EDD deposit delayed on holiday - will money still come today?

I usually get my EDD payment deposited around 11:00pm on Tuesday nights, but noticed today is Presidents' Day. My rent is due tomorrow and I'm starting to stress out. Will the Money Network card still process deposits on holidays or should I expect a delay until tomorrow? Has anyone received their payment today despite the holiday? I'm on regular UI benefits, not disability.

That's what I was afraid of. My landlord is already annoyed from last month when I paid late. Guess I'll have to call and explain.

Bank holidays always delay EDD deposits by one business day. This happens with every federal holiday throughout the year. Your payment is still being processed, but the ACH transfers don't go through on federal holidays when banks are closed. If you normally get paid Tuesday night, expect it Wednesday night instead. For future reference, you might want to check the federal holiday calendar at the beginning of the year and plan accordingly for those weeks when you know your payment will be delayed.

Thanks for the clear explanation. I should have planned better. Do you know if this affects when I need to do my bi-weekly certification too? Or is that unrelated to the payment schedule?

Your certification schedule remains the same regardless of holidays. The certification system is automated and runs 24/7, but the payment processing depends on the banking system which observes federal holidays. Always certify as soon as you're able to on your regular schedule.

I'm panicking about this too!!!! Certified on Sunday like always but no money yet and I have $14.58 in my account. Does anyone know if you can get a fee waiver if you explain to your landlord it's EDD's fault and not yours??? This is my third month on unemployment and I'm so stressed about everything.

Landlords don't care why you're late honestly. They've heard every excuse. Most will charge the late fee according to your lease agreement no matter what the reason is. Some might waive it once as a courtesy but don't count on it repeatedly.

If you need to reach EDD urgently about this or any payment issues, I'd recommend trying Claimyr. I was in a similar situation with delayed payments last month and couldn't get through the regular phone lines. Claimyr connected me to an actual EDD rep in about 20 minutes instead of spending days trying to get through. Their site is claimyr.com and they have a demo video at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km showing how it works. Saved me a ton of stress when I needed answers about a payment delay.

FYI - I just checked my account and my deposit actually DID come through tonight despite the holiday! It was about 3 hours later than usual (around 2am instead of 11pm), but it's there. Maybe check yours again?

Oh wow! Just checked and you're right - mine came through too! What a relief. Weird that it still processed on a holiday. Thanks for the heads up!

That's interesting. My understanding was that ACH transfers don't process on federal holidays, but it seems like EDD might have some special arrangement with their payment processor. Good news for everyone waiting for their funds!

this is why i always try to keep at least 1 weeks expenses saved even while on unemployment i kno its hard but these delays happen ALL the time with edd. theyve delayed my payments for like verification issues and holidays and "system maintenance" and all kinds of random stuff. cant trust them to be consistent

You're absolutely right. Once I get back on my feet I'm going to build up an emergency fund. This stress isn't worth it.

Wait I'm confused - are we talking about direct deposit or the Bank of America EDD debit cards? Because those are different systems. I think the old B of A cards sometimes processed on holidays but the new Money Network cards follow stricter banking hours. My brother has direct deposit to his credit union and I have the Money Network card and our payments always come at different times.

It's Money Network now, BofA cards aren't used for EDD anymore since last year. Everyone got switched over.

I have direct deposit to my regular checking account but it's still delayed. I think ALL payment types are affected by the holiday, not just the cards.
