Can I get my refund without 846 code showing on transcript?

Filed my taxes about 3 weeks ago and still no refund. I keep checking my transcripts but no 846 code yet. Someone told me they got their refund before their transcript updated. Is this even possible? Getting antsy cause I really need this money.

Tax professional here - No, you cannot receive your refund before the 846 code appears. Code 846 specifically indicates that your refund has been issued. Without this code, the IRS hasn't released your funds yet. Keep monitoring your transcript for this update.

how long does it usually take to get the 846 code? been waiting 2 months now 😩

It varies widely. Could be weeks or months depending on your situation. Any errors or verification needed will delay it.

Hey guys I was in the same boat last month. I found this tool called taxr.ai that actually explains exactly what's happening with your transcript and when you'll likely get paid. Its only $1 and totally worth it https://taxr.ai

I feel your pain! Been there myself and the waiting is brutal. Just to confirm what others said - you definitely won't get your refund before the 846 code shows up. That code literally means "refund issued" so it has to appear first. 3 weeks isn't too bad yet though - the IRS says to allow 21 days for e-filed returns. If you hit the 21 day mark and still nothing, then you can start digging deeper into what might be causing the delay. Hang in there!
