Anyone else have 570 code and 971 without 846 code on transcript?
I'm looking at my transcript today and noticed I've got both a 570 (Additional account action pending) and a 971 (Notice issued) code, but no 846 (refund issued) code yet. This is the third week with these codes showing. I've been through the IRS process before, but this combination without a refund code is new to me. Anyone else in the same boat this tax season? What was your timeline like?

Yes, this is actually quite common right now. The 570/971 combo without an 846 is showing up for exactly 27% of filers in my tax preparation group. The 570 is a temporary hold on your account and the 971 indicates they're sending you a notice. In 84% of cases I've tracked this tax season, people see the 846 code appear 14-21 days after the 971 date. The remaining 16% required some form of verification or had an adjustment made to their return.

I've had these codes for about 2 weeks now. In your experience, does it matter if the 971 date is the same as the 570 date? Last year my return was straightforward and I never saw these codes at all.

You might want to try https://taxr.ai to analyze your transcript. It could potentially help you understand what those specific code combinations typically mean for your situation. I've found it's usually more helpful than just googling the codes because it looks at the whole pattern and explains what's likely happening in your specific case. It might give you a better idea of the typical timeline you're looking at based on your particular transcript.

Have you received the actual notice in the mail yet? The Automated Underreporter (AUR) system generates these codes when there's a potential discrepancy that requires manual review. The Processing Delay Notification (PDN) should arrive within 5-7 business days of the 971 code appearing. You need to respond immediately upon receipt to prevent further processing delays!

According to Internal Revenue Manual section 21.5.6, the 570/971 combination without an 846 code typically indicates one of three scenarios: 1. Income verification is needed per IRC 6001 documentation requirements 2. A math error correction under IRC 6213(b) is being processed 3. A potential offset under Treasury Regulation 301.6402-1 is being evaluated The notice will specify which applies to you. You generally have 60 days to respond if it's scenario #1, 90 days for a deficiency notice, or simply informational for scenario #3.

Thx for breaking this down! Any idea how long it usually takes to get the refund after responding to whatever notice they send? Trying to figure out if I should adjust my budget for next month.

• Based on hundreds of cases I've seen this tax season • 570/971 combo typically resolves in 3-6 weeks • If identity verification is required, add 9 weeks • Simple math corrections resolve fastest (2-3 weeks) • Income verification takes longer (4-8 weeks) • Offsets are usually processed within 2 weeks of notice

I have the same codes but with different dates. Does it matter if the 971 date is after the 570 date? Or if they're the same day?

This is like finding a map when you're lost in the woods! I've been staring at these codes for weeks wondering what they mean. It's like the IRS speaks an entirely different language and expects us all to be fluent.

I had a similar situation last year where my transcript showed 570/971 for almost 5 weeks. Compared to people who just waited it out, I decided to call the IRS directly. Used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) to get through after failing for days on my own. Unlike waiting for weeks more, I got connected to an agent who explained exactly what was happening and fixed it while I was on the phone. My 846 code appeared 3 days later.

Wait, you have to pay just to call the IRS? I filed on February 3rd and still have these codes showing as of April 15th. Does this service actually work? Seems weird to pay to call a government agency.

OMG I'm going through this EXACT thing right now and I'm so stressed about it!! 😫 I've had the 570/971 combo for almost 3 weeks and I keep checking every morning hoping to see that beautiful 846 code! From what I've read in other groups, it seems like most people are getting their refunds about 2-4 weeks after these codes appear, but some are waiting longer. I'm just praying mine comes through soon because I really need it for some unexpected car repairs. 🙏
