EDD benefits expired after 2 layoffs this year - What are my options?

Hey everyone, I'm in a tough spot. My unemployment benefits just expired even though I've been laid off twice this year. Anyone else dealing with this? Any advice on what I can do to get some help or extend my benefits? I'm really struggling here and could use some guidance.

Man, that sucks. I've been there too. Have you tried calling EDD to see if you can file for an extension? Sometimes they have programs for people who've been laid off multiple times.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've been trying to call them for days but can't get through. It's so frustrating!

Pro tip: call right when they open. Like, set an alarm and everything. Sometimes you can get through faster that way.

Good idea, I'll give that a shot. Fingers crossed šŸ¤ž

Pro tip: call right when they open. I got through after only 30 minutes on hold that way.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work?

Yeah, it actually does. I was skeptical at first too, but I was desperate. Got through in about 2 hours instead of spending days trying to call myself.

$20 tho? That's kinda steep when ur already broke from unemployment šŸ˜¬

I get it, but for me it was worth it to finally talk to someone and get my issue resolved. Saved me days of stress and frustration.

Have you checked if you qualify for any other types of assistance? Sometimes there are local programs or nonprofits that can help when unemployment runs out. Might be worth looking into while you're trying to sort things out with EDD.

Natalie Adams

That's a good idea, I hadn't thought of that. Do you know any specific programs I should look into?

Check out 211.org - they have a database of local resources. Also, your county's social services department might have some options. Good luck!

Okay, let me break this down for you. I've been through this rodeo before, so here's what you need to know: ā€¢ First, don't panic. There are options, but you gotta be proactive. ā€¢ Check if you're eligible for a federal extension. These change, but it's worth looking into. ā€¢ File an appeal ASAP if you think there's been a mistake. You usually have 30 days from the date on your notice. ā€¢ Look into PUA (Pandemic Unemployment Assistance) if you're not eligible for regular UI. ā€¢ Consider applying for other benefits like food stamps or rental assistance to help bridge the gap. ā€¢ Keep job searching and document everything. Sometimes EDD wants proof you're looking for work. ā€¢ If all else fails, contact your local state representative. They can sometimes help push things through. Remember, the system sucks, but don't give up. Keep pushing and eventually you'll get through. Hang in there!

Here's what you need to do: 1. Check if you qualify for a benefit year extension. If you've earned enough wages since your initial claim, you might be eligible. 2. Look into Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) if it's still available in your state. 3. Consider applying for state disability insurance if you have any health issues. 4. Check out your state's workforce development programs. They often have resources for job training and placement. 5. Don't forget to apply for other assistance programs like SNAP (food stamps) or rental assistance if you're really struggling. Remember, the key is to be persistent and document everything. Good luck!

Have you checked if your state has any special programs for people who've been laid off multiple times? Some places have extra support for 'chronic unemployment' or whatever they call it.
