EDD ID.me verification stuck - ID document confused with driver's license during video call

I'm having the worst time with my daughter's ID.me verification for her EDD claim! We started the application process last week and had to do the ID.me verification. During the video call, the agent said we incorrectly listed her California ID card as a driver's license. My daughter was flustered and just said 'ok' and hung up without getting clear instructions. Now we're completely stuck in this verification loop! The link they sent us after the failed video call is demanding we provide ANOTHER document besides what we already uploaded (CA ID card, birth certificate, and social security card). According to their own rules, one primary ID + two secondary documents should be sufficient, right? The problem is my daughter doesn't have any of the other documents they're asking for - no utility bills in her name, no mortgage statement, nothing else on their list. Every time we try to continue, it forces us to select another document type before proceeding. I've tried looking for a way to restart the whole verification process, but the link just keeps taking us back to the same screen asking for additional documents! Is there any way to just cancel everything and start over with the correct document types? Or can we reach someone at ID.me who can manually review what we've already submitted? This is so frustrating! 😡

This is actually a really common issue with ID.me! The good news is you don't need to start completely over. Your daughter needs to log back into her ID.me account directly (not through the EDD link) and edit her document information. There should be an option in her ID.me account settings to correct the document type from driver's license to CA ID. After she makes that change, she'll need to schedule another video call. Make sure to have all three documents ready again (CA ID, birth certificate, and SS card). You're right that one primary + two secondary documents is the standard requirement. The system is just confused because the document type was entered incorrectly. One more tip: have your daughter answer all the verification questions herself during the video call - the referee needs to hear answers directly from her even if you're helping with the technical aspects.

Thank you so much! I'll try logging into her ID.me account directly. We didn't even think of that - we kept using the link from the email. I really hope we can edit the document type like you suggested. Will let you know if it works!

It's so awful! Did you eventually get it resolved? I'm worried my daughter's claim will be delayed for weeks because of this stupid document confusion. 😩

The whole ID.me verification system is DESIGNED to be confusing and trip people up! I've seen hundreds of cases like yours in my job helping people with claims. Here's what's happening: When the referee saw you had a CA ID (not a driver's license) but it was entered as a DL in the system, that triggered a flag. Now the system thinks you're trying to verify with incorrect documents. DON'T restart the whole claim! That creates even bigger problems. Instead: 1. Call ID.me support directly at 844-778-4363 2. Explain EXACTLY what happened with the document confusion 3. Ask them to reset JUST the verification portion 4. Be prepared to wait - their hold times are ridiculous Also - your daughter DOES have enough documents. The CA ID is primary, and birth certificate + SS card are valid secondaries. You don't need a utility bill or anything else. They just need to correctly categorize what you already submitted.

Thank you for the detailed explanation! I was about to give up. Will try calling that number today. I'm relieved to hear we don't need additional documents. The system made it seem like we were missing something crucial.

If you're still having trouble after trying the suggestions above, you might want to check out Claimyr (claimyr.com). I was in a similar situation with my ID.me verification and couldn't get through to anyone at EDD to help straighten it out. Claimyr got me connected to an actual EDD agent who could see what was happening with my claim and helped resolve the ID.me issue on their end. They have a video demo that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km Basically they help you bypass the phone queue so you can actually talk to someone who can fix these kinds of technical issues. Saved me weeks of waiting.

Thank you for this recommendation! I'll keep it as a backup option if the direct ID.me support doesn't work out. It's good to know there are services that can help if we get completely stuck.

I used Claimyr too when I was stuck in verification hell. Worth every penny. Just make sure when you get connected that you specifically ask for a tier 2 specialist who can handle ID verification issues. The regular agents often can't help with ID.me problems.

I work at an America's Job Center and see this issue ALL THE TIME with ID.me. Here's what's actually happening: ID.me uses document classification in their system. When you incorrectly classified the CA ID as a driver's license, their system now requires you to provide the "missing" document type (which is actually the correctly classified CA ID). You have two options: 1. Call ID.me directly at 844-778-4363 and ask for a verification reset. Be very clear that this was a document CLASSIFICATION error, not missing documents. 2. Create a brand new ID.me account with a different email address (this is actually allowed) and start fresh with the correct document classifications. Option 1 is better but can take time to reach someone. Option 2 is faster but slightly more complicated. And yes, one primary + two secondary documents is sufficient according to both ID.me and EDD requirements. Your daughter has all the required documentation.

This explanation makes perfect sense! We'll try calling ID.me first, and if that doesn't work, we might try the new account approach. I really appreciate you explaining the classification issue - now I understand why the system keeps asking for more documents!

100% THIS! The system is DESIGNED to create barriers. I've helped dozens of people with EDD claims, and these "technical errors" always seem to happen at the verification stage. Makes you wonder if it's intentional to reduce the number of approved claims... 🤔

It sure feels that way sometimes! We're just trying to get legitimate benefits, but the process makes you feel like you're doing something wrong.

Just checking back - were you able to resolve this issue? The suggestion to login directly to ID.me (not through the EDD link) usually works for these document classification problems.

Yes! We finally got it resolved. You were right about logging into ID.me directly. We were able to modify the document type from driver's license to CA ID, then scheduled another video call. The referee approved everything right away once the documents were properly classified. My daughter's claim status finally changed from "pending verification" to "processing" today. Thank you all for the help!
