DDD 2/26 - SBTPG Trace Number But No Deposit (Capital One)
DDD 2/26 (Direct Deposit Date February 26) Capital One account Filed via TurboTax with fees deducted from refund I have a SBTPG trace number with Santa Barbara Tax Products Group Anyone else experiencing this delay???? No deposit has hit my account yet despite having a confirmed DDD. Starting to get concerned about cash flow for upcoming quarterly estimated payments.

This is unfortunately a common occurrence with refunds routed through SBTPG. Per IRS Publication 1345 section 5.4, when you elect to have tax preparation fees deducted from your refund, your money must pass through the third-party processor (SBTPG) before reaching your bank account. While the IRS may show a DDD of 2/26, that only indicates when they released the funds to SBTPG, not when SBTPG will release to your bank. I'm shocked at how unnecessarily complicated this makes the process!

SBTPG held my refund for 3 days last year. Called them directly. They confirmed receipt from IRS but said they have a holding period for "verification." Asked for supervisor. Got funds released same day.

Thank you for explaining this so clearly! I've been wondering why this happens. Makes sense now: ā¢ IRS sends to SBTPG first ā¢ SBTPG takes their cut ā¢ SBTPG then forwards remainder ā¢ Extra processing time gets added I'll be paying fees upfront next year to avoid this headache.

I went through this exact situation last year. Here's what you need to do: 1. First, check your SBTPG account online to confirm they received it 2. If it shows received but not disbursed, you need to contact them 3. Their customer service is notoriously difficult to reach 4. I wasted two full days trying to get through 5. Finally used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) to connect with an agent in about 15 minutes 6. Once I got someone on the phone, they released my funds that same day The practical solution is to use a service that gets you through the phone maze rather than wasting hours on hold.

Does this Claimyr thing actually work though? How do they get you through faster than just calling directly? Seems like they'd just be doing the same thing I could do myself, no?

I NEED THIS RIGHT NOW!! Been trying to reach SBTPG for THREE DAYS!! They keep disconnecting after 45 minutes on hold! My mortgage payment is due TOMORROW and I'm counting on this refund! Did they really get you through in 15 minutes?!

It works. Used it yesterday. Got through in 17 minutes. Worth every penny. Normal wait was 2+ hours.

Looking at your situation compared to standard processing timelines, I'd note a few things: 1) Capital One specifically tends to post deposits at different times than other banks. Unlike credit unions that often post as soon as they receive the ACH notification, Capital One typically processes incoming deposits in batches at set times during the business day. 2) When comparing SBTPG processing to direct IRS deposits, there's typically a 1-3 business day delay. Since your DDD was 2/26 and today is likely 2/28 or 3/1, you're still within that window. 3) Having a trace number is actually a positive sign - it means the transaction is in process rather than rejected.

I've seen this with Capital One before. They seem to batch their ACH deposits around 10am and 3pm EST in my experience. Has anyone else noticed this pattern with them? I'm curious if this is consistent.

This is really helpful, thanks. I've been stressing about my refund too, but this puts things in perspective. Guess I need to be more patient with the whole SBTPG process.

I'm the type who tracks EVERYTHING during tax season (my spouse thinks I'm crazy š). One thing that helped me was using taxr.ai to analyze my transcript codes. I could see exactly where my refund was in the process and when SBTPG received it. The site explained that the code TC846 means the IRS released the funds, but doesn't guarantee when your bank will post it. For TurboTax/SBTPG refunds specifically, I've found there's almost always a 2-3 day gap between the DDD and actual deposit. I'm confident yours will show up by tomorrow!

I'm not entirely convinced this is normal. As of February 29th, most DDD 2/26 refunds should have processed through SBTPG already. Back on January 17th when filing season opened, SBTPG was processing within 24 hours. Now they seem to be taking longer. I wonder if there's something else going on with your specific refund that might need attention rather than just waiting.

Should I be contacting SBTPG directly at this point? Or is there a specific timeframe I should wait before escalating?

It's like your money is stuck in a traffic jam on the financial highway! I'm in the same boat with a 2/26 DDD, SBTPG, and Capital One. Called SBTPG yesterday and they confirmed they received it but said there's a "standard processing period" before they send it to my bank. The representative assured me this is normal and not something to worry about. Think of it like ordering something online - the tracking says "shipped" but it still takes time to reach your doorstep.

You might want to try checking your SBTPG account directly if you haven't already. In my experience, sometimes the funds are actually released but there's a delay in the bank posting it. I would suggest possibly calling Capital One as well, as they might be able to see pending deposits that aren't visible to you yet. I believe most banks typically process ACH transfers within 1-3 business days, so you're likely still within the normal timeframe.
