EDD ID verification missed but had eligibility interview - will this block my claim?
So I completely messed up and realized I never completed my ID.me verification after filing my claim 3 weeks ago. I had my eligibility interview on March 11th with an EDD rep who went through my work history and reason for separation, but she never once mentioned anything about my identity verification being incomplete. Now I'm freaking out that my whole claim will be denied or delayed because of this oversight. Has anyone had this happen? Will they approve my claim without the ID verification or am I going to have to start this whole process over again? My account just shows 'pending' with no alerts or messages about missing verification.

The ID verification and eligibility interview are two separate processes. The eligibility interview only determines if you qualify based on your work history and reason for separation, not your identity. You definitely need to complete the ID.me verification ASAP as your payments won't be released until this is done, even if you're found eligible after the interview. Log into UI Online and check your homepage or notifications section for the ID.me link. If you can't find it, call EDD to have them send you a new verification link.

•Thanks for explaining! I'm not seeing any ID.me links in my UI Online account. Do you think this means they somehow verified me another way? Or should I still try to call?

don't panic yet, sometimes they verify u thru DMV records. did ur interview lady say anything about ur claim being approved? if she said ur eligible then ur probably good, just gotta wait for the system to process

•She didn't specifically say I was approved, just went through all my info and said I'd hear back in 7-10 days. It's been 4 days now and nothing's changed in my account.

•Yeah they never tell you anything during those interviews! I had mine in January and the rep literally just said "ok thank you" and hung up. Then 2 weeks of silence before suddenly $$$ appeared in my account lol. The waiting is the WORST part.

This happened to me in February. The ID verification and eligibility are completely separate tracks in their system. The interview can go perfectly, but your claim will stay stuck in 'pending' if the ID verification isn't completed. In my case, they never even sent me the original ID.me link, so I had no idea I was missing something. You need to call EDD customer service immediately to have them send you a new verification link. The problem is getting through - I tried for 6 days straight and couldn't get past the "we're experiencing high call volume" message. I finally used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to an EDD rep in about 25 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. The rep sent me a new ID.me link, I completed it that day, and my pending payments were released 48 hours later.

•That's exactly what I needed to know! I'll try calling tomorrow morning at 8am sharp, and if I can't get through I'll check out that Claimyr service. Did they ask why you waited so long to complete the verification?

•They didn't give me any trouble about the timing. I just explained I never received the original notification, and they were actually really understanding. The rep told me it happens all the time with their system notifications not getting delivered properly. Just be honest about not realizing it was required.

LISTEN TO ME CAREFULLY!!! Do NOT assume anything with EDD!! I had the EXACT same situation last year and I waited thinking everything was fine after my interview. Ended up waiting 11 WEEKS with no payment because the ID verification was missing! The computer system and the interview people DO NOT TALK TO EACH OTHER!!! Their left hand has NO IDEA what the right hand is doing! The interview people ONLY care about eligibility. They won't mention the ID stuff because it's not their department and frankly they don't care if your payments are held up. It's a totally broken system!!!

•Oh god that sounds awful, I definitely don't want to wait 11 weeks! I'm going to call them tomorrow for sure. What department did you eventually have to talk to?

•You need to specifically ask for the IDENTITY VERIFICATION department when you call. Don't let them transfer you to general claims. And good luck even getting through - I had to call 47 times in one day before I got past their stupid phone system!

•I really hope not! My claim is only 3 weeks old so hopefully that's not too long. Did your cousin have to wait a long time to get benefits after reapplying?

To update everyone following this thread: The rule is that ID verification must be completed within 30 days of filing your claim. If the OP is only at 3 weeks, they're still within that window. The key is to complete the verification ASAP through a new link that EDD can provide over the phone. Once completed, there's typically a 48-72 hour processing period before pending payments are released (assuming the eligibility interview determined you qualified). EDD won't automatically deny the claim for late ID verification if you're still within the 30-day window.

•Thank you so much for this info! I feel much better knowing I still have time. I'll definitely get this taken care of this week.

I had my identity verification flagged during my claim last month and was able to resolve it. Here's what worked for me: 1. Check your UI Online inbox and spam folder first - sometimes the ID.me link gets lost there 2. If no link, call EDD at exactly 8:00am (set an alarm for 7:59am) 3. Use the option for "claim questions" not technical support 4. Tell them you need an ID.me link resent 5. Complete the verification immediately when you get it 6. After completing verification, allow 2-3 business days for processing In my case, my pending payments switched to paid within 48 hours after verification was completed. Don't wait on this - the sooner you handle it, the less complications you'll have.

•This is super helpful, thank you! I'm setting my alarm for 7:55am tomorrow to be ready to call right at 8:00. Fingers crossed I can get through without too many attempts.

UPDATE: I called EDD this morning at 8:00am sharp and got the "too many callers" message. Tried 12 more times and couldn't get through. I ended up using the Claimyr service that someone recommended above, and it actually worked! Got connected to an EDD rep in about 30 minutes. The rep confirmed my ID verification was missing but said I'm still within the window to complete it. She sent a new ID.me link to my email while I was on the phone, and I completed the verification right after. She said my pending payments should process within 2-3 business days as long as my eligibility interview went well. Thank you everyone for your help! I'll update again when/if my payments go through.

•Great job being proactive! This is exactly the right approach. Most claims get stuck because people wait too long to address issues. You should see movement on your claim by early next week based on the timeline.

FINAL UPDATE: Just wanted to close the loop on this - my payments went from pending to paid this morning! Took exactly 2 business days after completing the ID verification. All three weeks of my claim were paid at once. So relieved this worked out. For anyone with similar issues, don't wait - call EDD right away and get your ID verification sorted out!

This is such a helpful thread! I'm dealing with a similar situation right now - filed my claim 2 weeks ago and just realized I never got any ID.me verification link. My eligibility interview is scheduled for next week, but now I'm worried they won't even process it if my identity isn't verified first. Should I try to get the ID verification sorted out before my interview, or does the order not matter? Also, for those who used Claimyr, did you have any issues with the service or was it pretty straightforward?

•Hey! Based on what I learned from this thread, definitely get your ID verification sorted out ASAP - don't wait for your interview! The two processes are completely separate and your payments will be held up even if your eligibility interview goes perfectly. I'd recommend calling EDD tomorrow morning at 8am to get a new ID.me link sent to you. If you can't get through after multiple tries, the Claimyr service that @d9bbb2bc99cf used seems legit - she got connected in 30 minutes and had her whole issue resolved. Better to handle this now while you're still well within the 30-day window rather than risk delays later!
