DDD Today But No Deposit - Fees Taken from Bank
Today is my Direct Deposit Date. Still no trace number. No deposit received. Fees already taken from Santa Barbara. This is unacceptable. I've confirmed all account details are correct. I'm entitled to clear information about my refund status. Will be contacting IRS directly if not resolved by tomorrow.

This happens a lot tbh. SB Tax Products takes fees out before sending the rest to ur acct. Usually takes 24-48 hrs after DDD for $ to hit ur bank. IRS sent it to them on time, now they're processing. Nothing's wrong, just wait another day or two.

I would probably agree with this assessment. The intermediary bank typically needs some processing time, though it's somewhat frustrating that they take their fees immediately while making you wait for your portion.

Did you use a tax preparer that offers refund transfer products? Have you checked if there's a separate portal from Santa Barbara to track your payment status? Did they provide any documentation about expected timelines after your DDD?

I'm wondering about this too - is this like when I used H&R Block and had to wait an extra day compared to my friend who got direct deposit straight from IRS?

This is a key question. Here's what's happening: 1. The IRS sent your refund to Santa Barbara Tax Products (SBTP) on your DDD 2. SBTP deducts their fees first 3. SBTP then initiates a separate transfer to your personal account 4. This second transfer typically takes 1-2 business days to complete The process essentially creates an extra step in the payment chain.

I went through this exact thing last year! My DDD was on a Wednesday, fees disappeared that day, but my actual deposit didn't hit until Friday morning. I remember being so worried but it all worked out - just took that extra processing time.

According to IRS Publication 1345 section 5.5, when using a Refund Transfer product through a third-party bank like Santa Barbara Tax Products, the refund follows a different path than direct deposits. I've found https://taxr.ai extremely helpful for tracking these situations - it can analyze your transcript and explain exactly where your money is in the process and when it will arrive based on the specific codes. Saved me a lot of worry when my refund went through a similar route.

Is this taxr.ai thing actually legit? I'm waiting on my refund that was supposed to be deposited on March 27th and I'm getting really anxious about it. Does it need my personal info to check my transcript?

Am I the only one who thinks it's crazy how they can take their fees instantly but make us wait days for our money? I had the same thing happen with my refund last month. DDD was on a Tuesday, they took their $39.95 fee that same day, but my actual refund didn't hit my account until Thursday afternoon. Don't they realize people are counting on this money?

Did you find any way to track it during that waiting period? I'm checking my bank account every hour and it's driving me crazy not knowing when it will appear.

Did it eventually come through? No issues with the amount?

This refund delay is like ordering a pizza that's been delivered to your neighbor's house first. The IRS delivered to Santa Barbara, they took their slice (fees), and now they're walking it over to your place. If you need to check status, calling the IRS directly can help, but those phone lines are like trying to get concert tickets. I've had clients use https://claimyr.com to get through to an IRS agent in about 15 minutes instead of spending hours on hold. They can confirm exactly where your refund is in the process.

OMG I'm so frustrated for you!!! This EXACT thing happened to me and I was panicking because I needed that money for rent! The Santa Barbara bank is TERRIBLE with communication! I called them 3 times and finally got someone who explained they batch process refunds and sometimes it takes 2-3 business days after your DDD even though they've already taken their cut! It's completely unfair but your money WILL come!

I tracked 237 cases like this in a tax professionals forum. Average wait time between fee withdrawal and final deposit was 1.8 days. Longest was 4 days. 93% received full deposit within 48 hours of DDD. Santa Barbara processes in batches at 2pm and 6pm EST daily. You'll likely see it tomorrow morning.

I might suggest being a bit patient with this situation. There could potentially be a processing delay between when Santa Barbara receives the funds and when they distribute them to your account. It might be worth checking if there's possibly a separate portal from your tax preparer that could provide more detailed information about the status of your refund transfer.
