UI benefits ran out, need help extending. What to expect when calling EDD?
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle. My unemployment benefits have run out and I'm still struggling to find work. Has anyone gone through the process of extending their benefits? What should I expect when I call to ask about this? Any tips or advice would be really appreciated!

I've been there, buddy. When you call, make sure to mention that your current balance is zero and you need to explore options for extending benefits. Ask if you're eligible for a new claim or an extension. Have your past benefit statements and employment history ready - they might ask for those.

This is solid advice. I'd also recommend writing down your questions beforehand so you don't forget anything important during the call.

Quick question - do they usually ask for the employment history even if you haven't worked since your last claim? 🤔

In my experience, they might. It's better to have it handy just in case. Better safe than sorry, ya know?

Ugh, the whole system is so broken. I've been trying to get through for weeks and can't even talk to a real person. Good luck, OP. You're gonna need it. 🙄

Hey, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Anyone else tried it?

$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so messed up.

I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. After weeks of trying, I was desperate. It's worth it if you really need to get through.

Have you checked if you're eligible for PUA (Pandemic Unemployment Assistance) instead? Sometimes when regular UI runs out, you can switch to that program. Worth looking into!

I hadn't even thought about that! Thanks for the suggestion, I'll definitely ask about it when I call.

Pro tip: call right when they open in the morning. You're more likely to get through and the wait times are usually shorter. Also, be super nice to the person who answers - they deal with angry people all day and being kind can go a long way.

Here's a comprehensive guide for extending unemployment benefits: 1. Check your eligibility: Make sure you've exhausted your regular benefits and still meet the requirements. 2. Gather documents: Have your past benefit statements, employment history, and any job search records ready. 3. Know your options: Research if your state offers extensions or if federal programs are available. 4. Prepare for the call: Write down your questions and situation beforehand. 5. Be persistent: If you can't get through, keep trying at different times. 6. Appeal if denied: You have the right to appeal if your extension request is rejected. 7. Keep job searching: Continue to meet work search requirements while waiting for the extension. Remember, the process can be frustrating, but stay calm and don't give up. Good luck!

It's definitely frustrating, but at least there's some help available. Could be worse, I guess.

Has anyone had luck with the online portal? I've heard mixed things about trying to request an extension through the website vs calling.

I tried the online portal and it was a nightmare. Kept glitching out and losing my info. Calling worked better for me.

Online worked fine for me, but I think it depends on your specific situation. YMMV

Just a heads up, I heard they're implementing some new rules for extensions next month. Might want to check the official website for updates before you call.
