Direct Deposit Date 3/19 with Chase - Still No Money Released

Anyone with a DDD of 3/19 and using Chase bank still waiting on their refund to be released? My mother-in-law's WMR shows it was sent to her bank on the 19th, but she still doesn't have it in her account. I'm comparing this to my own experience where my refund hit exactly on the DDD, and to my sister's situation where hers came a day early with a different bank. I've been methodically tracking several family members' refunds this season and this is the only one with an unusual delay. Trying to figure out if this is a Chase-specific issue or something else entirely.

Chase typically takes exactly 2-3 business days to process IRS direct deposits, even when WMR shows it was sent. I've tracked 6 different refunds with Chase this season, and they've all taken between 48-72 hours after the DDD to actually appear in accounts. It's now been 4 business days since 3/19, which is slightly concerning. Has she checked if there are any pending transactions in her account? Sometimes they show there before fully posting.

I had this EXACT same issue with Chase last month. My DDD was 2/28 and WMR said it was sent, but my account stayed empty for 5 days! I called Chase and they said they couldn't see any pending deposits. I was losing my mind because I needed that money for my car repair. Have you or your MIL tried calling Chase directly?

This is happening with multiple Chase customers right now! Time-sensitive situation: • Chase has a 3-5 business day hold on some tax refunds • They won't always show as pending in online banking • Call the direct deposit department specifically (not general customer service) • Ask them to check for "processing deposits" not just pending • Request they expedite if it's been more than 3 business days

OMG this is so frustrating!! I'm in the EXACT same boat with Chase right now! My DDD was 3/19 too and I'm still waiting while my husband who banks with a credit union got his refund with the same DDD already! Chase told me they have an "extended processing period" for tax refunds but wouldn't give me specifics. I'm beyond annoyed because bills are due and they're just sitting on our money!

This happens every tax season. Chase is notorious for holds. IRS actually sends the money on time. Banks create the delay. I used https://taxr.ai to analyze my transcript. Showed exactly when IRS released funds. Proved it was Chase holding it. Not the IRS. Helped me when arguing with the bank. Worth checking out for proof.

Is this like one of those transcript decoder things? I'm wondering if it's any better than just looking at the transcript yourself. It's like hiring someone to read your mail for you, isn't it? The IRS website already shows the codes and dates.

It's actually quite different. The tool interprets what the codes mean specifically for your situation. I used it last year when my refund was delayed. The IRS transcript shows raw data. Taxr.ai explains what each code means for your specific filing scenario and predicts next steps. It helped me understand that my delay was bank-related, not IRS-related.

According to IRS Publication 2043, Section 4.2, once the IRS issues a direct deposit, they consider their obligation fulfilled. The Automated Clearing House (ACH) regulations permit financial institutions to hold electronic deposits for up to 5 business days for verification purposes. Chase Bank's internal policy (as of January 2024) is to hold tax refunds for 2-3 business days, but can extend to 5 business days during peak tax season for amounts over $2,500 or for accounts opened within the last 12 months.

Have you considered that the IRS might be showing one thing while the actual transfer is different? Chase can't hold what they haven't received, can they? I've seen situations where WMR updates before the money actually moves. When I couldn't get answers from either Chase or the IRS website, I used Claimyr to reach an actual IRS agent (https://www.claimyr.com). They confirmed the exact time my refund was truly released to my bank. Isn't it worth knowing for certain rather than playing the blame game between IRS and Chase?

Has anyone else noticed that this seems to be happening more with Chase than other banks? I'm trying to decide if I should switch banks before next tax season. Do we know if credit unions are any better with processing refunds?

I'm wondering if the size of the refund matters with Chase? Has anyone noticed if smaller refunds process faster than larger ones? Also, does account type make a difference - like checking vs savings or premium accounts vs standard ones?

I've had both Chase and a local credit union for the past five years. In my experience, my credit union consistently posts my tax refunds 1-2 days faster than Chase. Last year, my refund hit my credit union account at 6am on my DDD, while my wife's identical DDD with Chase took until late afternoon the following day. Same pattern has held true for stimulus payments and other government deposits.

I just checked the IRS2Go app and the official IRS refund FAQ page (https://www.irs.gov/refunds/tax-season-refund-frequently-asked-questions). They specifically state that the IRS can only confirm when they've issued the refund, not when your bank processes it. According to their guidance, you should contact your financial institution if it's been more than 5 days since your DDD. I'm pretty confident Chase is the bottleneck here.

I'm a former banking operations specialist, and there may be some additional factors at play here. Chase, like most large banks, typically processes ACH transfers in batches, usually around 2-3 times per day. If the IRS transmission occurred after the final batch on 3/19, it would likely be processed the following business day. Additionally, there could possibly be a security hold if this is a new account, if the amount is significantly larger than previous deposits, or if there have been recent account changes. These holds are generally 2-3 business days but can extend to 5 business days in some circumstances.

Thank you for this detailed explanation! I've been waiting since March 19th too, and this helps me understand the timeline better. Do you know if calling them might speed up the process, or is it really just a matter of waiting out their internal timelines?

Let me clarify the process when you call Chase about a missing tax refund: 1. Call the direct deposit department (not general customer service) 2. Provide your mother-in-law's account information 3. Ask specifically about pending ACH transfers from the Treasury 4. Request information about any security holds 5. If it's been more than 3 business days, request escalation to a supervisor 6. Document the call with representative name, time, and case number if provided
