Won my EDD appeal - do I need to call EDD to notify them about winning my case?

Quick question for anyone who's been through the appeals process. I had my hearing last Tuesday and just got the decision letter today saying I won my appeal against the EDD's determination! They originally disqualified me for "voluntarily quitting without good cause" but the judge ruled in my favor. The letter says the original determination is reversed, but now I'm unsure about next steps. Do I need to actually call EDD to let them know I won? Or does the judge/appeals board automatically notify them? I'm just worried about delays since I've already waited 8 weeks with no payments. Will they start processing my backpay automatically or should I be proactive? Thanks in advance!

Congrats on winning your appeal! The Appeals Board automatically notifies EDD of the decision, so you don't technically need to call them. The judge's decision gets transmitted electronically to EDD within 3-5 business days. However, in my experience, it can sometimes help to call them after about a week just to make sure they've processed the decision correctly. Sometimes claims can still get stuck in the system even after an appeal win.

Thank you! That's a relief. I'll give it about a week then check in just to be safe. Any idea how long it typically takes for them to release the back payments after they process the appeal decision?

That's awesome! 10 days would be amazing. I've been stressing about rent coming up soon.

While the Appeals Board does notify EDD, I highly recommend calling them after 7-10 business days to confirm they've received and processed the decision. Make sure you have your appeal case number and the date of the decision when you call. During this call, also ask them for an estimate on when your back payments will be processed. If you notice any delays beyond two weeks, request to speak with a tier 2 specialist who can manually review the status. EDD should implement the judge's decision in their system within 2 weeks, but sometimes there are delays.

Its so frustrating that we have to call them even after WINNING the case!! like do your job EDD!! I won my appeal in December and still had to call THREE TIMES to get my payments. the system is SO broken

I was in the exact same situation 2 months ago! Won my appeal for the same reason (voluntary quit). Here's what happened: I waited 2 weeks after getting my decision letter and nothing changed on my UI Online account. Then I tried calling EDD for THREE DAYS straight and couldn't get through - kept getting the "we're experiencing high call volume" message and disconnecting me. Finally found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to an actual EDD rep in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km Once I got through, the rep confirmed they had the appeal decision but it was sitting in a queue waiting to be manually processed. They expedited it and my payments started showing up 2 days later. So definitely worth calling, but be prepared for the frustration of trying to get through.

Oh wow, that's really helpful info! I was wondering how hard it would be to actually reach someone. I'll check out that service if I can't get through on my own after a week or so. Did they backdate all your payments correctly once they processed everything?

CALL THEM RIGHT AWAY!!!! I won my appeal in February and assumed they would automatically start my payments again. BIG MISTAKE!! I waited almost a MONTH and nothing happened!!! When I finally got through to EDD, they claimed they "never received the decision" even though I had my letter! Then they made me wait ANOTHER 2 weeks while they "looked into it"!! The system is COMPLETELY BROKEN and they will drag their feet as long as possible to avoid paying you what they owe!!

Hmm I think I had a different experience from most people here. I won my appeal last year and didn't have to call anyone. The payments just showed up in my account about 8 days after I got the letter. Maybe I just got lucky?

Update on my earlier comment - I just remembered something important: Keep certifying for benefits while you wait for them to process your appeal decision! The certification weeks will show as "Disqualified" until they update the system, but you still need to submit them. Otherwise, once they process your appeal win, they'll only pay you for weeks you certified for. I've seen people miss out on backpay because they stopped certifying during the appeal process.

Thanks for the reminder! I've continued certifying every two weeks even though they've all been showing as disqualified. Glad to hear I've been doing the right thing!

One more important detail: Make sure you download and save a PDF copy of your appeal decision letter. If you do need to call EDD and there's any confusion about your case, having this document readily available can save a lot of time. Also, when your payments do start processing, carefully review each week to ensure they applied the correct weekly benefit amount and included any additional supplements you're eligible for. If you notice any discrepancies after they process your backpay, call immediately as it's much easier to fix payment issues right away rather than months later.

Great advice - I've already saved a PDF and took screenshots of the letter just in case. I'll definitely check all the payment amounts carefully when they come through. Thanks!

Congratulations on winning your appeal! I went through a similar situation about 6 months ago. The Appeals Board does automatically notify EDD, but here's what I learned: give it about 5-7 business days, then definitely call to confirm they've received and processed the decision. In my case, the notification went through fine, but my claim was stuck in some kind of "pending review" status that required a manual push from an EDD rep. Once they cleared that, I got my backpay within 3 business days. Also, make sure to keep certifying during this waiting period - those weeks will flip from "disqualified" to "paid" once they update your claim status. The whole process took about 2 weeks total for me, but calling definitely sped things up. Good luck!

This is really helpful, thank you! It sounds like calling after 5-7 business days is the sweet spot - not too early but not waiting so long that things get stuck. I'm glad to hear your backpay came through so quickly once they cleared the review status. Did you have any trouble getting through to EDD when you called, or did you use any specific strategies to reach a rep?

Just wanted to add my experience since I went through this exact situation about 4 months ago! I won my appeal for the same "voluntary quit" issue and was also unsure about next steps. Here's what I learned: The Appeals Board does automatically send the decision to EDD, but there's often a delay in their system actually processing it. I waited about 10 days and then called EDD to confirm they had received the decision. The rep told me it was in their queue but needed to be manually reviewed and updated in their system. She was able to expedite it right then and there, and my payments started showing up within 48 hours. My advice: wait about a week to give the automatic process a chance to work, then call to confirm. Also, definitely keep certifying during this waiting period - all those "disqualified" weeks will flip to "paid" once they update your claim. The backpay should include everything from when you were originally disqualified. Hope this helps and congrats on winning your appeal!
