DDD 2/24 - SBTPG Funded - When Does Trace Number Usually Appear?
My Direct Deposit Date is 2/24. Santa Barbara Tax Products Group (SBTPG) shows as funded. When does a trace number typically show up? In previous years, I've seen it appear 1-2 days before the deposit, but this time it seems different. I'm tracking this closely since I need to coordinate some medical payments for my mother once the funds clear. Anyone else in a similar situation this filing season?

Usually trace #s show up within 24hrs of SBTPG funding. Last yr mine showed up same day, but I've seen ppl wait up to 48hrs. Ur bank might already have it processing even if u can't see it yet. Most banks drop $ early AM on DDD, so ur prob fine for tmrw. Some credit unions even release a day early!

Oh thank goodness someone who understands this! Been refreshing my bank app like a crazy person all day. This is the first time I've used a tax preparer that uses SBTPG and I was starting to worry something was wrong 😅

It's like watching a package delivery but with no tracking updates. You know it's coming but you're still staring out the window every 5 minutes! What happens if the trace number never shows up though? Is that a sign something got rejected?

Did you pay your tax prep fees out of your refund? I'm just wondering because that can sometimes affect how SBTPG processes things! I'm in the EXACT same boat and I'm so nervous about getting my money on time!

This is an important question. When you have fees taken out of your refund, SBTPG has to process that transaction before forwarding the remainder to your bank. I've seen this add 12-24 hours to the timeline. They're essentially acting as a middleman between the IRS and your bank account.

Has anyone called SBTPG directly about this? Their customer service number should be on your tax prep documents. I need to know if there's any way to expedite this process since I have bills due on the 28th!

Wait, so February 24th is just when the IRS sends it to SBTPG? Then SBTPG has to process it and THEN send it to our banks? I filed on January 29th and I'm just now learning this extra step exists???

Yes, I did have my fees taken out of my refund. Based on my past experience, SBTPG usually processes within 24 hours of receiving funds from the IRS. Last year it took about 36 hours from SBTPG showing funded to the money appearing in my account. I'm hoping for similar timing this year since I need to coordinate some medical appointments for my mother.

Have you perhaps checked with your bank to see if they have any pending deposits? Sometimes they can see incoming ACH transfers before they're fully processed, which might give you a better timeline estimate.

If you're concerned about the timing and need to know exactly when your money will arrive, you might want to call the IRS directly to confirm everything is on track. Last year I spent 3 hours on hold trying to get answers. This year I used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) and got through to an agent in about 15 minutes who confirmed my exact deposit timeline. Saved me a ton of stress when coordinating payments.

Are you seeing the "funded" status on the SBTPG website or through your tax preparer's portal? Sometimes they show different information and update at different times.

Tax professional here. The ACH trace number typically appears in the SBTPG system 12-24 hours after funding, but it's important to understand that this is just an internal reference. Most banks receive the ACH transfer overnight and process deposits in their morning batch cycle (typically 2-6am). If SBTPG shows funded today, you're almost certainly going to see the deposit tomorrow morning. The trace number itself is mostly useful for troubleshooting if something goes wrong, but its absence doesn't indicate a problem with your refund.
