Missed ID verification but had EDD interview - will this affect my claim approval?
I'm totally freaking out right now. I applied for unemployment benefits about 3 weeks ago and just realized I completely forgot to do the ID.me verification that was requested. But here's the weird thing - I had my eligibility phone interview on March 11th with an EDD representative, and she never mentioned anything about missing identity verification during our 20-minute call. She just asked questions about my previous employment and why I left. The interview seemed to go well, but now I'm worried this forgotten verification will mess everything up. My claim is still showing as 'pending' in the system. Has anyone had this happen? Will they automatically deny me or will they just send another verification request? Should I call EDD and tell them I missed it or just wait to see what happens?

•Oh no! That's exactly what I'm afraid of. Did they at least give you a chance to complete the verification after they noticed it was missing?

Don't panic yet. The representative who did your interview might have flagged your account for the missing verification, but they don't always mention every issue during the interview. They focus primarily on eligibility factors like your job separation. Check your UI Online inbox - there might already be a notification about the missing verification. If not, I'd recommend proactively completing the ID.me verification ASAP rather than waiting for them to request it again. Then call EDD to let them know you've completed it. Sometimes these things get overlooked if you're proactive.

•Thank you so much! I just checked my UI Online inbox and there's nothing about ID verification there. I'll go ahead and complete it right away and then try to contact them. Fingers crossed this doesn't delay my benefits too much.

EDD is SO inconsistent with this stuff!! My friend didn't do her ID.me and still got approved while I did EVERYTHING right and still had to wait 6 weeks!!! The system is totally broken. You might get lucky or you might not. It's like rolling dice with them.

The ID verification issue is separate from your eligibility interview. Your claim can be held up at different stages for different reasons. The interview focuses on why you're unemployed and whether you qualify based on those circumstances. The identity verification is a completely different process handled by a different department. Here's what you should do immediately: 1. Complete your ID.me verification right now (don't wait) 2. Call EDD to notify them that you've completed it and ask if there's anything else needed 3. Document the date, time and the name of any representative you speak with If your claim is stuck in pending longer than a week after completing verification, you may need to call again.

•Thank you for breaking it down so clearly! I've completed the ID.me verification now. The problem is I've been trying to call EDD for 2 days and can't get through. Always get the "we're experiencing high call volume" message and then it hangs up. Very frustrating!

I had a similar issue last month. I tried calling for days with no luck - always got the "too many callers" message and disconnected. Finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an agent after wasting hours redialing. They have this service that basically calls EDD for you and connects you when they get through. Saved me so much frustration. They have a demo video at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km showing how it works. The rep I spoke with was able to note in my file that I completed the verification and my claim started moving again within a few days.

•This sounds exactly like what I need! I've been calling constantly and can't get through. I'll check out that website - at this point I'd try anything to get this resolved. Thanks for sharing!

The ID.me verification is required by law before they can issue any payments, so yes, you definitely need to complete it or your claim will stay pending indefinitely. The interview person probably didn't mention it because they're just focused on eligibility and not the technical stuff. But don't worry too much - I forgot mine too and was able to complete it later. Just do it ASAP!

Quick update question - have you received any communication from EDD since completing the ID.me verification? Sometimes they process these things quickly if there's no discrepancy, but other times it can take a while if there are any issues with matching your information. Also, did you receive any confirmation email from ID.me after completing the verification?

•Yes! I got a confirmation email from ID.me saying my verification was successful. But nothing from EDD yet. My UI Online account still shows the claim as pending. It's been 3 days since I completed the verification. Should I be worried?

Three days is still within normal processing time. ID.me sends the verification to EDD, but EDD still needs to process it on their end. If nothing changes after 7-10 business days, that's when you should follow up. In the meantime, make sure you continue to certify for benefits every two weeks even if your claim is still pending. Once your claim is approved, you'll receive all eligible back payments for the weeks you've certified.

•That's a relief! I'll keep certifying and give them the full 10 business days before I start worrying again. Thanks for all the help everyone!

I'm in almost the exact same situation! Filed 3 weeks ago, missed the ID.me verification initially, and had my phone interview on March 15th. The rep didn't mention the missing verification either during our call. I completed the ID.me verification yesterday after reading through all these comments and got the confirmation email. My claim is still pending too. It's such a relief to know I'm not the only one who missed this step initially. Hopefully we'll both see our claims move forward soon! Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences and advice here.
