Need to reapply for DEO benefits after Benefit Year End (BYE) date passed?

I'm totally confused about this BYE (Benefit Year End) date stuff on my CONNECT account. My BYE date shows as March 22, 2025, which means I've been on unemployment for a full year now. Does this automatically mean I need to submit a whole new application? I still have a balance in my account and I'm still jobless, but I'm worried my payments will stop if I don't reapply. Has anyone dealt with this before? The DEO website is confusing and I can't get through on the phone to ask anyone. Will my weeks just continue or do I need to start the whole frustrating process over again? Thanks for any help!

Yes, you DO need to file a new application after your benefit year ends, even if you still have a balance remaining in your account. The BYE date is exactly what it sounds like - the end of your benefit year. Florida law requires a new application every 12 months. Your remaining balance doesn't carry over to a new benefit year. When you reapply, you'll go through the regular application process again, including the work search verification and employment history review. DEO will determine if you qualify for a new benefit year based on any work/earnings during your previous benefit year.

Oh no, really? That's so frustrating. Will there be a gap in my payments while they process the new application? Last time it took over a month to get approved!

9 days isn't too bad I guess. Did they make you do the ID.me verification thing again or did your old verification work?

The DEO system is DESIGNED to make us reapply and go through the whole nightmare again!! I had almost $2000 left in my account when my year ended and they basically STOLE that money by making me reapply. Then they found some bogus reason to deny my new claim even though NOTHING about my situation changed. The whole system is rigged to deny benefits and frustrate people into giving up!!

I understand your frustration, but legally they aren't 'stealing' the money. Florida law sets a maximum 12-month benefit period, after which eligibility must be reassessed. The remaining balance is just a calculation of what you could have received if you used all available weeks within that year. It doesn't guarantee those funds will be available after your BYE date.

Just went through this in January. You absolutely need to reapply. Here's what I learned: 1. File your new application the day after your BYE date 2. You will need to verify with ID.me again (they don't save this from your previous application) 3. They will review if you had any work during your benefit year to determine monetary eligibility 4. Make sure all your work search records are up to date before applying 5. If you have any pending issues from your previous benefit year, they won't carry over, but they could affect your new application In my case, it took about 2 weeks to get approved for a new benefit year. Good luck!

This is super helpful, thank you! I need to gather all my work search information then. I've been keeping records but they're kind of scattered all over the place.

Happened to me too! Had to reapply and they put me in adjudication for 6 weeks with no explanation. Couldn't reach anyone on the phone either - always busy signals or disconnects.

Have you tried using Claimyr to get through to DEO? I was stuck in the same situation with my reapplication stuck in adjudication. I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and they got me connected to a live agent in about 20 minutes instead of spending days redialing. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj. The agent was able to see that my adjudication was just sitting there waiting for review and escalated it. Got approved the next day!

just wondering how much work history do u need to qualify again? i only worked like 3 weeks during my last benefit year cause nobody hiring in my field

You need to have earned wages in at least 2 quarters of your base period, with total wages of at least 1.5x your high quarter earnings. The minimum to qualify is usually around $3,600-$4,000 in the base period. With only 3 weeks of work, you might not qualify for a regular new benefit year, unfortunately. However, definitely still apply - sometimes there are alternative eligibility criteria that might apply to your situation.

To add some important information: When you reapply after your BYE date, make sure you continue claiming weeks while your new application is processing. If your new application is approved, you'll be paid for those weeks (assuming you meet all eligibility requirements). If you wait to claim weeks until after approval, you may not be able to claim those past weeks. Also, your new Weekly Benefit Amount (WBA) might be different from your previous one, depending on your employment history during your previous benefit year.

Thank you so much! I definitely don't want to miss claiming any weeks. I'm going to start my application tomorrow since my BYE date just passed.

Same thing happened to me! My benefit amount got cut in half after reapplying. System is so unfair.

Thank you everyone for all the helpful advice! I'm going to start my reapplication tomorrow and make sure all my work search records are organized. I'll make sure to keep claiming weeks while it processes. Hopefully it goes smoothly but based on all your experiences I'm prepared for it to take some time. Really appreciate all the information!

One tip I wish someone had told me - when you reapply, double-check that your mailing address and direct deposit info are still correct in the system. During my reapplication process, somehow my address got corrupted and they were trying to mail correspondence to an incomplete address, which delayed everything by weeks. Also, if you have any old overpayment issues or anything like that from your previous benefit year, try to get those resolved before applying if possible. The system sometimes flags new applications if there are unresolved issues from the old claim. Good luck with your reapplication - the process is definitely frustrating but most people do get approved eventually!

This is really good advice about checking your address and direct deposit info! I hadn't thought about that. I actually do have an old overpayment issue from when I accidentally claimed a week I wasn't supposed to last year. Do you know if I need to pay that back before reapplying, or can I set up a payment plan while my new application processes? I'm worried it might automatically deny my new claim.
