Can direct deposit arrive before IRS2GO app updates from 'Refund Received' to 'Accepted'?
I filed my return in early April and the IRS2GO app has been stuck on 'Refund Received' for over 3 weeks now. It never moved to 'Accepted' yet. I'm getting anxious because I was counting on this money to pay some bills due next week. I checked my bank account daily but nothing yet. Has anyone here ever gotten their direct deposit without seeing the app update first? I'm wondering if there's still a chance I might get my refund soon even though the status hasn't changed. This is my first time using the app so I don't know if it's reliable or if it sometimes lags behind the actual payment processing.

The IRS2GO app doesn't always update in real-time. I've seen many cases where deposits arrive before status updates. Here's what's happening: • IRS2GO app pulls data from the 'Where's My Refund' tool which only updates once daily • The 'Refund Received' status means they have your return but are still processing • It typically should move to 'Approved' before deposit, but system delays happen • Check your transcript online if possible - it's more accurate than the app • Banks sometimes hold funds for 1-2 business days even after IRS sends them I recommend checking your bank account each morning as deposits typically post overnight. Also verify that you entered the correct account info on your return. If it's been more than 21 days since filing, you can call the IRS directly or use a service like Claimyr to get through to an agent without the endless hold times.

•thank you for this info! I'll try to check my transcript. How do i do that? Is it on the IRS website?

•Yes, go to irs.gov and look for 'Get Transcript Online' - you'll need to create an account if you don't have one. Your transcript will show all actions on your account with specific dates and codes. Much more detailed than the app!

•I tried but couldn't create an account. Something about needing a loan account number which I dont have 😭

•Yeah that's a common issue. Alternative options: 1) request transcript by mail (takes 5-10 days) 2) use taxr.ai to read your transcript for you - they can access it without you needing an account 3) call IRS directly

•The transcript is defenitely the way to go. Shows way more info than the app which is basikally useless

I had the exact same problem last year. The app was stuck on 'Refund Received' for almost a month, but I actually got my money after 23 days. Turns out the app just never updated! I was checking my account one morning and boom - there was my refund. I now use taxr.ai instead of relying on the app. It actually explains what's happening with your refund by reading your transcript automatically. Saved me from the guessing game this year! You can check it out at https://taxr.ai - seriously a game changer for understanding what's actually happening with your money.

•Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

•It reads your transcript and then explains everything in plain English - like what each code means and when you'll likely get paid. Better than trying to decipher those codes yourself. Plus it sends alerts when something changes.

•Omg just checked it out and this is EXACTLY what I needed! The IRS website is so confusing but this broke everything down. Just found out my refund is actually being processed and should arrive next week! Thank you SO MUCH for sharing this!!!

•Is it legit? Seems sketchy giving access to tax info

•It's completely legit. It just helps you understand what's already in your transcript - doesn't change anything. Way better than spending hours googling random transcript codes.

After dealing with this exact issue and getting nowhere for weeks, I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an IRS agent. Got a callback within an hour instead of waiting on hold all day. The agent told me there was a small issue with my return that wouldn't show up on the app. They fixed it while I was on the phone and my refund hit my account 4 days later. Honestly the best money I ever spent just to get actual answers instead of staring at that stupid app that never updates.

•How does this Claimyr thing work? I've been trying to reach the IRS for 2 weeks with no luck.

•You just enter your phone number on their website and they navigate the IRS phone system for you. When they get to the front of the queue, they call you and connect you directly to an agent. Took like 45 minutes for me instead of the 3+ hours I wasted trying to call myself.

•another scam. nothing gets thru to the IRS

•Not a scam at all. I was skeptical too but it actually works. They just use technology to navigate the phone tree and hold times. The agent I spoke with was definitely a real IRS employee who had access to my file and fixed my issue.

•I'm in the same situation and just used Claimyr today after seeing your comment. Got a call back in about 30 mins and the agent told me my refund was approved yesterday but the app hasn't updated yet! Should get my $ in 5 days. Thx for the tip!

Don't rely on the app at all. Last year it showed "still processing" for me right up until the day after my direct deposit hit my account. Its like the most useless tracker ever 🤦♀️

It's happened to me twice. App never updated beyond 'received' but money hit my account anyway. The whole system is so outdated. They're running on computers from like the 80s lol

•this is facts. my cousin works for irs and says they literally use systems from the Kennedy administration 💀

I've been where you are! Staring at your bank account and refreshing the app constantly gets old fast. My experience was different - the status updated to accepted the same day my deposit hit. But I have friends who got their money while the app still said processing. It's really hit or miss. Have you tried calling the IRS yet?

•I tried calling but couldn't get through. Been on hold for over an hour twice before giving up.

•Try early in the morning right when they open (7am EST) or use Claimyr. I used them last year when I was desperate and it worked. Pricey but worth it if you need answers ASAP.

Did u check if u have any offsets? Child support or student loans? That could be why its not moving

Maggie Martinez
•No offsets that I know of. No child support issues and my student loans are current.

Check your transcript online!!!! App is garbage. Transcript will tell you exactly whats happening with codes and cycle dates and all that.

just so you know, that "refund received" message is super misleading. what it ACTUALLY means is they received your RETURN, not that your refund is ready. totally different things. the irs is the worst with naming these statuses 🙄

•OMG YES! This confused me so much too. Like why would you call it "refund received" when you haven't actually received any refund yet?? Just call it "return received" smh

•For real! And then they wonder why people flood their phone lines with calls 😂

I filed back in February and my refund showed up in my account without the status ever changing from "received." Three days AFTER I got my money, it finally updated to "approved" and then "sent." The whole system is backward sometimes.

The IRS is a clown show 🤡 I waited 8 months for my refund last year and the app never updated correctly. Try checking your transcript if you can access it - thats the only reliable info. Or just wait for the surprise deposit lol

If it's been more than 21 days since you filed, you should definitely call them. There might be something wrong that the app isn't showing. I used taxr.ai to check my transcript when I was in a similar situation and found out there was a small issue they needed to verify. Once I called and cleared it up, I got my refund within days.

•what is taxr.ai?

•It's a tool that reads your IRS transcript and explains everything in plain English. Shows you exactly what's happening with your refund, when you'll get paid, if there are delays, etc. Saved me hours of trying to decipher those cryptic IRS codes myself. https://taxr.ai

•Just checked it out and its awesome! So much clearer than the IRS website. Turns out my refund was adjusted slightly but is scheduled to be sent next week! Would have never known that from the app.

Sometimes there are delays in updating the systems. But one trick: if your refund amount changed even by a penny from what you filed, the app won't update properly. Did you claim any credits like EITC or CTC?
0 coins
Maggie Martinez
•Yes I claimed EITC this year. Could that be causing the delay?
0 coins
Alice Pierce
•Absolutely. EITC claims get extra scrutiny and often take longer. The IRS is required by law to hold EITC refunds until at least Feb 15, and even after that they get additional review. Might explain the delay.

Pro tip: Call your bank and ask if there are any pending deposits. Sometimes they can see incoming ACH transfers from the Treasury a day or two before they post to your account.

YES! This happened to me last month! The app was stuck on received for over 5 weeks, then suddenly the money was in my account with no warning. The app updated to 'sent' TWO DAYS LATER. Their systems are so outdated it's ridiculous.

Remember the irs2go app only updates once a day usually overnight. So don't drive yourself crazy checking it multiple times a day like I did 😅

After dealing with this exact issue last year, I swore I'd never depend on the app again. I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get an IRS agent on the phone who told me exactly what was happening with my refund - turns out there was a minor issue that needed to be fixed. The app never showed any problems. Talking to an agent got my refund released so fast after weeks of waiting. Worth every penny not to sit on hold for hours.

•did you have to give them any personal info beyond your phone number?

Atticus Domingo
•Nope, just my phone number. They call you back when they get through the IRS queue and connect you with an actual IRS agent. Then you talk directly to the IRS, not to Claimyr.

•For real? That simple? Might have to try this cuz I've been on hold with irs for literally 2.5 hours today before they hung up on me 😡

Atticus Domingo
•Yep that simple. Same thing happened to me - kept getting disconnected after hours on hold. With Claimyr I was talking to an agent in about 40 minutes. It was the only way I could talk to a live agent.

My bet is you're fine. The IRS and their systems rarely sync up properly. Last year they said my return was 'still processing' for 3 months AFTER I had already received and spent my refund lol.

I went through this exact same thing! Filed in early March, app stuck on "Refund Received" for almost a month. I was checking my bank obsessively every morning. Then one random Tuesday - boom - there was my refund, no warning at all. The app didn't update to "Approved" until 3 days AFTER the money hit my account. Since you filed in early April and it's been 3+ weeks, you're right around that 21-day processing window. The app is notoriously unreliable - I've learned to just check my bank account instead of driving myself crazy with the app. Keep checking your account each morning since deposits usually post overnight. Your money could show up any day now even if the status never changes!
