EDD account access nightmare with old AOL email vs new Gmail account

I'm having a complete meltdown with my EDD account access! I last claimed unemployment 14 years ago with my ancient AOL email (yes, I still have it, don't judge 😅). Just lost my marketing position last month after 8 years with the company, so I'm back filing for UI again. The problem: I applied for my new claim using my Gmail account, but somehow EDD is still sending claim forms to my dusty old AOL account that I barely remember how to access! When I try logging into UI Online with EITHER email, it's a disaster - either sending verification codes to the wrong email or giving me error messages about account verification. I can't check my payment status or certify properly because I'm stuck between these two accounts. Has anyone dealt with merging/transferring EDD accounts from an old email to a new one? I've tried calling but can't get through. This technology maze is worse than the actual job loss! Help!

ugh this happened to me but with yahoo! EDD's system is SO BAD with email management. you gotta call them to update your contact info, there's no way to fix this online. i spent 3 weeks trying before i finally got through to someone

3 WEEKS??? I can't wait that long! My rent is due next week and I need to certify ASAP. Did you just keep calling the main number over and over?

This is actually a common issue with EDD's system. They don't really have a concept of "merging accounts" - what's happening is your new claim is being associated with your old customer record in their database. Here's what you need to do: 1. Try to access your AOL account first - this is where your current claim information is, based on what you've said 2. Use the "Contact Us" form through UI Online once you're in (don't try calling yet) 3. Specifically request an email change on your account profile 4. They should send confirmation to both emails In the meantime, you CAN certify through the old AOL-linked account. Just focus on getting access to that one first, then worry about changing the email afterward. Don't create new registrations or accounts as this only complicates things.

Thank you! I managed to get into my AOL account (had to reset the password twice). I'll try the Contact Us form right now. I'm just worried about certification deadlines - my first certification is due this Sunday. Will they extend the deadline if I can't get this fixed in time?

I JUST went through this exact scenario last month! The EDD system is ridiculously outdated when it comes to account management. Here's what worked for me - I couldn't get in through Contact Us because it kept giving me errors. I tried calling for DAYS with no luck until I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com). They got me connected to an actual EDD rep within 25 minutes who fixed my email issue on the spot. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km The rep explained that when you have a previous claim on file, the system automatically pulls your old contact info even if you enter new info on the application. Only an agent can properly update it in their system. Once they fixed mine, I immediately got access to my UI Online account with my current email.

is this a real service? seems kinda sketchy to me. how much does it cost??

It's definitely real - I was skeptical too but was desperate after trying to call EDD myself for over a week. They basically connect you to an EDD rep when you can't get through the regular phone lines. Was worth it to finally get my account fixed and start certifying.

I can confirm this service works - used it myself back in January when my identity verification was stuck in limbo. But to address the original issue: You should definitely certify through whatever account currently works (AOL in this case) even while trying to fix the email problem. Missing certification deadlines will cause more problems than dealing with the wrong email temporarily.

Your problem is probably with your Customer Account Number (CAN). EDD's system assigns one CAN to each person, and it's tied to your SSN, not your email. When you created a new application with Gmail, the system recognized your SSN from your old claim but now you have conflicting access points. I work in HR and deal with this constantly with former employees. The fastest solution is getting through to an EDD representative who can: 1. Confirm your identity 2. Update your primary email 3. Merge your access points 4. Reset your UI Online access Don't try to create any additional accounts or profiles as this will only complicate things further. And definitely certify through whatever account is currently showing your active claim, even if it's linked to your old AOL.

You're right - I just managed to log in to the AOL-connected account and I see my claim is active there. Going to certify now and then work on fixing the email issue. This whole system is so frustrating!!!

when this happened to me i just gave up and kept using my old hotmail lol. EDD's website is from like 1995 anyway so it matches my vintage email 💀

LOL! I might end up doing the same. I just checked my old AOL and it had 1,247 unread emails going back years... what a blast from the past! 😂

Here's what's actually happening from a technical perspective: 1. EDD's database associates your SSN with your existing CAN (Customer Account Number) 2. When you filed a new claim with Gmail, the system recognized your SSN but created a conflict with email credentials 3. The system defaulted to sending communications to your original email (AOL) To resolve this: 1. Call EDD at 833-978-2511 (though getting through is difficult) 2. When connected, specifically ask for a "primary email update" and "UI Online credential reset" 3. Verify they're updating your email across ALL systems (claims, UI Online, and contact preferences) 4. Get confirmation numbers for all changes In the meantime, use your AOL account for all certifications to avoid payment delays. Email conflicts won't affect your benefit amounts or eligibility.

Thank you for this detailed explanation! I've been trying that number all morning with no luck. I did manage to certify through my AOL account though, so at least that part is working. I'll keep trying to get through to change my email.

my cousin works at edd and says they have over 10,000 cases of email conflicts EVERY MONTH!!! the system is completely broken and they know it. good luck getting this fixed before your claim ends lol

This is unfortunately true - their systems are not well-integrated. But it's still worth getting it fixed, especially for longer claims. The key is persistence and making sure you're speaking to the right department when you call. Ask specifically for the "Account Services" team, not general claims representatives.

UPDATE: I finally got through today using the Claimyr service someone suggested above. The EDD rep was able to update my email from AOL to Gmail across all their systems, and she explained exactly what happened - my SSN was linked to my old account info from 14 years ago! She said it would take 24-48 hours for all systems to update, but I already received a confirmation email to my Gmail. What a relief! And I was able to certify through the AOL account in the meantime, so my payments shouldn't be delayed. Thanks everyone for the help and commiseration. This system is truly from the dark ages!

Glad it worked out for you! Yeah, the EDD rep told me they're finally planning a system upgrade in 2026, but until then we're stuck with this patchwork system. At least you got it fixed!

Congrats on getting this resolved! For anyone else dealing with similar email issues, here's a tip I learned the hard way: If you have an old EDD account from years ago, ALWAYS try to access it first before creating anything new. The system will almost always default to your original contact info tied to your SSN, no matter what you enter on a new application. Also, while you're waiting for email updates to process, screenshot or write down your claim balance and certification dates from the old account - sometimes there's a brief period where you can't access either account during the transition. Better safe than sorry! Really glad the Claimyr service worked for you - might be worth the investment for others who are stuck in phone queue hell.

This is such great advice! I wish I had known this before I went through my own EDD nightmare. I made the mistake of creating multiple login attempts when I couldn't get into my old account, which just made everything more confusing. The screenshot tip is brilliant - I actually lost access to both accounts for about 3 days during my email transition and was panicking about missing important deadlines. Having that info written down would have saved me so much stress!

As someone who just went through a similar email mess with EDD last year, I'm so glad you got this resolved! The whole system is incredibly outdated - I couldn't believe they were still using technology that can't handle basic email updates without manual intervention. For anyone reading this thread who might face the same issue: definitely prioritize getting your current certification done through whatever account works, even if it's your old email. Missing those bi-weekly deadlines creates way bigger problems than having the "wrong" email address temporarily. Also, if you do use a service like Claimyr to get through to EDD, make sure to ask the rep to confirm that your email is updated in ALL their systems - apparently they have separate databases for different functions and sometimes the updates don't sync properly between them. I learned this the hard way when my email was updated for UI Online but not for important notices! The whole experience really makes you appreciate how much we take modern, integrated systems for granted. Hopefully that 2026 system upgrade someone mentioned actually happens! 🤞

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! This is exactly the kind of detailed advice that would have saved me days of stress. I'm definitely going to ask about the multiple database systems when I call to confirm everything is properly synced - that's such an important detail that I never would have thought to check. It's crazy that in 2025 we're dealing with government systems that feel like they're from the dial-up internet era! But at least there's a community here sharing solutions. Really appreciate everyone who contributed to helping me figure this out. 🙏

This thread is incredibly helpful! I'm dealing with a similar situation but with my old Yahoo email from 2008. Just filed a new claim last week and realized all my correspondence is going to an email I haven't checked in years. Reading through everyone's experiences, it sounds like the key takeaways are: 1. Access whatever account currently has your active claim (even if it's the old email) 2. Certify on time no matter what - don't let email issues delay payments 3. Either use a service like Claimyr or be prepared for many attempts calling EDD directly 4. Ask specifically for email updates across ALL their systems, not just UI Online @Mateo Rodriguez thanks for sharing your journey through this nightmare - it gives me hope that there's light at the end of the tunnel! Going to dig into my old Yahoo account tonight and see if I can get logged in. Has anyone had success with the "Contact Us" form method that was mentioned earlier, or does it really require a phone call to get this fixed properly?
