EDD Money Network card transfer to external bank accounts - what's allowed?
I received my unemployment benefits on the EDD Money Network card last week but I really need to move the funds to my credit union checking account. I tried linking it through my online banking but it's not working. Does anyone know if we're allowed to transfer money from these EDD cards to non-Bank of America accounts? And if so, how do I do it? The instructions that came with the card weren't very clear about this. I don't want to do something that might cause problems with my claim.

Yes, you absolutely can transfer money from your EDD Money Network card to any personal bank account, regardless of the bank. I've done it multiple times to my Chase account. There are a few ways to do it: 1. Set up direct transfer through the Money Network mobile app or website (moneynetwork.com) 2. Use the card to withdraw cash at an ATM, then deposit to your credit union 3. Write yourself a Money Network check (if they provided the checkbook) The app/website method is easiest. Just log in, add your credit union account (you'll need routing and account numbers), and initiate the transfer. Takes about 2-3 business days to complete. No fees for the transfer.

•Thank you so much! I didn't realize the Money Network app was different from the Bank of America app - that's probably why I was confused. I'll download it and try setting up the transfer to my credit union today.

•Zelle has daily limits though, just be aware. I tried sending $2,000 once and it wouldn't let me do it all at once.

I tried doing this last month and had MAJOR issues. The Money Network website kept giving me error messages when linking my bank account. Customer service wasn't helpful AT ALL. I spent hours on hold just to be told to "try again later" 🙄 What finally worked was withdrawing at an ATM then depositing at my credit union. Annoying but at least I got my money. Make sure you know your PIN for the card!

•That sounds frustrating! Did you have to pay ATM fees? I'm worried about getting charged multiple times since I need to transfer about $3400.

Former EDD employee here - yes, transferring to external accounts is 100% allowed and won't affect your claim in any way. The Money Network card is YOUR money once it's been deposited. One important tip: if you're having trouble with the Money Network website/app, call the number on the back of your card specifically for customer service. The regular EDD reps can't help with card-specific issues. Also, there's a transfer limit of $5,000 per day, so plan accordingly if you have a large balance.

•Thanks for clarifying! I tried calling the number on the back of the card earlier but couldn't get through. Do you know if there are specific hours when it's easier to reach someone?

If your having trouble getting through to EDD or Money Network, try using Claimyr. I was in the exact same situation last month and couldnt get a human on the phone for days. Claimyr got me connected to a real person in like 10 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km The rep I talked to helped me troubleshoot the transfer issue right away. Worth it when ur desperate to move that money.

•I've been skeptical of these third-party services, but I did use Claimyr last year when my account was frozen and they actually did get me through to EDD quickly. Saved me from days of endless redialing. Is it still working well in 2025? The EDD phone system is somehow WORSE than it was during the pandemic!

Why not just use the card directly? I just use my EDD card for all my purchases and bills. Less hassle than transferring.

•My landlord only accepts checks or bank transfers, and most of this money needs to go toward rent. Plus I like having everything in one account for budgeting purposes.

IMPORTANT: Make sure you don't empty the card completely if you have pending certifications!! My friend left $0.00 on her card and when her next payment came through it got flagged for review because the system thought something was wrong with the card. Took her 3 weeks to sort out. Always leave at least $10 on there.

•This is actually a myth. I've fully emptied my card multiple times with zero issues. The Money Network and EDD payment systems are separate, and having $0 on your card doesn't affect future payments at all. EDD doesn't monitor your card balance.

•There's no fee to transfer from Money Network to your bank account using the online/app method. However, ATM withdrawals might have fees depending on which ATM you use (non-AllPoint ATMs charge a fee). You get 4 free ATM withdrawals per month at AllPoint ATMs - look for the logo or check the Money Network app for locations.

Just wanted to add that if you're having trouble with the Money Network app, make sure you're using the RIGHT app! There are multiple "Money Network" apps in the app stores and I downloaded the wrong one at first. Look for the one specifically by "Money Network Financial, LLC" - it has a blue and white logo. Also, when you set up the transfer, double-check your routing and account numbers. I made a typo the first time and it took 5 business days for the failed transfer to reverse back to my card. The second attempt went through perfectly in 2 days once I had the correct info. One more tip: screenshot your transfer confirmation! If anything goes wrong, customer service will ask for that reference number.

Just want to confirm what others have said - transferring from your EDD Money Network card to external banks is totally fine and won't impact your unemployment claim at all. I've been doing it for months without any issues. One thing I'd recommend is starting with a small test transfer first (like $50) to make sure everything works before moving your full balance. That way if there are any hiccups with account verification or routing numbers, you're not stuck waiting days for a large amount to potentially bounce back. Also, keep in mind that while the Money Network transfer itself is free, some credit unions charge a small fee for incoming ACH transfers (mine charges $1). Check with your credit union first so you're not surprised by any fees on their end. Good luck with the transfer! The Money Network app is definitely the easiest way to go.

•That's great advice about doing a test transfer first! I'm definitely going to try that. My credit union actually doesn't charge for incoming transfers, which is one of the reasons I want to move everything there. Thanks for mentioning that - I hadn't even thought to check about fees on their end.

One more option that hasn't been mentioned - if your credit union is part of the shared branching network, you can actually go to participating branches and withdraw cash directly from your EDD card at the teller window, then immediately deposit it into your account. This bypasses ATM withdrawal limits and fees entirely. I had to move $4,200 last month and this method worked perfectly. Just brought my EDD card and credit union debit card to a participating branch. The teller processed it as a cash advance from the EDD card, then I deposited the cash right into my credit union account. No fees, no waiting 2-3 days for transfers, and no daily limits to worry about. You can find participating branches on the shared branching website or ask your credit union which locations near you offer this service. Way faster than dealing with the Money Network app if you need the funds immediately!

•This is such a helpful tip! I had no idea about the shared branching option. My credit union is part of that network so this could save me a lot of time and worry about transfer delays. Do you know if there's a limit on how much you can withdraw as a cash advance from the EDD card in one transaction? I'm hoping to move about $3400 all at once.

I just went through this same process a few weeks ago! Here's what worked for me: 1. Download the official Money Network app (look for the blue/white logo by Money Network Financial, LLC) 2. Create your online account using your card number and the temporary PIN they mailed with the card 3. Go to "Transfer Money" and add your credit union account - you'll need your routing number and account number 4. Start with a small test transfer ($25-50) to make sure everything connects properly 5. Once that goes through (usually 1-2 business days), you can transfer the rest The whole process was surprisingly smooth once I found the right app. I was worried it would be complicated but it's actually pretty straightforward. The Money Network customer service line (number on the back of your card) is also much more helpful than regular EDD phone support if you run into any issues. One heads up - there's a daily transfer limit of $5,000, so if you have more than that you'll need to do it over multiple days. But for most people that shouldn't be an issue. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions about the process.

•This is exactly the step-by-step guide I needed! I was getting overwhelmed by all the different suggestions, but your approach sounds really manageable. I like the idea of doing a test transfer first - that makes me feel much more confident about the process. Quick question: when you set up your credit union account in the Money Network app, did you have to wait for any kind of verification process, or were you able to initiate the test transfer right away? I'm hoping to get this sorted out this weekend so I can pay my rent on time next week.
