EDD appeal hearing decision timeline - 2 months and still waiting?

Administrative Law Judge decisions are typically supposed to take 30-45 days, but there's been a significant backlog since late 2024. When I went through my appeal last year, it took exactly 53 days from my hearing date to receive the decision letter. If you win, they'll usually process your back payments within 10-14 days after the decision is finalized in their system. You can actually call the CUIAB (California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board) directly at 916-403-7200 to check on your appeal status instead of waiting for the mail. Have your appeal case number ready when you call.

My cousin got her desicion in like 3 weeks. Maybe they lost yours in the mail? The EDD always messes up everything tbh

I waited THREE AND A HALF MONTHS for my appeal decision last fall!!! It was absolute torture. And guess what? They ruled AGAINST me even though my employer didn't even show up to the hearing!!! The whole system is rigged to deny benefits. I filed a second level appeal with the CUIAB board but that's another 4-5 month wait according to my lawyer. Meanwhile I had to move in with my parents at 42 years old. So humiliating.

It takes forever they say 30 days but it's more like 60-90 from what I've seen lately... The whole appeal system is a mess right now. Good luck tho! hope u get good news soon

The current average wait time for ALJ decisions is 8-10 weeks due to the increased volume of appeals following the new eligibility verification system implemented in December 2024. If it's been 9 weeks, you're within the normal timeframe, though admittedly at the longer end. One important note: while waiting, make sure you're checking both your physical mail AND your UI Online inbox. Sometimes decision notifications are sent electronically before the physical mail arrives. Also, verify your mailing address is current in the system. If you win your appeal, backpayments typically begin processing within 5-10 business days. The money would arrive via whatever payment method you have set up (Money Network card or direct deposit).

when i had my appeal, i got the letter exactly 7 weeks after. it was right when i was about to call them too! hang in there, i bet yours is coming this week. anybody know if decisions always come on certain days of the week?

UPDATE: I called the CUIAB number this morning (thanks for that tip!) and they told me my decision was actually mailed out last Friday! Should arrive by tomorrow. They couldn't tell me what the decision was, but at least I know it's on the way. Will update when I get it. Fingers crossed!

FINAL UPDATE: Got my decision letter today - I WON!! The judge reversed the EDD's determination and found I was eligible for benefits! The letter says EDD has to process this within 10 days. Such a huge relief after months of stress. For anyone else waiting - definitely call that CUIAB number to check status, and definitely keep certifying every two weeks even while you wait!
