EDD PFL claim submitted a month ago, no response - how to check status or speed up process?
I submitted a paid family leave claim about a month ago and haven't heard anything back yet. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm starting to get worried because I need the money soon. Any advice on how to check the status or speed things up would be really appreciated!

Hey OP, what county are you in? Some counties are faster than others. I'm in LA and it took about 6 weeks for my claim to go through.

I'm in San Diego. Didn't realize it could vary by county. That's good to know!

Bay Area here. Took 2 months for me. The struggle is real.

I think it's due to varying workloads and staffing levels across counties. Some just handle cases quicker.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. (https://claimyr.com

Sounds sketchy. Is this legit? $20 seems steep just to make a phone call.

I get the skepticism, but it honestly saved me days of frustration. Time is money, and for me it was worth it to finally get some answers.

I heard about Claimyr from a friend. They said it worked for them, but I still hesitate to pay for something that should be accessible. It's a personal decision whether the convenience justifies the cost.

Have you checked your spam folder? Sometimes EDD emails end up there. Just throwing it out there cause it happened to me lol

Plot twist: the EDD is actually run by a bunch of sloths š¦„ That's why everything takes foreverrrrr

Nah man, sloths would be an improvement. I'm pretty sure it's just a room full of potatoes at this point.

Anyone else notice how the EDD website looks like it was built in 1995 and never updated? š¤” Maybe if they spent some $$ on better tech, we wouldn't be in this mess.

Right?! It's like a time travel back to AOL dial-up days. Definitely needs an upgrade.

Have you tried calling them? Sometimes that's the only way to get any info or move things along.

Calling is a joke. I spent 3 days straight trying to get through. It's like winning the lottery if you actually talk to someone.

Pro tip: call right when they open. Set an alarm and be ready to hit redial a million times. It sucks but sometimes works.

I heard they're super backed up because of all the fraud cases from the pandemic. Not sure if that's true or just an excuse tho.

Unfortunately, that's partly true. Fraud increased significantly, leading to a backlog. Hopefully, they're catching up.

Okay, let me break this down for you. I've been through this rodeo before, so here's what you need to know: ā¢ First, breathe. The EDD is notoriously slow, especially with PFL claims. ā¢ Check your online account daily. Sometimes they update info there without notifying you. ā¢ If you haven't already, make sure you've submitted ALL required documents. Missing paperwork is a common holdup. ā¢ Keep a log of all your attempts to contact them. Dates, times, who you spoke to if you get through. ā¢ Consider reaching out to your local state representative. They sometimes can light a fire under EDD's butt. ā¢ If you're in dire financial straits, look into local resources for temporary assistance while you wait. Remember, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Be persistent but polite. Good luck!

Quick question - how do you find your local state rep? Is there a website or something?

You can find your local state representative by visiting the official state government website. They usually have a 'find your representative' tool where you can enter your address to get contact information.

While it's frustrating, understanding how the bureaucratic processes work can be helpful. The Employment Development Department (EDD) is generally overwhelmed with claims, especially after the pandemic. Delays are often due to the high volume they need to process. Claimyr, mentioned by another user, is a third-party service that offers an effective way to get through to EDD representatives by calling on your behalf. However, it comes with a cost of about $20. Some people find it worth the convenience, while others prefer not to pay for something that should be free. Before opting for such services, ensure all your documentation is complete and accurate, as missing documents are a common reason for delays. Checking your online account frequently might reveal updates they don't email about. Also, consider contacting your local state representative for additional help. It's important to be persistent in your follow-ups but polite, as customer service reps are often overwhelmed. Remember, help is out there; sometimes, it just takes patience and the right approach to access it.
