EDD sent new debit card while current one not expired - activation confusion
So I just received a new EDD Money Network debit card in the mail yesterday, but my current card doesn't expire for another 10 days. The letter with the new card doesn't explain what I'm supposed to do. Do I need to activate this new card right away? Will it automatically become active when my old one expires? I'm worried about losing access to my benefits if I mess this up. I have about $1,750 still on my current card that I need to use. Anyone dealt with this card transition process before?

•Thanks, but I'm still a bit worried. Will the balance automatically transfer to the new card? Or should I withdraw all the money before my current card expires?

You should actually activate the new card right away, but you can continue using your old card until it expires. When your old card expires, the remaining balance will automatically transfer to your new card. I went through this last year and called Money Network to confirm. The activation instructions should be on a sticker on the front of your card - usually you just call the number and set a PIN.

•This is correct. I work at a bank and deal with these situations often. The new card needs to be activated in advance, but you can keep using the old card until expiration date. Money Network processes the transfer automatically.

I HAD THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM last month!!!!! EDD sent me a card with NO WARNING and I thought it was a scam at first!!! The customer service said to activate right away but KEEP USING the old card until it expires. Then check your balance transferred. It took like 3 business days after my old card expired for everything to show up on my new card. So frustrating how they don't explain ANYTHING clearly!!!! 😡😡😡

•Ugh, typical EDD lack of communication. Thanks for sharing your experience! I'll plan to have some cash on hand during that transfer period just in case.

Here's the exact process: 1. Activate your new Money Network card immediately by calling the number on the sticker 2. Continue using your old card until its expiration date 3. Once your old card expires, wait 1-2 business days for the system to automatically transfer your remaining balance 4. If the balance doesn't appear after 3 business days, call Money Network support I recommend making any essential withdrawals or purchases before your old card expires, just to be safe. The automatic transfer usually works smoothly, but it's better to be prepared.

•If you need to reach EDD about any related issues, try Claimyr (claimyr.com). They helped me get through to an EDD agent in about 20 minutes after I spent days trying on my own. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. Saved me so much stress when I had similar card transfer problems that Money Network couldn't resolve.

•This is incorrect information. The Money Network system is designed to automatically transfer remaining balances. While there can occasionally be delays in the transfer process, you will not lose your funds. If you experience issues, contact Money Network customer service and they can assist with resolving balance transfer problems.

Update: I called the number on the sticker and activated my new card. The rep confirmed I should keep using my old card until it expires, and the balance will transfer automatically within 1-2 business days after expiration. He said I can check my balance online during the transition. Thanks everyone for the help!

FYI for anyone else who finds this thread - I had this same situation and my funds transferred fine, but my automatic bill payments had to be set up again with the new card. The card number changes, so anything on autopay needs to be updated after you activate the new card.

Glad you got it sorted! One more tip - take a screenshot of your balance right before your old card expires. That way, if there are any discrepancies during the transfer, you have documentation of exactly how much should be on your new card.

•That's great advice, thank you! I'll definitely do that.
