EDD certification showing 'duplicate' for weeks - should I be concerned?
I've been certifying for my UI benefits through the EDD portal each week as usual, but this last time when I submitted for the weeks ending 02/25 and 03/04, the system flagged them as 'duplicate.' I'm confused because I definitely didn't certify for these weeks before - I keep careful track of my certification dates in my calendar. The status now shows as 'duplicate' instead of 'pending' or 'paid.' I'm worried this will delay my payment or worse, get me in trouble for supposedly double-certifying when I didn't. Has anyone dealt with this 'duplicate' message before? Should I just wait it out or do I need to contact EDD? I really can't afford any payment delays right now.

•Thanks for responding! Did you have to wait long to get through when you called? And did they resolve it quickly once you explained what happened?

This ALWAYS happens because their system is GARBAGE!! They expect us to certify on time but their website can't even handle basic functions! I've had this happen THREE TIMES since December and each time I had to waste HOURS trying to reach someone. Your best bet is to call first thing Monday morning at exactly 8:00am or you'll never get through!!!

•Yikes, sounds like a nightmare! Did you eventually get paid for those weeks that showed as duplicates? I'm starting to get really anxious about this.

•Yes I got paid but it took almost 2 weeks after I finally reached someone! And they never explained WHY it happened in the first place which is the most frustrating part!!!

When you see a 'duplicate' status, it usually means one of three things: 1. The system registered your certification submission twice due to a technical glitch (most common) 2. You accidentally certified for weeks that were already processed 3. There's a data error on EDD's end I recommend taking these steps: 1. First, double-check your payment history in UI Online to confirm if those weeks show up anywhere else 2. If they don't appear elsewhere, you should contact EDD to have them review the duplicate flag 3. While waiting, continue certifying for new weeks as they become available The duplicate flag won't get you in trouble if it was a system error, but you'll need to get it resolved to receive payment for those weeks.

•Thank you for the detailed explanation! I checked my payment history and those weeks definitely don't show up anywhere else. Looks like I'll need to contact EDD. I've heard it's nearly impossible to get through on the phone though...

I ran into this exact issue back in January! I spent four days trying to call EDD with no luck - kept getting the "we're experiencing high call volume" message. Finally used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to a live agent in about 20 minutes. The agent verified it was a system error and removed the duplicate flag. My payment processed the next day. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km The duplicate flag is actually pretty common when their system lags or glitches during submission - the representative told me they see this all the time.

•This sounds promising! I've never heard of Claimyr before. Did you feel the service was worth it? I'm desperate to get this resolved quickly.

•Definitely worth it for me. I had bills coming due and couldn't afford to wait weeks for the issue to maybe resolve itself. The EDD rep I spoke to said the duplicate flag doesn't automatically clear - you really do need to talk to someone to fix it.

wait i'm confused... are u talking about certification or claim? because edd only lets you certify every 2 weeks not every week. maybe thats why its saying duplicate?

•You're right that certification happens every two weeks, but each certification covers two individual weeks. OP is referring to the specific weeks that were covered in their bi-weekly certification. The system shows each week separately in the payment status even though you certify for both at once.

•ohhhh that makes more sense. thanks for explaining!

I would definitely contact EDD right away. Don't wait for this to resolve itself because 'duplicate' weeks don't automatically get fixed in my experience. I had something similar happen during my benefit year and when I finally reached someone, they told me I should have called sooner because the system was waiting for manual review. Don't make my mistake! The longer you wait, the further your payment gets delayed.

•Thanks for the advice! I'm going to try calling them tomorrow morning. How long did it take for your payment to come through after they fixed the duplicate issue?

•Mine took about 3-4 business days to switch from duplicate to paid status, and then another 2 days for the money to hit my Money Network card. So about a week total once they fixed it in the system.

This happened to me during my last certifications too! I actually took screenshots before and after submitting because I've had issues with EDD before. When I called (took me two days to get through), the rep said there was nothing wrong with my account and that the duplicate flag would clear itself in 48 hours. Well, it didn't. Had to call AGAIN and the second rep actually fixed it while I was on the phone. Make sure whoever you talk to actually resolves it instead of just telling you to wait!

UPDATE: I finally got through to EDD this morning after trying that Claimyr service someone mentioned. The agent confirmed it was a system glitch on their end - apparently their servers had some issues on the day I certified and a bunch of people got hit with duplicate flags. She removed the flag while I was on the phone and said my payment should process within 24-48 hours. Thanks everyone for your help and advice!

•Glad to hear you got it resolved! This is a pretty common issue with their system, especially during high-traffic certification periods. Smart move getting it addressed quickly instead of waiting.

•OF COURSE it was their system error!!! It's ALWAYS their error but WE have to waste our time fixing it!! So glad you got it resolved though!

Wow, this is such a relief to see your update! I'm actually dealing with the exact same issue right now - my certification for the weeks ending 03/11 and 03/18 just got flagged as "duplicate" yesterday. I was starting to panic because I know I didn't certify twice. Thanks for mentioning Claimyr - I'm going to try that service today since calling EDD directly seems like a nightmare based on everyone's experiences here. It's frustrating that this is such a common system error but at least there's a clear path to getting it fixed. Fingers crossed I can get through to someone quickly like you did!

•Hope you get it sorted out quickly! It's really reassuring to know that this duplicate flag issue is so common and that there are ways to resolve it efficiently. The fact that KaiEsmeralda got it fixed so fast with Claimyr gives me confidence that these system glitches, while annoying, aren't as scary as they initially seem. Keep us posted on how it goes for you!

I'm new to this community but dealing with unemployment benefits has been such a learning curve! Reading through this thread is incredibly helpful - it's reassuring to know that the "duplicate" flag is a known system issue and not something that will get us in trouble. I haven't experienced this specific problem yet, but I'm bookmarking this discussion in case it happens to me. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences and solutions, especially mentioning services like Claimyr for getting through to EDD faster. It's frustrating that we have to deal with these technical glitches when we're already stressed about finances, but at least there's a supportive community here to help navigate these issues!

This is exactly the kind of information I wish I had when I first started dealing with EDD! I've been fortunate not to encounter the duplicate flag issue yet, but after reading through everyone's experiences here, I feel much more prepared if it happens to me. It's amazing how a simple system glitch can cause so much stress when you're already dealing with financial uncertainty. The fact that KaiEsmeralda got it resolved so quickly with the Claimyr service is really encouraging - it shows that while EDD's system has issues, there are reliable ways to get help. I'm definitely saving this thread as a reference. Thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences and solutions!

•Absolutely agree! This thread has been a goldmine of practical information. I'm also new to dealing with EDD and the whole process can feel so overwhelming, especially when unexpected issues like the duplicate flag pop up. What really stands out to me is how quickly things can get resolved once you know the right steps to take - like using services such as Claimyr to actually reach a human being at EDD. It's frustrating that we need workarounds for basic customer service, but I'm grateful this community exists to share these solutions. I'm definitely bookmarking this discussion too, and it's reassuring to know that system glitches like this are more common than they initially appear. Thanks everyone for being so helpful to newcomers like us!

This thread is incredibly helpful! I'm dealing with a similar situation right now - just had my certification for last week flagged as "duplicate" even though I'm certain I only submitted it once. Reading through everyone's experiences here is both reassuring and informative. It's frustrating that EDD's system has these glitches, but knowing that it's a common technical issue and not something that will get us in trouble makes me feel much better. I'm going to try the Claimyr service that several people mentioned since calling EDD directly seems like it could take days. Thanks to everyone for sharing their solutions and experiences - this community is such a valuable resource for navigating these bureaucratic challenges!

•I'm so glad this thread exists too! I just joined this community after running into my first major EDD issue, and it's incredible how much practical knowledge everyone shares here. Your situation sounds exactly like what happened to KaiEsmeralda and others - it really does seem like these duplicate flags are more of a system bug than anything we're doing wrong. The fact that multiple people have had success with Claimyr gives me hope that there are actually reliable ways to cut through EDD's notorious phone system issues. It's such a relief to find real solutions from people who've been through the same frustrating experience. Wishing you luck getting it resolved quickly!

I just wanted to add my experience for anyone else who might run into this duplicate flag issue in the future. I had the same thing happen to me about a month ago - certified for my usual two weeks and suddenly saw "duplicate" status instead of "pending." Like others mentioned, it was definitely a system glitch on EDD's end, not anything I did wrong. I ended up using the online contact form through UI Online instead of calling, and surprisingly got a response within 3 business days. The representative explained that their certification system sometimes processes submissions twice during high-traffic periods, creating these false duplicate flags. They cleared it immediately and my payment processed the next day. So if anyone is having trouble getting through by phone, the online contact option might be worth trying too. Just make sure to include your specific certification weeks and explain that you only submitted once. It's such a relief to see this community helping people navigate these frustrating technical issues!
