IRS2Go says refund sent February 26 but nothing in account by March 17 - should I be concerned?

My dad prepared our tax return this year and we received notification that our refund was approved. I've been checking the IRS2Go app regularly and it says: "Your tax refund is scheduled to be sent to your bank by February 27, 2025. If your refund is not credited to your account by March 4, 2025, check with your bank to see if it has been received." The app shows all three status boxes checked: "Return Received," "Refund Approved," and "Refund Sent." There's also a note that says "Please Note: For refund information, please continue to check here, or visit IRS.gov/Refunds. Updates to refund status are made no more than once a day." Today is March 17 and there's nothing pending in our account yet. No deposit, no pending transactions, nothing. It's been almost three weeks since the IRS claimed they sent the refund to our bank. The app said we should check with our bank if it wasn't credited by March 4, but when I called my bank, they have no record of any pending or rejected deposits from the IRS. Has anyone else experienced this delay? Should we be concerned or is this normal? When can we realistically expect to see the money? Should I contact the IRS directly at this point or keep waiting? I'm getting anxious because we were counting on this refund for some important expenses.

Mateo Martinez

First, don't panic. This is actually quite normal. The IRS2Go app gives you an estimated deposit date, but there are several factors to consider: 1. The date they provide is when the IRS initiates the transfer, not necessarily when it will hit your account 2. Bank processing times vary - some banks hold funds for 1-3 business days before making them available 3. If March 15 was a weekend day, processing might not start until the next business day 4. The March 20 date they give is your "worry date" - you don't need to be concerned until after that date I'd recommend waiting until March 20 passes before taking any action. If nothing shows up by then, contact your bank first to check if they've received but not posted the deposit. Only after confirming with your bank would I recommend contacting the IRS. Also, checking your transcript on the IRS website might give you more detailed information about your refund status than the app provides. You can access this at irs.gov (create an account if you don't have one).

Thank you for the explanation! March 15 was actually a Saturday so that makes sense why it might be delayed. I'll wait until the 20th before i start calling around.

I had the exact same issue last year! Scheduled for a Friday, didn't show up until Tuesday. My bank told me they don't process ACH deposits over the weekend.

Yep this is solid advice. The IRS doesn't actually lie about the dates, but banks def add their own processing time on top and that's not the IRS's fault.

it's worth mentioning that checking your transcript is a pain in the butt tho. the irs website is from like 1995 lol. I use taxr.ai now because it translates all those confusing codes into english. saved me hours of googling

Whats taxr.ai? Never heard of it before

It's this tool that reads all those confusing IRS transcripts and explains everything in plain english. So instead of seeing like "971 CP05 570 BLAH BLAH" it tells you exactly what's happening with your refund. I was in the same situation and it showed me my refund was actually just delayed due to verification. You can check it out at https://taxr.ai

Ditto on the transcript thing. I stared at mine for an hour last week and had NO idea what I was looking at 🤦‍♀️

If you're getting anxious about your refund and want a clearer picture of what's happening, I highly recommend checking out taxr.ai! I was in a similar situation with my refund delay and instead of trying to decipher those cryptic transcript codes myself, I used this tool and it explained everything. Turns out I had a simple verification delay that wasn't obvious from the IRS2Go app info. The tool translated all the tax jargon into plain English and gave me a timeline estimate that was spot on. So much better than trying to be a detective piecing together information from random forums! Here's the link if you want to check it out: https://taxr.ai

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

It does way more than just read transcripts. It actually analyzes all your tax data and explains what's happening with your return in simple terms. It tells you WHY your refund is delayed, WHEN you'll likely get it, and exactly what's happening behind the scenes. I was amazed at how detailed the explanation was. Seriously saved me hours of stress and confusion!

It's not free but worth every penny given the time it saves and the clarity it provides. No more guessing games with your refund status!

I just tried taxr.ai and WOW. WHY isn't everyone using this?! The IRS had flagged my return for review but the app never showed that. This tool showed me exactly what was happening and gave me a new estimated date that was much more accurate. THANK YOU for recommending this - would have been lost without it!

After weeks of getting nowhere with my refund that was stuck in limbo, I found a way to actually speak with an IRS agent using claimyr.com. I was in the same boat - app showed one date but nothing was happening. Called the regular IRS number over 20 times with no luck. The calling service got me connected to a real person who explained my refund was held up due to a verification issue that wasn't showing on the app. Talking to a real agent got everything resolved within days and my deposit finally came through. It was honestly the only way I could get actual answers instead of generic automated messages. If you're really worried, I'd recommend going this route.

The service basically keeps calling for you and navigating the IRS phone tree until they reach an agent, then they call you and connect you. Saved me hours of redial hell. Best money I've spent all year considering I was waiting on a $3k refund that was just sitting there.

Totally get the skepticism, I felt the same way. But after trying to call the IRS myself 20+ times with no luck, I was desperate. It actually worked exactly as promised - had an agent on the phone within a couple hours. My refund that had been stuck for weeks suddenly processed 2 days later.

Bruh the IRS is a joke. I got the EXACT same message, waited a full week past their "date" and still nothing. When I finally got thru to someone they told me "oh we sent it to the wrong account." How does that even happen??? Check your transcript, not the app. The app is useless.

Omg that's terrifying. How do I check my transcript? Do I need to call?

Go to irs.gov and create an account if you dont have one. Then you can view your transcript online. Warning tho: its confusing AF to read those transcripts. Like reading hieroglyphics 💀

^^^^^ THIS. My refund went to someone else's account last year. Took 9 weeks to get it straightened out. The IRS is completely broken.

You're fine, usually take a few days after the scheduled date. The banking system is slow af especially if it falls on a weekend. I wouldn't worry until end of the week.

Could be your bank. Mine always holds IRS deposits for 2-3 business days before releasing them even though they show as pending. Super annoying but apparently "standard procedure" 🙄

I'm with Chase. They claim it's for "security" but I think they just want to hold my money as long as possible 🤬

Check your transcript at irs.gov - the app is notoriously unreliable. My transcript showed my refund was actually on hold for review even while the app said it was approved and on the way. Your transcript will have actual cycle codes that tell you what's really happening.

The transcript is impossible to read without a decoder ring tho lol. I spent hours trying to figure out what all those codes meant.

I work at a bank (not saying which one). Here's what you need to know: When the IRS initiates an ACH payment, it doesn't instantly appear in your account. There's processing time on both the sender and receiver end. Plus, if the scheduled date falls on a weekend or holiday, it rolls to the next business day. Many banks also place holds on government payments (yes, even tax refunds). I'd wait until at least 3 business days after your scheduled date before getting worried.

Thanks for the insider info! Do banks actually get to see the pending deposit before they make it available to customers?

0 coins

-

15d

Connor Gallagher

Yes, we actually do see it in our systems before it's released to customers. Some banks will show it as pending, others won't show anything until the funds are fully available. Depends on the bank's policies and their software capabilities.

if ur refund was over 5k theres additional verification that happens sometimes. happened to me last year. Took 2 extra weeks beyond the date in the app.

Did your refund have any tax credits like EIC or Child Tax Credit? Those always take longer in my experience. My basic refund comes quickly but the year I claimed EIC it took forever.

0 coins

-

Nia Wilson

Yes we have both EIC and Child Tax Credit this year. Maybe that's why it's taking longer.

0 coins

-

15d

Keisha Taylor

Mystery solved then. The IRS scrutinizes returns with credits much more carefully. The law actually requires them to hold EIC refunds until at least mid-February, and even after that they move slower.

Same exact thing happened to me - turns out my bank (BoA) holds tax refunds for 2 business days before posting them to my account for "security reasons". Maybe call your bank and ask if they have a policy like this? Super annoying.

I strongly recommend calling the IRS directly. I was in the same situation - app said one thing, reality was different. After hours of trying to get through the normal channels with no luck, I used claimyr.com to get connected to an agent. Found out my refund had been flagged for additional review due to a mismatch that didn't show on the app at all. The agent fixed it right there on the phone and my refund showed up 3 days later. Talking to an actual person made all the difference.

Yes it does. I was super skeptical but desperate after trying to call myself for weeks. They actually got me through to a real person within a couple hours. Considering I was waiting on a $4k refund, it was worth every penny to get it resolved quickly.
