EDD scheduled wrong job for my eligibility interview - Can I get it rescheduled?

I just received my notice for an eligibility interview with EDD, but they listed a completely different job than the one I'm claiming benefits for! The interview is scheduled for next Thursday (only 6 days away), and they want me to discuss a retail position I had in 2023, but my claim is based on my construction job that ended in February 2025. I don't have any of the documentation prepared for that old job since I wasn't expecting to discuss it. Shouldn't EDD reschedule me so I can properly prepare? Has anyone dealt with this before? Will they disqualify me if I explain this during the actual interview? I'm worried they'll think I'm making excuses if I show up unprepared.

same thing happened to me last year! they had me down for a resturant job but my claim was for warehouse work. when i called they said its just a mistake in the system but the interview still counts for ur current claim. dont worry about it too much

Did you have to provide documentation for both jobs though? I don't have any paperwork from that retail job anymore and I'm worried they'll penalize me for not being prepared.

This is actually a common issue with EDD notices. When you get on the call, immediately clarify which employment you're claiming benefits for. The interviewer should have access to your full work history in their system. While the notice might list the wrong job, the interview itself will focus on your most recent work separation (your construction job). Bring documentation for BOTH jobs if possible. They're looking at your overall eligibility, not just one specific job. Remember to explain clearly why you left each position as that affects your eligibility status.

Thank you! I'll try to gather whatever I can find about both jobs. Do you think I should call EDD before the interview to try to get this fixed, or just wait and explain during the interview?

Just had my interview yesterday and they actually asked about THREE different jobs! I was only expecting to discuss my most recent one. The EDD system is so frustrating sometimes!

DO NOT WAIT FOR THE INTERVIEW!!! Call them RIGHT AWAY!! If you wait until the interview, they WILL disqualify you for not being prepared and you'll have to go through the whole appeals process which takes MONTHS!! I know because this EXACT thing happened to me and I ended up with NO BENEFITS for 11 weeks while waiting for my appeal hearing!!! CALL THEM NOW!!!

While I understand your concern, this information isn't entirely accurate. EDD won't automatically disqualify someone just because the wrong job is listed on the interview notice. They're primarily interested in the reason for separation from your most recent employer. However, I do agree that trying to contact them before the interview is a good idea, if possible.

It's always best to try contacting EDD before your interview to get this corrected, but we all know how difficult reaching them can be. I'd recommend using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to help you get through to an EDD representative quickly. They have a service that helps you bypass the long wait times and connect with an agent who can help sort this out. I used them when I had issues with my interview notice and got through in about 20 minutes instead of spending days trying to call. They have a video demo of how it works here: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km

Yes, it worked for me. The key is that they call at the optimal times when the queue isn't full and use technology to navigate the phone tree quickly. Saved me hours of frustration.

Here's what you should do in this situation: 1. Try to contact EDD before your interview to explain the error. Prepare all documentation for your construction job. 2. If you cannot reach them (which is likely), prepare for the interview by gathering ANY information you can about both jobs. 3. At the beginning of the interview, politely inform the interviewer about the error on the notice. Explain that your claim is based on your construction job that ended in February 2025. 4. The interviewer should be able to adjust and focus on the relevant employment. Be prepared to discuss why you left your construction job in detail. 5. Answer all questions honestly. If you don't remember specific details about the retail job, simply state that you don't recall but are happy to provide that information later if needed. EDD will not typically reschedule an interview for this reason, as their primary concern is determining your eligibility based on your most recent work separation. The error on the notice doesn't change the purpose of the interview.

This is really helpful, thank you! I'll follow these steps and make sure I have my construction job documentation ready. I feel much less anxious now.

Yes, EDD does record eligibility interviews for their records. However, you shouldn't be worried about saying "the wrong thing" if you're being honest. Just answer questions truthfully about why you're no longer employed, and you'll be fine.

UPDATE: I managed to get through to EDD this morning! The representative told me they can see all my employment history in their system, and the interview will cover my most recent job separation (construction) regardless of what's listed on the notice. She said this happens often and not to worry about it. She noted in my file about the error so the interviewer will be aware. Thank you all for the advice!

I used that Claimyr service someone recommended here and got through in about 25 minutes! Would have been impossible otherwise I think.
