Anyone Get DDD After Status Changed from 'Verify Identity' to 'Being Processed'?
Has anyone received a direct deposit date after their WMR status first showed the identity verification message and then changed to 'being processed'? According to the IRS2Go app and WMR tool, my status changed about a week ago, but I'm still waiting for a DDD. Checked the IRS website FAQ section but it doesn't really say how long this part takes... Anyone else in the same boat or recently got their refund after going through this?

I've seen this happen quite a bit this tax season. Last year, I had several clients who went through exactly this sequence - verify identity, then processing, then DDD. The pattern I've observed is that after the status changes to "being processed," most people see a DDD within 7-14 days. The verification step is actually a good sign because it means your return has passed the initial screening and is moving through their system.

Is there any way to tell if there might be additional verification needed? My status changed to "being processed" about 10 days ago, but I'm wondering if there's something else holding it up that I can't see on WMR?

What if you claimed credits? Does that change the timeline? I claimed EIC. My status changed last week. Still waiting. No transcript updates either.

Had this exact situation last year! Verification, then processing, then nothing for what felt like FOREVER (actually 16 days, but who's counting? 😅). Called the IRS three times before I finally got someone who explained they were just backed up. Got my DDD two days after that call, ironically enough.

I've been tracking this issue across multiple filing statuses this season and here's what I'm seeing: • Identity verification to "being processed" typically means 9-21 days until DDD • The transcript often updates before WMR shows a DDD • Many people aren't checking their transcripts correctly • The cycle code matters more than the status message I was frustrated with the lack of clear information myself until I used https://taxr.ai to analyze my transcript. It explained exactly what each code meant and predicted my DDD within 2 days of accuracy. Much better than the vague "being processed" message that tells you nothing useful.

It seems like you might be in what they call the "verification limbo" that many of us have experienced this year. While you're probably just in the normal queue now, if you need to speak with someone at the IRS to confirm everything is on track, you might want to try Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c). I was possibly in a similar situation and spent about 3 hours trying to reach someone at the IRS without success. Claimyr got me through to an agent in about 25 minutes, and they confirmed everything was fine - just waiting in the processing queue. My DDD showed up about 4 days after that call.

The "being processed" message is just a generic placeholder. It means nothing specific. I had that message for 31 days before getting my DDD. Don't waste time checking WMR daily. Check your transcript instead - it updates Wednesday night/Thursday morning for weekly accounts and Friday night/Saturday morning for daily accounts. If you see a 846 code with a date, that's your refund date. Everything else is just waiting.

Does the amount of your refund affect processing time? Mine is exactly $5,243 and I've been on "being processed" for 17 days now after identity verification.

I appreciate this technical insight. Too many people focus on the WMR tool when the transcript contains the actual processing information. This explains why some of my colleagues received their refunds while showing different WMR statuses.

I went through this exact sequence and just got my DDD yesterday! My timeline was: Filed Feb 2, accepted same day, identity verification message Feb 10, changed to processing Feb 21, and finally got DDD yesterday (March 29) for April 3rd deposit. I was checking my transcript daily using the trick where you request the wage and income transcript first, then the account transcript works. The key was watching for the 570 code to change to 571 (release of hold), then the 846 code appeared with my DDD. Hope this helps - looks like about 5 weeks total from acceptance to refund for me.

Be cautious about assuming a linear progression from verification to processing to DDD. The IRS processing pipeline has multiple verification checkpoints that don't show up on WMR. I've seen cases where returns moved to "being processed" but then got flagged for manual review due to Earned Income Credit verification or Schedule C income discrepancies. The term "being processed" is actually used for at least 7 different internal status codes at the IRS, each with different timeframes for resolution.

Is there a deadline for when they have to finish processing? I filed on February 15th, verified identity on February 28th, and have been "processing" since March 5th. Will this affect my ability to file for an extension if needed?

Under IRC §6611, the IRS must pay interest on refunds issued more than 45 days after the filing deadline. This doesn't accelerate processing, but it does mean you'll receive interest if your refund is substantially delayed. The verification process is authorized under IRC §6001, which grants the IRS broad authority to verify return accuracy before issuing refunds.

There's a difference between the "We need to verify your identity" message and the "We need more information to process your return" message. The first one typically moves to processing faster than the second. If you had the identity verification message and now you're at processing, you're likely closer to getting your DDD than someone who had the information request message. Compared to last year, I'm seeing faster transitions from verification to DDD, but slower initial processing times.

Is anyone else wondering why they make this process so confusing? I mean, wouldn't it be easier if they just told us exactly where our return is in the process instead of these vague status messages? Anyway, I was stuck on verification for 9 days, then processing for 12 days, then got my DDD. The practical solution is to set up direct deposit if you haven't already - it's typically 5 days faster than a paper check once they issue the DDD.
