Not to freak you out but have you checked if someone filed a return using your SSN? My friend had this happen to him last year - his transcript was blank but it turns out someone had already filed a fraudulent return with his info early in the season. Might be worth checking your credit report just to be safe.
He finally got through to the IRS and they told him. But don't panic - if you got an acceptance notification for YOUR return, that means the IRS accepted it under your SSN, so probably not identity theft. My friend never got an acceptance, his return was rejected.
Anyone else remember when refunds used to take like 2 weeks max? The IRS gets worse every year I swear. My parents told me they used to get their refunds in like 7-10 days back in the 90s.
For real! My first tax return in 2008, I filed and literally had the money 8 days later. Now we're sitting here begging for scraps of information 6 weeks later like π€‘
Congress keeps cutting their budget and then everyone complains when service gets worse. What did people expect would happen? π€·ββοΈ
So frustrating how the IRS holds onto our money for "reviews" but if we owe them, we better pay on time with interest! π The double standard is real.
Preach! They can take their sweet time giving us our money but we're penalized instantly if we're late. Make it make sense!
And they don't even pay us interest until after 45 days. Such a scam.
I used to freak out about these codes until I realized how common they are. Last year had 570, got my refund 3 weeks later with no contact from IRS. Year before had 420 examination code, got a letter, sent in docs, and still got full refund. Their system flags things automatically - try not to panic.
does it matter if both of you r over 18? I thot there wer age restrictions?
Age restrictions only apply to "qualifying child" dependents. For "qualifying relative" dependents (which is what OP would be), there are no age restrictions. They just need to meet the income test, support test, and residency test.
The IRS has a dependency assistant tool on their website that can help you figure this out: https://www.irs.gov/help/ita/whom-may-i-claim-as-a-dependent
I tried using that tool and it kept crashing halfway through. Classic IRS π€¦ββοΈ
Honestly so tired of dealing with the same thing. Have been waiting for my refund for 8 weeks! After getting nowhere with endless phone calls, I finally used that calling service from claimyr.com and got through to an IRS rep in under an hour. Found out there was a simple verification issue that needed to be cleared. It was the only way I could talk to a live agent, and they resolved my issue right away. My refund was released like 2 days later.
what's the catch? these services always have some hidden fee or something
No catch really. It's a paid service but honestly after spending weeks trying to get through, it was the best money I've ever spent to finally get my questions answered. They just hold your place in the phone queue so you don't have to keep calling and hitting redial for hours.
Here's what's probably happening: SBTPG received your refund from IRS, took out their fees, and is now in the process of ACHing the rest to your bank. During that ACH transfer window, their system sometimes shows 'unfunded' because technically the money has left their system but hasn't fully processed at your bank yet. This transition period typically takes 1-3 business days.

Ok I've been having so much trouble understanding my tax transcript and where my refund is. The IRS site is confusing AF with all these random codes and dates. I tried calling but gave up after being on hold for 2 hours. Anyone know how to actually figure out what's happening with my return?

β’If you need to actually talk to someone at the IRS (which is nearly impossible these days), try Claimyr. Got me a callback from an agent within 45 minutes after I spent days trying to get through on my own.

β’Thanks for the suggestions! Just tried taxr.ai and it totally broke down what was happening - turns out my return is under review because of a mismatch with one of my W2s. At least now I know what's going on!

OP - was this your first time using Current bank for tax refund? Wondering if its worth switching from my traditional bank if I'd get my refund faster next year.

β’Yep, first time! Used to use Chase and they always made me wait until the exact DDD date. Current definitely released it earlier which was nice.
