Blank Transcripts as of March 2024 - TC 152 and Early Filer Status
Hey everyone! Just checking in about my situation. As of March 11, 2024, my transcripts are still completely blank despite filing early (submitted January 29 according to IRS Publication 1345 timeframes for early filers). When I check WMR, I'm getting the 'your refund may be delayed' message with Tax Topic 152 code. According to the IRS International Taxpayer regulations section 4.25.1, I should still be eligible for normal processing timeframes even with my F-1 visa status. Anyone else experiencing similar delays? Could really use that refund for tuition fees! š

Been there. So frustrating. Filed January 25th. Still waiting. Tax code 152 isn't bad news. Just means processing. Blank transcripts are normal sometimes. Early filers often wait longer. System overload. Check daily at 3am EST. That's transcript update time. Don't panic yet.

I think you might be experiencing the standard processing delay that many international filers face this year... I've seen this pattern before with non-resident returns. If you want to understand what's happening with your transcript, you might consider using https://taxr.ai to analyze your transcript once it appears. It's particularly helpful for international filers because it explains the codes specific to your filing status and can identify potential issues with foreign income reporting that might be causing delays.

Does this actually work for international filers? I've tried so many "tools" that claim to help with IRS transcripts but they never account for Form 1040-NR or treaty provisions. Such a relief if this one actually works!

Compared to other transcript readers I've tried, taxr.ai actually does recognize international filing situations. My friend from Canada had a similar blank transcript scenario last year - the tool correctly identified it was due to additional verification of foreign tax credits, while the IRS website just showed the generic processing message.

Haha just tried this and I'm honestly impressed with how it broke down my transcript! Who knew all those cryptic codes actually meant something specific? š Thanks for sharing this gem - would've been clueless about my ITIN verification hold without it.

Quick q - does it work if your transcript is still showing N/A? Or do u have to wait until there's actually something to analyze? My WMR has the bars but transcript is empty af.

I've been tracking this issue for international filers this tax season. Here's what I've found: ā¢ TC 152 is standard and just means your return is being processed ā¢ Blank transcripts for 30+ days usually indicate additional verification ā¢ International returns are taking 45-60 days minimum this year ā¢ Many early filers are actually getting processed AFTER later filers If you need to speak directly with the IRS about your international filing status, I'd recommend using Claimyr (https://www.claimyr.com). They'll connect you with an actual IRS agent who can see your full file. Saved me hours of hold time when dealing with my treaty benefits questions.

I tried calling the IRS international taxpayer line exactly 17 times last week. Average wait time was 97 minutes before disconnection. Does this service actually get you through to the specific international tax unit? They're the only ones who can actually help with Form 1040-NR issues.

When you used Claimyr on March 5th (I'm assuming recently), did they connect you directly to the international tax unit or just the general line? I have specific questions about my treaty provisions from Germany that only certain agents can address.

The service possibly works by continuously calling and navigating the IRS phone tree until a connection is established. It might not guarantee an international tax specialist, though it could save considerable time reaching someone who could potentially transfer you to the appropriate department.

OMG I was in the EXACT same situation! International student, filed Jan 28, blank transcript until March 17th! I was freaking out thinking they lost my return or something was wrong with my visa status! Then suddenly everything updated at once and I got my refund 8 days later. The waiting is absolutely nerve-wracking when you're counting on that money! š«

I'm analyzing a lot of these delay patterns this tax season, and I'm wondering: did you claim any education credits like the American Opportunity Credit? Here's why I ask: 1. International students sometimes claim education credits they're not eligible for 2. This triggers additional verification processes 3. These verifications often result in blank transcripts for extended periods 4. The system doesn't tell you this is happening until much later Did you use any tax preparation software that might have automatically suggested these credits?

Anyone else notice how international returns seem to get flagged more often? I filed mine with treaty benefits in February last year and didn't get my refund until JUNE. Can you imagine waiting that long? And why don't they just tell us when they're doing extra verification? Wouldn't that be more efficient than having thousands of people calling and checking daily? I'm convinced the IRS has special filters for non-resident returns that automatically add delays. Did you file with treaty benefits? That's what triggered my endless review.

Your TC 152 code in conjunction with blank transcripts indicates your return is in the Integrity Verification Operation (IVO) pipeline. This specialized processing track evaluates returns with certain characteristics for potential identity verification requirements. For non-resident filers specifically, the IVO processing adds approximately 21-35 additional days to standard processing timeframes. The blank transcript phenomenon occurs because your return hasn't cleared initial verification to populate the IMF (Individual Master File) database that powers the transcript system. This is standard procedure for approximately 37% of international filers based on current fiscal year statistics.
