EDD automated system can't find claim after missed interview - certification blocked
Hey everyone, I'm in a super frustrating situation with my nephew's EDD claim. He had a scheduled phone interview with EDD last Tuesday, but the interviewer NEVER called him. We've been trying to deal with this mess ever since! Every time we check UI Online, the system is either 'down for maintenance' or just loads a blank page. We've called the main number like 30+ times but always get that annoying 'we're experiencing high call volume' message and it hangs up. Now things have gotten worse - when he tries to certify for his weeks, the automated system says it 'cannot find his information in the system.' It's like his claim has vanished! Has anyone dealt with something similar? What should we do next? He's got rent due next week and is seriously starting to panic. Any advice would be incredibly appreciated!

same thing happened to my daughter last month!! when the EDD interviewer didnt call they basically froze her account or something. we couldnt certify, couldnt see claim info, nothing. its like they delete you from the system when they miss THEIR OWN INTERVIEW. so stupid!!

•How did your daughter resolve it? Did you eventually get through to someone? It's making me crazy that they missed the interview and now we're the ones locked out!

This sounds like your nephew's claim has been flagged in the system. When an eligibility interview is missed (even when it's the interviewer who doesn't call), the system often puts the claim on hold pending resolution. This typically triggers a temporary removal from the certification system while they review the case. There are three things you should do immediately: 1. Submit a request for contact through AskEDD (https://askedd.edd.ca.gov/) - select "Unemployment Insurance Benefits" and then "Claim Questions" as your category 2. Send a message through UI Online (if you can get in at all) explaining the missed interview wasn't your nephew's fault 3. Try calling at exactly 8:01am when their phone lines open - that's when call volume is lowest If none of that works within 3 business days, he should contact his state representative's office. They have special EDD liaisons who can often resolve these issues quickly.

•Thank you so much for this detailed advice! We'll try AskEDD right away. The site wasn't working earlier but maybe it'll cooperate now. I didn't think about contacting his state rep - that's a great backup plan if we can't resolve this directly. Do you know if there's any way to request a new interview date?

•While AskEDD can be slow to respond, it's still important to create a documented trail of attempting to resolve the issue. This can be useful later if your nephew needs to appeal or provide evidence that he tried to address the problem promptly.

I've been through almost exactly this situation myself. When the interviewer doesn't call, the claim goes into a weird limbo state in their system. The most effective solution is speaking directly with a tier 2 specialist who can reset your nephew's claim status and schedule a new interview. After struggling to reach anyone for two weeks, I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got through to EDD in about 20 minutes. They have this system that navigates all those frustrating phone menus and calls back when they connect you to an agent. Saved me from losing my apartment honestly. They have a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km Once I got through, the EDD agent was able to see exactly what happened with my missed interview (it was never even assigned to an interviewer!) and fixed everything on the spot. Within 48 hours my certification was working again and payments started processing.

•does that service actually work? seems sketchy to me. no offense but anything that promises to get through to EDD sounds like a scam lol

•I was skeptical too, but it worked for me when nothing else did. The key is getting to a tier 2 specialist who has the system access to fix these weird technical issues. Regular tier 1 agents often can't even see what's happening with your claim when it's in this state.

THIS IS WHY I HATE THE EDD!!!! They do this ALL THE TIME!!! Set up interviews then never call, then punish YOU for THEIR mistake!!! I had FOUR interviews scheduled last year and they only called for ONE of them!!!! Each time my payments got stopped and I had to start the whole process over!!! The whole system is DESIGNED to make people give up!!!! 😡😡😡

•totally agree! they make it impossible on purpose so people just give up trying to get benefits they deserve

Here's what's likely happening technically: When an eligibility interview is missed for any reason, the EDD's system automatically places a "stop payment alert" on the claim. This temporarily removes access to certification until the issue is resolved. The fastest way to fix this is to get the alert removed by a claims specialist. To do this successfully: 1. Call the main EDD number (1-800-300-5616) 2. When prompted, choose the option for "existing claim" 3. When asked why you're calling, say "missed phone interview" 4. If asked for more details, say "need to reschedule eligibility interview" This specific sequence of responses will route you to the right department. Keep in mind that if you're calling on a Monday or Tuesday, wait times are typically 2-3 hours longer than other days of the week. Thursday afternoons tend to have the shortest wait times in my experience.

•This is incredibly helpful, thank you! We'll try calling with these exact prompts tomorrow morning. It's good to know there's a specific way to navigate their phone system to get to the right department. Fingers crossed we can get through before his rent is due.

•That's interesting - I didn't know you could just show up at an EDD office. Do you know if you need an appointment first? The closest one to us is about 45 minutes away, so that might be worth the drive if calling doesn't work out.

•no appointment! just show up early with ID and all your claim paperwork. they open at 8 i think

i had a similar problem where the EDD interviewer didnt call me but my situation was a bit different because I could still log in but couldnt certify. ended up being because my claim was flagged for ID verification again even though i already did id.me before. did your nephew complete all verification steps before this happened?

•Yes, he did the ID.me verification when he first applied about 2 months ago. Everything was fine until this missed interview. I wonder if something happened with his verification too? The whole system is so confusing.

Good news - it sounds like this is a fixable issue based on what you've described. If the automated system "can't find him in the system," this typically means one of two things: 1. The claim has been temporarily suspended pending the interview (most likely) 2. There's been an identity verification flag placed on the account In either case, once you speak with a representative, they should be able to resolve it fairly quickly. Make sure your nephew has his claim number, SSN, and any correspondence from EDD (especially the interview notice) available when you call. The good news is that once resolved, any back payments for certified weeks should be processed. The key is getting through to someone who can help, which is admittedly the hardest part of dealing with EDD.

•wait so if the EDD person doesnt call for the interview you still get backpay for those weeks? i thought you lose those weeks forever

NebulaNinja
•No, you don't lose those weeks permanently. When a scheduled interview doesn't occur (regardless of why), your claim is put on hold until the issue is resolved. Once resolved, you can certify for those past weeks and receive payment, though there may be a delay depending on how long it takes to fix the issue. This is why it's important to take action quickly to get the claim back on track.

UPDATE: After trying for 3 days, we finally got through to EDD! Using the phone prompts that were suggested plus calling right at 8:01am did the trick. The representative confirmed that because the interviewer didn't call, the system automatically flagged his account for review, which is why he couldn't certify. She rescheduled his eligibility interview for next Tuesday and removed the block on his account. He should be able to certify for his past weeks once the interview is completed. Thank you all SO MUCH for your help and suggestions! This community is amazing. 🙏

•That's great news! Make sure he's fully prepared for the interview with any documents they might ask for. Also, take notes during the call including the interviewer's name and ID number (they'll provide this). That way if there are any issues afterward, you have documentation of what was discussed and who you spoke with.

•Thanks for the tip! I'll make sure he writes everything down and keeps detailed notes. Fingers crossed this interview actually happens this time!
