EDD Money Network card activation - does old BofA balance transfer automatically?

Hey everyone, I'm super confused about this whole transition from Bank of America to Money Network for EDD payments. I just received my new Money Network card in the mail yesterday (finally!!), but I still have about $2,800 on my old BofA EDD card from my last certification. When I activated the Money Network card, there was nothing mentioned about transferring my existing balance. Does anyone know if the system automatically moves my remaining funds over to the new card once it's activated? Or do I need to do something to transfer it myself? I'm certifying again this Sunday and I'm worried about where that money will go - will it still deposit to my old BofA card or go to the new Money Network one? Help please!!

The funds on your BofA card won't automatically transfer to the Money Network card. You'll need to spend down the balance on your old BofA card or transfer it to your personal bank account. Any NEW payments after you've activated your Money Network card will go to the new card. The two systems are separate - they don't talk to each other. I went through this transition last month and it was confusing but worked fine once I understood how it operated.

Omg thank you so much!! So just to make sure I understand - I need to manually transfer the $2,800 from my BofA card to my bank account, but when I certify on Sunday, that payment will automatically go to my new Money Network card since I've already activated it? I appreciate the help!

Just be careful with withdrawals from the BofA card - there are daily limits. I think it's $1000 per day, and you might have ATM fees depending on which one you use. I transferred mine to my checking account instead to avoid those fees.

When I got my Money Network card, I was SO FRUSTRATED trying to figure this out!! The EDD should have sent clearer instructions with these new cards. The Money Network system is totally separate from BofA. Your old money stays on the BofA card until you use it up, and all new payments go to Money Network once it's activated. The annoying part is you have to manage two cards for a while, which is a pain in the butt! Also, make sure you set up your new Money Network account online so you can track your deposits.

Thanks for confirming! I've been searching for an answer everywhere. Do you know if there's an expiration date on accessing the funds on the BofA card? I'm wondering if I should just transfer everything out ASAP or if I can take my time.

I'm pretty sure the BofA card is still valid for whatever the expiration date shows on the front of the card, even though EDD switched providers. I transferred most of mine out just to be safe, but kept some on there for gas purchases. The transition was handled so poorly by EDD - typical government efficiency lol.

I had the same issue!!! so annoying that they didnt explain this better. my first payment after activation went to the new card automatically but my old money is still stuck on the bofa card. i'm still using it for groceries and stuff

Anyone else having trouble getting through to EDD to ask questions about this card transition? I've been calling for THREE DAYS trying to confirm the same things OP is asking about and just get disconnected or told "we're experiencing high call volume" every single time. So frustrating!!!

I had the same issue trying to reach EDD about my card questions. I finally got through using Claimyr - it's a service that connects you with an EDD rep without the endless redial game. Costs a bit but totally worth it when you need answers quickly. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km and their site is claimyr.com. Saved me hours of frustration when I needed to sort out why my new Money Network card wasn't receiving deposits.

I work with unemployment claims professionally, and I can confirm what others have said. The funds do NOT transfer automatically between cards. Here's what you need to know: 1. Any funds on your BofA EDD card will remain there until you spend or transfer them 2. New certifications will deposit to your Money Network card once it's activated 3. The BofA card will remain active until its expiration date 4. You can transfer funds from either card to your personal bank account One important note: If you had any automatic transfers set up from your BofA card, those won't carry over to Money Network. You'll need to set up new transfer instructions in the Money Network portal.

Thank you for the detailed explanation! Wish EDD had explained this clearly when they sent the new cards. Do you happen to know if the Money Network card has the same fees as the BofA card did? I used to get hit with ATM fees all the time.

The Money Network card fee structure is actually better in some ways. You get unlimited free withdrawals at MoneyPass ATMs (there's an ATM locator in the app). However, out-of-network ATM fees are $2.50 plus whatever the ATM owner charges. The best option is usually to transfer to your bank account, which is free and can be set up as automatic after each deposit.

Just a heads-up that sometimes there's a delay with the first payment to the Money Network card. Mine took an extra day to show up compared to how quickly it used to hit my BofA card. Don't panic if that happens to you too!

UPDATE: Thanks everyone for the help! My certification from Sunday just processed and the payment DID go straight to my Money Network card automatically. Now I'm working on transferring the remaining balance from my BofA card to my checking account. The whole transition was definitely confusing but at least it's working now!

Glad it worked out! If you haven't already, make sure to download the Money Network mobile app - it makes managing the card much easier than the website.

Great to hear it all worked out for you! This thread is going to be so helpful for other people going through the same transition. I'm still waiting for my Money Network card to arrive - EDD said it could take up to 10 business days. Did you have to do anything special to activate it or was it pretty straightforward? Also, how long did the bank transfer take from your BofA card to your checking account? I want to have everything ready to go when my card finally shows up!

Hey! I'm in the same boat waiting for my Money Network card - been about 7 business days so far. From what I've read in this thread, activation seems pretty straightforward once you get the card. @Lucas Adams mentioned it was simple when he did it. Really helpful thread for those of us still in the transition process! Did anyone else have to wait longer than the 10 business days EDD quoted?
