EDD SDI: New 4-digit PIN system - Tips for getting through?

Hey everyone, I'm trying to reach the EDD about my SDI claim. Has anyone dealt with their new system where you have to input a 4-digit PIN? I'm wondering if it's working smoothly or if there are any tricks to get through faster. Any experiences or advice would be really appreciated!

Yep, I've dealt with it. It's a bit of a pain, but it seems to be working okay. Make sure you have your PIN ready before you call, cause they won't let you do anything without it. Also, try calling early in the morning if you can - seems to be less busy then.

Early morning is key! I called at 8:01 AM and got through in like 10 minutes. 👍

Really? I tried calling at 8 AM sharp and still waited for an hour. 😩 Guess it depends on the day.

Yeah, it can be hit or miss. But still better than trying midday imo

I found a way to get someone on the phone without waiting forever. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the link: https://claimyr.com

Sounds too good to be true. How does it actually work? Is it legit?

$20? That's ridiculous. The EDD should be accessible for free. 🙄

I get the skepticism, but it seriously saved me hours of frustration. You just put in your number and they call you when an agent is on the line. Worth every penny for me.

Has anyone else tried this? Kinda desperate here but don't wanna get scammed 😬

@profile7 I was hesitant too, but it's legit. They have good reviews online if you wanna check.

The new system is a joke. I've been trying to get through for weeks. The PIN is just another hoop to jump through. 🤡 EDD needs to get their act together.

Here's what worked for me: 1. Call exactly at 8:00 AM 2. Have your PIN and all other info ready 3. If you get the 'too busy' message, hang up and redial immediately 4. Repeat step 3 until you get in the queue 5. Once in queue, DO NOT HANG UP no matter how long it takes It took me about 20 redials, but I finally got through. Patience is key. Good luck!

This is solid advice. Worked for me too after like 30 tries. You gotta be persistent!

20 redials? ain't nobody got time for that 😂

@profile11 lol I feel you, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do 🤷‍♂️

Has anyone tried using the online portal instead? I heard they updated it recently.

I tried, but kept getting error messages. Ended up having to call anyway. 😑

The online portal worked great for me! Way easier than calling. Give it a shot if you haven't already.

Pro tip: if you have a complex issue, try asking for a tier 2 specialist when you finally get through. They're usually more helpful and can actually make changes to your claim.

This! 💯 Tier 2 reps are the real MVPs

I just went through this last week! The 4-digit PIN system is definitely new but once you get used to it, it's not too bad. My advice: write down your PIN somewhere safe because they ask for it multiple times during the call. Also, I noticed that Tuesday and Wednesday mornings around 8:15 AM seem to have shorter wait times than Mondays. One thing that helped me was having my claim number, SSN, and PIN all written down before calling so I wasn't scrambling to find info while on the phone. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the tip about Tuesday/Wednesday mornings! I've been trying Mondays and it's been a nightmare. Definitely going to try mid-week next time. The PIN thing is so annoying but I guess we gotta adapt 🤷‍♀️

I've been dealing with the new PIN system for about a month now and here's what I've learned: First, make sure you're calling the right number - there are different lines for different issues and using the wrong one will just waste your time. Second, if you get disconnected after entering your PIN (which happens sometimes), don't panic - just call back and it should still recognize your info. Third, I've found that calling right after lunch around 1:30 PM actually works better than the morning rush - everyone tries to call at 8 AM so it's super congested. The PIN thing is definitely an extra step but it does seem to speed up the verification process once you're actually talking to someone. Stay persistent and don't give up!

This is really helpful! I never thought about trying the afternoon - I've been stuck in that 8 AM rush with everyone else. The tip about different phone lines is gold too. I've probably been calling the wrong number this whole time 🤦‍♂️ Thanks for sharing your experience!

Just wanted to add my experience with the new PIN system - I actually found it pretty straightforward once I figured out the timing. What really helped me was calling around 2:30 PM on Thursdays. Seems like most people don't think to call in the afternoon, so the wait times are way shorter. Also, make sure you have your PIN memorized or written down clearly because the automated system is pretty sensitive - if you mess up the PIN entry, it kicks you out and you have to start over. One more tip: if you're calling about SDI specifically, make sure you're using the SDI line (1-800-480-3287) and not the regular UI line. Saved me hours of frustration when I realized I was calling the wrong department. The new system isn't perfect but it's definitely more organized than the old one. Good luck everyone! 🍀

This is super helpful! The Thursday afternoon timing tip is something I haven't seen mentioned before. I've been banging my head against the wall trying to get through on Monday mornings. Also really appreciate the clarification about the different phone lines - I had no idea there were separate numbers for SDI vs regular UI. Definitely going to try the 2:30 PM Thursday slot next week. Thanks for taking the time to share all these details! 🙏
