EDD virtual orientation nightmare - missed call or completed requirement?

I'm totally confused about what just happened with my EDD virtual orientation appointment. Had it scheduled for 10:15 this morning, logged in on time, watched two required videos, but never received any phone call from an EDD rep that I was expecting. Now my UI Online account still shows 'Action Required: Virtual Orientation' status. Did I actually complete the requirement by just watching the videos? Or was I supposed to get a call too? There were no instructions about what to do after watching the videos. Anyone deal with this before? I'm worried my benefits will be delayed if the system doesn't recognize I attended.

same thing happnd to me last month!! the videos ARE the orientation, ur good. the status just takes like 2-3 days to update in the system. they never actually call u

Are you sure? The confirmation email mentioned something about a rep discussing my work search plan. Super nervous they're going to disqualify me for missing something!

The virtual orientation requirements changed recently. As of January 2025, the orientation is considered complete after watching both mandatory videos. The system should update within 48-72 hours, and your next certification won't be affected. If the status hasn't updated after 3 business days, then there might be an issue. When you completed the videos, did you see a confirmation screen or message?

I think there was a confirmation screen? It all happened pretty fast and I was expecting a call so I stayed logged in for another 30 minutes. I'll wait the 48-72 hours then. Thank you for clarifying!

WRONG INFORMATION ABOVE! EDD is still doing follow-up calls for certain claim types - depends if you're on regular UI or if you have a specialized situation. I had my virtual orientation last week and DID get a call about 20 mins after watching the videos. The rep asked about my work search activities and updated my status immediately. You should call EDD to check if you missed their call!!!

I just went through this exact thing two weeks ago and was panicking too! Here's exactly what happened: watched the videos, got no call, status stayed as "Action Required" for 2 days, then automatically updated to completed. The orientation is actually just the videos now, but the system is slow to update your status. Don't worry about the call - they only do those for people with special circumstances or who need interpreter services (it says this in the fine print of the orientation instructions if you scroll all the way down).

Omg thank you! I didn't see that fine print at all. That makes me feel so much better. I'll wait for it to update then.

You know what's absolutely RIDICULOUS about this whole system? They can't even clearly communicate whether someone needs to wait for a call or not! Every time EDD changes their procedures, they do a terrible job telling claimants. I've been through THREE claim periods in the last few years and EVERY SINGLE TIME there's some new confusing mess like this. Why don't they just PUT IN BOLD LETTERS whether you should expect a call or not?? The amount of anxiety they cause people who are already stressed about being unemployed is completely unacceptable!

I had the same issue and was worried about missing my call. After trying for days to reach EDD with no luck, I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an agent. They connected me within 20 minutes when I had been trying for days! The agent confirmed that for most regular UI claims, the videos alone complete the requirement and the system updates within 3 business days. You can see how it works in their video demo: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km The agent told me they prioritize calls for specific situations like language assistance or disability accommodations. Saved me a ton of stress knowing for sure!

Thanks for the suggestion. If my status doesn't update by Friday I might try this. Did they explain why the system is so confusing about whether to expect a call or not?

Here's a definitive answer based on EDD's latest guidance (March 2025): The virtual orientation process varies by claim type and factors in your application responses: 1. Standard UI claims: Watch both videos = completion (status updates in 2-3 business days) 2. Claims with special circumstances (language needs, industry-specific requirements, etc.): Watch videos AND receive follow-up call The confusion stems from EDD using the same 'Virtual Orientation' portal for both processes. Your confirmation email should specify if you need a call, but many people miss this detail. Since your status is still 'Action Required' after completing the videos, I recommend: 1. Check your confirmation email for any mention of a follow-up call 2. Wait 3 full business days for system update 3. If still showing 'Action Required' after day 3, contact EDD One important note: You can still certify for benefits while waiting for the orientation status to update.

This is so helpful! I just checked my email again and it doesn't explicitly mention a follow-up call, just says to complete the orientation at the scheduled time. I'll give it the 3 days and then reach out if needed. Thank you!

when i did my orientation last year i had to do way more than just watch videos, had to fill out a whole worksheet and upload it, then had interview. sounds like they keep changing everything!!! typical edd chaos lol

Yeah they completely revamped the system in December 2024. Now most people just watch the videos unless you have special circumstances. They realized the old system was causing too many delays in processing claims.
