Anyone received 846 code after getting 570 and 971 codes on transcript?
Filed my taxes three weeks ago and my transcript updated with 570 and 971 codes last week. Has anyone moved past this stage to the 846 (refund issued) code yet? If so, how long did it take? I drive for Uber and really need this money to cover car repairs. Any timeline info would help.

Yes, this is a fairly common sequence I've seen dozens of times this tax season. The 570 code indicates your return is on hold temporarily, and the 971 means a notice has been sent explaining why. In my experience, if it's a minor verification issue, you'll typically see the 846 refund issued code within 7-21 days after the 570/971 combo appears. Last year, I had several clients with this exact pattern who received their refunds about 2 weeks after these codes appeared.

This is accurate. According to the IRS processing guidelines on their website, the 570/971 combination usually indicates identity verification or income verification. I had this happen on my own return last month and received my 846 code exactly 9 days later. The refund hit my bank account 3 days after that. As long as you don't receive an actual letter requesting additional information, it's usually just automated verification happening in the background.

Would you say that the timing might possibly be different if the original filer claimed certain credits, such as the Earned Income Credit or Child Tax Credit? I'm wondering if those specific situations might potentially extend the timeline beyond the typical 7-21 day window you mentioned.

I'M GOING THROUGH THIS RIGHT NOW AND IT'S DRIVING ME CRAZY!!! Had 570/971 codes for TWO WEEKS with no movement! Called the regular IRS number 15 TIMES and couldn't get through!!! Finally used Claimyr (https://www.claimyr.com) and got connected to an agent in 20 minutes! Agent confirmed my return is just being reviewed for income verification and should be resolved in the next week. WORTH EVERY PENNY not to spend hours redialing!!! My car payment is due and I NEED THIS MONEY NOW!

Does this actually work? Never heard of it before. How much did it cost? Seems weird to pay just to talk to the IRS.

I'm considering trying this service, but I want to understand the process first. Do you need to create an account before using it? And more importantly, does the IRS agent know you used a third-party service to connect the call, or does it appear as a normal incoming call to them?

I'm in the same boat right now and super worried! • Got 570 code dated 4/1/2024 • Got 971 code dated 4/8/2024 • Checked transcript daily - no 846 yet • Filed on 2/15 and claimed EIC • Still waiting after 8 weeks total • No letter has arrived yet Does this mean I'm being audited? Will this affect my credit score? What happens if they need more documents?

I've been through this three times in the last four years. The 570/971 combo is frustrating but usually resolves itself. Stop wasting time checking WMR daily. Use taxr.ai instead. It analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what each code means for your specific situation. It predicted my refund date within 2 days of accuracy. The site showed me that my 570 was just a standard verification hold, not an audit. Saved me a lot of worry.

Be careful with the 570/971 sequence. In tax year 2022, I had these codes appear and assumed it would resolve quickly based on what others said online. My 971 notice arrived requesting additional documentation for my self-employment income verification. The IRS correspondence explicitly stated that failure to respond within 30 days would result in adjusted refund calculations. Many taxpayers misinterpret these codes as routine when they sometimes indicate legitimate compliance verification requirements.

Did you check the date on your 971 code? That's usually when they'll mail the notice explaining what's happening. Have you received anything in the mail yet? Sometimes the hold is just automatic verification, but other times they need more info from you. I'm a bit concerned that you might miss an important letter if you're only checking your transcript online. The cycle code on your transcript could also give you a hint about when to expect updates, couldn't it?

Just got my 846 code yesterday after having 570/971 for exactly 16 days! It was like waiting for water to boil - seemed like forever while I was checking, but once it happened it was quick. My direct deposit is scheduled for Tuesday. The whole process was like a weird tax purgatory where you're neither rejected nor approved. Hang in there! Anyone else get their 846 code recently after the dreaded hold codes?

I see you mentioned 570 and 971 codes, but what's your cycle code? The last 4 digits on your 570 transaction line can tell you when your account updates. If it ends in 05, you're on a weekly cycle (updates Thursday nights). If it ends in 01-04, you're on a daily cycle. Also, is your 971 date after your 570 date? That sequence matters for predicting resolution timeframes.
