EDD phone issues: Need help with pending certifications and debit card status after hearing

So frustrated right now! I just had my appeal hearing and now I'm totally confused about what happens next with my claim. I got paid for a couple weeks I certified for (thank goodness!) but there are still several weeks that are pending certification that I can't access in UI Online. Also, I haven't received my Money Network debit card yet and I'm getting worried. My claim actually got closed while I was waiting for my hearing (stopped getting certification emails after April 6th). Now that my hearing is over, do I need to reopen my claim or will EDD automatically update everything? I've tried calling them like 20 times today but every single time I get through the prompts, the call just disconnects! Does anyone know how long it typically takes for EDD to update things after a hearing? And what's the average time to receive the debit card? This is my first time dealing with unemployment and I'm completely lost. Any advice for getting through to an actual human at EDD would be so appreciated!

First, congratulations on getting through your hearing! For your specific questions: 1) EDD typically takes 5-10 business days to fully update your claim after a hearing decision. However, this can sometimes stretch to 2-3 weeks if there are complications. 2) Regarding your pending certification weeks - those won't automatically become available. You'll need to speak with an EDD representative to have them release those weeks for certification. 3) For your Money Network card - if this is your first time receiving benefits, the card is usually mailed 7-10 business days after your first payment is processed. If it's been longer than 10 business days since your payment was issued, you should contact Money Network directly at 1-866-320-8699 to check the status. 4) About your claim closure - yes, you will likely need to reopen your claim since it was closed during the hearing process. The EDD representative can help with this when you reach them. The disconnection issue is unfortunately very common with EDD's phone system when call volume is high. Try calling right when they open at 8:00 AM, or in the last hour before they close.

Thank you for all this information! I had no idea I needed to contact Money Network separately. I'll try calling them tomorrow. So frustrating about having to reach EDD directly for those pending certifications. If they keep disconnecting me, I'll never get this resolved! I've already tried calling right at 8am but still no luck.

The system's definitely overwhelmed, but there are effective ways to reach them. I've found that calling on Wednesdays tends to have slightly lower call volumes. Also, try the 833-978-2511 number instead of the main line - sometimes it routes differently. Be persistent but also make sure you're choosing the right options in the phone tree - option 1, then 2, then 4 tends to get you to claims specialists faster.

I had a similar situation after my hearing in February. Let me save you some headaches with what I learned! After a hearing, EDD doesn't automatically update everything - the judge sends their decision to EDD, then EDD has to process it internally. This took about 12 days for me, but I've heard it can take up to 3 weeks. For those pending certification weeks, those will stay locked until you speak with someone. I wasted days trying to get through on the phone until I tried Claimyr (claimyr.com). It's a service that helps you get through to EDD without the constant disconnects. They have a video demo here: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km - worked really well for me when I was in your exact situation. Got through to an agent in about 25 minutes who unlocked my pending weeks. Regarding the Money Network card - mine took 12 business days to arrive. You can call them directly to check status or request expedited shipping if it's been more than 10 business days. And yes, you'll definitely need to reopen your claim if it was closed during the hearing process. Good luck!

is this claimyr thing legit? seems kinda sketchy to pay someone to call edd for you...

They don't call FOR you - they get you connected to an EDD agent through their system, then you talk directly to EDD yourself. Basically helps you skip the busy signals and disconnects. I was skeptical too but it worked when nothing else did.

Question: did you appeal a disqualification or was this hearing about something else? That makes a difference in how quickly they'll process updates to your claim afterward. Also, are the pending certification weeks from before or after your hearing date? That matters too. The standard EDD timeline after a hearing (if you won your appeal) is: - 7-14 days for the judge's decision to be processed by EDD - 3-5 additional days for payment processing if you're owed back payments - 7-10 business days for Money Network card delivery But here's the important part - you MUST call and speak with a representative to get those pending certification weeks released. They won't automatically become available even after winning an appeal. The system is incredibly frustrating by design. As for your claim closure, since it happened during the hearing process, they'll need to reactivate it once the hearing decision is processed. This is another reason you need to speak with someone directly. The disconnection issue happens when their call queue is full - they literally just hang up rather than have you wait. Pretty terrible system.

It was a disqualification appeal (they said I voluntarily quit but I was actually laid off). The pending certification weeks are from both before and after the hearing date. I'm not even 100% sure I won the appeal yet - the judge said I'd get the decision in the mail within 2 weeks but it's only been a few days.

Ah, that changes things. You need to wait for the official appeal decision before EDD will take any action. If you win the appeal, they'll remove the disqualification and process any back payments owed, but you'll still need to call about those pending certification weeks. If the decision isn't in your favor, you'll need to either file a second-level appeal or start a new claim depending on your situation. The timing varies significantly for disqualification appeals, could be 2-4 weeks for full processing after you receive the decision letter. The best thing is to keep checking your UI Online account daily for updates and keep trying to reach a representative by phone.

To answer your specific questions: 1. After a hearing decision (assuming it's in your favor), EDD typically takes 7-14 business days to update your claim status. This can be longer during busy periods. 2. For the Money Network card, first-time recipients usually get their cards 7-10 business days after the first payment is processed. If it's been longer, call Money Network directly at 1-866-320-8699. 3. About the pending certification weeks - you absolutely need to speak with an EDD representative to have these released for certification. They will not automatically become available, even after a favorable hearing decision. 4. Regarding your closed claim - yes, you'll need to have it reopened. This is something the EDD representative can help with when you reach them. For getting through on the phone, here are some tips: - Call the 833-978-2511 number (not the main 800 number) - Try calling Tuesday-Thursday between 8:15-8:45am or 1:30-2:00pm - When you do get through, be sure to ask them to release ALL pending certification weeks and to reopen your claim if the hearing decision was favorable Good luck!

My cousin had this same problem last month! I told him to set his alarm and call RIGHT at 8:00:00 am and he got through after only like 5 tries. Maybe try that?
