Confused about 'claim weeks' payments from DEO - am I supposed to get money?

Hi everyone, I feel really dumb asking this but I'm new to Florida unemployment. I've been claiming my weeks for the past month through CONNECT and it says 'claim weeks processed' but I haven't received any payments. Am I actually supposed to be getting money from these weekly claims? My account shows 'eligible redetermined' status but there's no payment history. I thought claiming weeks was just for reporting job searches but now I'm wondering if I'm missing actual payments. How do I know if I should be receiving money? And if I should, how/when does it come?

Yes, you are definitely supposed to receive payment for your claim weeks! That's the whole point of unemployment - financial assistance while you're looking for work. If your status is 'eligible redetermined' and you've been claiming weeks properly, you should be getting paid. Check your payment method in CONNECT - did you select direct deposit or the Way2Go debit card? If it's direct deposit, verify your banking info is correct. If it's the card, it might have been mailed but not arrived yet. How long has it been since your first payment was supposed to arrive?

Thank you! I feel silly now. I selected the Way2Go card but haven't received anything in the mail yet. It's been about 3 weeks since I claimed my first week. Does it normally take this long? Should I call them?

dont worry i was confused too lol. yes ur supposed to get paid for each week u claim as long as ur eligible. the first payment usually takes longer bc they verify everything. did u do all the work searches? u need 5 per week or they wont pay u. also check if u have any 'pending issues' under your determination tab

Yes I did all the work searches! I even saved screenshots of them just in case. I don't see any pending issues under determination, it just says 'eligible redetermined' which I thought was good?

You absolutely should be receiving payment for properly claimed weeks if your status is 'eligible redetermined.' Three weeks is excessive for even the first payment if there are no pending issues. DEO typically issues first payments within 7-10 days after your initial claim is approved and you've claimed your weeks. Here's what I recommend: 1. Check if your Way2Go card was mailed - sometimes they're sent but get lost 2. Verify there are no holds on your account - check the 'Determination and Pending Issue Summary' page 3. Look for any fact-finding questionnaires you might have missed 4. Most importantly - call DEO directly to ask about your payment status The DEO phone system is notoriously difficult to get through. I recently used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to a live agent within 20 minutes after weeks of trying on my own. They have a demo video here: https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj. It saved me so much frustration.

I second the suggestion to call. My payments were delayed for a similar reason and it turned out there was a verification issue that didn't show up on my account. Only found out by talking to an actual person.

THE SYSTEM IS GARBAGE! I had the EXACT same issue back in January. 'Eligible redetermined' but no money for 5 weeks!!! When I finally got through they said it was stuck in some random verification queue that doesn't even show up online. Then MAGICALLY all the payments came through at once. They do this on PURPOSE to save money hoping people will give up!!!

This is actually very common. Their system has these invisible holds that don't appear on your account dashboard. I used to work in a related field and it's shocking how many payment issues are caused by system glitches rather than actual eligibility problems.

Just because it says 'eligible' doesn't always mean payments are being processed correctly. The DEO system can be... challenging. Here are some common issues that might explain why you're not receiving payments: 1. Adjudication hold (sometimes these don't appear clearly) 2. Identity verification issue with ID.me 3. Return to work date incorrectly entered 4. Income verification pending 5. Way2Go card mailed to wrong address The fastest way to resolve this is to speak directly with a DEO representative. They can see things in their system that aren't visible to you on CONNECT.

Thank you! I did verify my identity with ID.me, but maybe there's still an issue. I'm going to try calling tomorrow. I really appreciate everyone's help - I was genuinely confused if I was even supposed to be getting money!

My husband had this same problem. He kept claiming weeks but didn't realize he was supposed to actually receive money each time! We thought it was just record keeping for when they do the big payment at the end lol. Turns out his address was wrong so the Way2Go card went to our old apartment. Check all your personal info!

Oh no! That's exactly what I thought - that it was just record keeping! I'll double check my address in the system. Thanks for sharing your experience, makes me feel less alone in my confusion.

This happens more often than you'd think. To answer your original question: yes, you should be receiving payment for each properly claimed week when your status is 'eligible redetermined.' The standard benefit amount in Florida ranges from $125 to $375 per week depending on your previous earnings. One thing no one has mentioned - check if your claim has a 'hold' status for benefit payment audit. DEO randomly selects some claims for additional verification that can delay payments. This wouldn't appear as a 'pending issue' but rather as a temporary administrative hold. Given the time that's passed, I strongly recommend calling DEO directly at 800-681-8102. Be prepared to wait or be disconnected multiple times - their phone system is overwhelmed most days.

Good point about the benefit payment audit. Those can be really frustrating because they often don't trigger any notifications, you just don't get paid and have to call to find out why.

my sister just went through this! turned out she had to claim a second time first payment never comes automatically you have to do the claim weeks TWICE before money starts. really weird but that's how Florida's system works for some reason

That's not actually how the system is designed to work, but it can seem that way because of delays. The first payment should process after your first claimed weeks, but it often takes longer due to initial verification processes. Subsequent payments are typically faster once the first one is processed correctly.

Thank you everyone for all the helpful responses! I finally got through to DEO this morning (took about 15 attempts) and found out there was an 'employment verification hold' that wasn't showing up in my account. The agent cleared it and said my payments should process within 48 hours. She also confirmed my Way2Go card was mailed 3 weeks ago, so she's having them send a replacement. Really appreciate all the advice - this system is so confusing for newcomers!

Great news! Glad you got it resolved. Those hidden holds are frustratingly common. Make sure to keep claiming your weeks on schedule even while waiting for the card - the payments will accumulate and be available once you receive it.
