How to check if SDI claim is active? EDD not answering calls
Hey everyone, I'm trying to check if my SDI claim is active. Has anyone had any luck getting through to EDD lately? I've been trying to call but no luck so far. Any tips or updates on how to check claim status would be really helpful!

Ugh, I feel your pain. I've been trying to get through to EDD for weeks now. Its like they dont even want us to get our benefits š Have you tried checking online? Sometimes the website has more up-to-date info than what you get on the phone (when you can actually get through

ā¢Yeah, I've tried the website but it's not showing any updates. Just says 'pending' which could mean anything š©

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

ā¢Sounds too good to be true. How does it actually work?

ā¢It's legit! You just put in your phone number, and they call you when they get an agent. Saved me hours of hold time.

ā¢I get the skepticism, but when you're desperate to talk to someone, that $20 feels worth it. Just sharing what worked for me š¤·āāļø

Pro tip: Try calling right when they open. I got through after only 20 minutes on hold last week. Good luck!

Have you tried emailing them? I know it sounds old school, but I actually got a response within a few days when I sent a detailed email about my claim issues.

ā¢Really? I didn't even know they had an email option. Do you have the address?

ā¢Sure! It's on their contact page, but here it is: edd.ca.gov.contact@edd.ca.gov

Okay, let me break this down for you. I've been dealing with SDI claims for years, and here's what you need to know: ⢠First, check your UI Online account. Sometimes the status updates there before anywhere else. ⢠If that doesn't work, try the automated phone system. It's not great, but occasionally it has info the website doesn't. ⢠Email is hit or miss, but worth a shot. Be super specific in your subject line. ⢠If all else fails, you might have to bite the bullet and wait on hold. Pro tip: use a landline if possible, cell signals can drop after hours on hold (learned that the hard way š) ⢠Keep a log of all your attempts to contact them. If there are any issues later, you can prove you've been trying. ⢠Lastly, check if your local assemblyperson's office can help. They sometimes have direct lines to EDD. Hang in there, the system is a mess but persistence usually pays off!

Anyone else feel like we need to start a support group for people dealing with EDD? š This whole process is driving me bonkers!

Have you checked your mail? Sometimes they send updates through snail mail that don't show up online. I know, it's like we're living in 1995 or something š

Just wanted to chime in as someone who's been through this nightmare recently. I actually had success using a combination of the strategies mentioned here. First, I tried calling right at 8am when they open (thanks @Nathaniel Mikhaylov for that tip!), but when that didn't work after a few days, I sent a detailed email to the address @Eva St. Cyr shared. In the email, I included my claim number, social security number, and a clear timeline of my situation. Got a response in 4 business days with my claim status. Also, don't sleep on contacting your local assembly member's office - they have caseworkers who can help navigate EDD issues. It's frustrating that we have to jump through so many hoops, but hang in there! The system is broken but there are ways to work around it.

ā¢This is super helpful! Thanks for sharing your experience @Ethan Wilson. I'm definitely going to try the email route first since that seems less frustrating than sitting on hold for hours. Quick question - when you emailed them, did you put anything specific in the subject line to get their attention?
