EDD payment stuck on pending after midnight certification - job search workshop impact?
I certified for my benefits literally the moment the system opened at midnight on Sunday, but my payment is still showing as 'pending' now 2 days later. Usually it switches to paid within hours when I certify that early. Has anyone else experienced delays this week? I'm worried because I have an upcoming mandatory EDD job search workshop scheduled for next Friday. Could this be affecting my pending status? I always thought these workshops only become an issue if you miss them, not before you even attend. Getting pretty anxious since rent is due next week and I was counting on this payment.

The pending status after certification has nothing to do with your scheduled job search workshop. Those workshops only affect your eligibility if you miss them without good cause. What's probably happening is that EDD is doing their quarterly review of claims right now (we're at the start of a new quarter in 2025). A lot of payments are delayed by 3-5 days during these review periods. I certified at 6am Sunday and mine is still pending too.

•Thanks for clarifying! I didn't realize they do quarterly reviews that could cause delays. That makes me feel better. I'll give it another day or two before I start really worrying then.

•its not random, if u got flagged for ANYTHING they hold ur payment. could be u answered a question differently, didnt report income, didnt do enough work searches, ANYTHING. they dont tell u why either u gotta call and wait 4 hours!!!

Pending payments this week are likely related to system maintenance EDD announced for their quarterly processing. From my experience, there's a specific pattern to these delays: 1. Claims certified between midnight and 3am often get caught in processing queues 2. Recent changes to your claim information can trigger review flags 3. First payment after a quarterly review typically takes longer Your job search workshop won't affect current payments - that's a separate compliance requirement. I'd recommend waiting until Thursday before trying to contact EDD about the pending status. About 75% of these delayed payments resolve automatically by then.

•This happened to my wife last quarter too! Went pending for almost a week then suddenly paid without us doing anything. EDD is weird.

If your payment is stuck on pending for more than 3 days, you really need to call EDD directly. I went through this last month and wasted 2 weeks waiting for it to fix itself. When I finally got through to a rep, they fixed it in 5 minutes - there was a flag on my account that I couldn't see online! I used Claimyr to get through to an EDD agent after being hung up on multiple times. Their service connected me to EDD in about 20 minutes instead of spending all day redialing. They have a demo video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km and their website is claimyr.com. Totally worth it to get my pending payment resolved quickly.

•I tried calling EDD 53 TIMES yesterday!!! Does this Claimyr thing really work? I'm desperate at this point, been pending for 9 days now...

•Yes, it worked for me! Instead of calling hundreds of times I just used their service and they got me in the queue. The EDD rep told me there was an identity verification flag that needed to be cleared manually.

EVERYONE IS WRONG HERE!!! the pending issue IS related to the job search workshop!!! I had the EXACT same thing happen in January. My payments got stuck on pending the week before my scheduled workshop. EDD rep told me they sometimes put a temporary hold on accounts with upcoming mandatory appointments. Its their way of MAKING SURE you attend the stupid workshop.

•This is incorrect information. I've worked as an UI claim specialist and can confirm that scheduled workshops do not trigger automatic payment holds. The system doesn't have this functionality. What likely happened in your case was a coincidental review that occurred around the same time as your workshop notification.

•Just checked and there's nothing new in my inbox. No alerts or action items either. That's part of why I'm confused - there's no indication of anything wrong.

This happens to me EVERY TIME I certify at midnight! The system gets overloaded with everyone certifying at the same time. I started waiting until Sunday afternoon to certify and haven't had a pending issue since. Weird but it works for me!

UPDATE: My payment just switched from pending to paid this morning! Looks like it was just a processing delay like some of you mentioned. Thanks for all the advice and reassurance. I'll still attend my job search workshop next week of course.

•Glad to hear it worked out! The job search workshops can actually be pretty helpful too - they showed me some resume tricks I hadn't thought of before. Good luck!
