ID.me verification nightmare - DEO account locked after multiple attempts
I'm at my wits end with this ID.me verification for DEO! Been trying for 3 days straight, submitted my driver's license and selfie AT LEAST 9 times but keep getting rejected. Each time it says 'verification unsuccessful' with no explanation why! My rent is due next week and I haven't received a payment in over a month because my account is locked until this verification goes through. Has anyone actually managed to get through this process? The worst part is I can't even get a live person on the video verification option - I've waited in the 'virtual line' for HOURS yesterday and today and nobody ever connects. My CONNECT account just shows 'Action Required - Identity Verification Needed' and I can't access any of my claim information. I'm seriously panicking and don't know what to try next. Any help would be LIFESAVING at this point!!!

I just went through this nightmare last month. The trick with ID.me is lighting and background. Make sure you're in a well-lit room with a plain background for your selfie. Also, if your license is even slightly damaged or has glare, it'll reject it. Try using a different device too - my phone kept failing but laptop camera worked first try. If all else fails, you NEED to use the video chat verification option, but you have to be ready to wait. I got in line at 6AM and finally got through around 10AM. Evening hours are impossible.

•Thank you SO MUCH for the tips! I didn't even think about the lighting. My apartment is pretty dark and I've been trying from my bathroom (only place with decent lighting). I'll try setting up near the window tomorrow morning. I tried video chat verification but gave up after 2.5 hours yesterday...didn't realize the wait could be 4+ hours! Will try again at 6AM like you suggested.

thats why i always tell people to KEEP PAPER COPIES of all ur stuff!!! the whole system is designed to make u give up. my cousin had same problm and ended up having to go to the library to use their scanner to upload his passport instead of drivers license. worked first try.

•I don't have a passport but I do have my birth certificate. Wonder if that would work instead? The instructions only mentioned driver's license or state ID though...

I work at CareerSource and see clients struggle with ID.me verification daily. Here's what you need to know: 1. ID.me accepts Driver's License, State ID, Passport, or Passport Card. Birth certificates won't work for the initial verification. 2. The lighting issue is real - make sure there's no shadow on your face or glare on your ID. 3. If you fail verification 3+ times, the system may put a 24-hour hold before allowing more attempts. 4. For video verification, weekday mornings (6-8AM) have the shortest wait times. Weekends and evenings can be 5+ hours. 5. Once verified, it can take 24-48 hours for your CONNECT account to update and unlock. If none of this works, you can visit any CareerSource office in person and we can assist with alternative verification methods.

•This is incredibly helpful information! I had no idea about the 24-hour hold after multiple failed attempts - that explains a lot. I'll try again with better lighting and if that fails, I'll head to CareerSource. There's one about 20 minutes from me. Thank you so much for explaining all this!

OMG I'm dealing with the EXACT same thing right now!!! So frustrating!! Been trying for days and it just keeps saying "we couldn't verify your identity" like WHAT does that even mean?!? Let me know if anything works for you!

•It's the worst feeling ever! I'll definitely update here if I get through. Gonna try again tomorrow morning with better lighting and if that doesn't work, try the video verification super early. Good luck to you too!

The DEO's verification system is deliberately broken to reduce claim numbers. I spent WEEKS trying to get through ID.me last year. What finally worked was getting a REAL PERSON on the phone at DEO who could override the system. Good luck calling their regular number though - busy signals and disconnects all day long. I finally used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an actual agent in about 30 minutes instead of days of trying. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj The agent was able to see that my account was flagged for "verification issues" and manually cleared it while I was on the phone. My account was unlocked the next morning.

•does this actually work? seems weird to use a service just to make a phone call but ive been trying to call deo for like 2 weeks and cant get through

•Yes, it actually worked for me. I was skeptical too but was desperate after trying for almost 3 weeks to get through on my own. The DEO phone system is completely overwhelmed, and they don't have enough staff to handle all the calls.

•I've never heard of this service before but at this point I'm willing to try anything. If the ID.me attempts don't work tomorrow I might give this a shot. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Went through this exact situation in January and it nearly ruined me financially. The ID.me system is horrible. After countless failed attempts, what finally worked was: 1. Using my partner's iPhone instead of my Android (no idea why this mattered) 2. Taking the photos outside in natural light 3. Using a white wall as background 4. Making sure my license was perfectly flat with zero glare It's ridiculous how picky the system is. Also make sure your address on file with DEO exactly matches your ID - even slight differences can cause rejections. Once I got verified, it still took DEO 5 days to unlock my CONNECT account. I had to call repeatedly to get them to process it faster.

•Thank you for these specific tips! I've been using my Android phone so maybe that's part of the problem. I'll borrow my roommate's iPhone and try outside tomorrow. Did you have to do anything special after getting verified through ID.me to make sure DEO knew? Or does it automatically update in their system?

•It's supposed to update automatically, but in my experience, it doesn't always happen quickly. After I got verified through ID.me, I took a screenshot of the confirmation page and then called DEO to let them know. The first agent said they could see the verification but it needed to "process" - whatever that means. I called again two days later and that agent manually updated my account status.

My cousin works for DEO (not posting which office for obvious reasons) and she says the ID.me system has been having major technical issues since February. They're aware of the problems but there's no timeline for fixing it. She recommends: 1. Try a DESKTOP computer if possible instead of mobile 2. Clear your browser cache before starting 3. If you fail 3 times, wait 48 hours (not 24) before trying again 4. If you use the video verification, have TWO forms of ID ready even though they only ask for one initially Good luck! The system is frustrating but persistence usually wins eventually.

•This is super helpful insider info! I didn't realize there were known technical issues since February - that makes me feel a little better that it's not just me doing something wrong. I'll definitely try from my desktop instead of my phone. Thank you!

Quick update for you - just wanted to mention that while you're working through this ID.me nightmare, make sure you're still claiming your weeks on time if possible. Even with your account locked, you should be able to access the "Claim Weeks" function. If you miss claiming weeks, you might lose those benefits permanently. Also, document EVERYTHING. Take screenshots of error messages, keep notes of all verification attempts with dates/times, and get the names of any DEO representatives you speak with. This will be vital if you need to appeal or request backdating of your claim later.

•Oh no, I didn't realize I could still claim weeks with a locked account! I thought I had to wait until everything was verified first. I'm going to try to access that section right now. It's been almost 2 weeks since I last claimed, so hopefully I haven't missed too much. Thank you so much for this critical info!

Same thing happened to me and I found out my drivers license was expiring soon (within 60 days) and the system kept rejecting it for that reason! Check if your ID is close to expiration date.

•I just checked and my license is good until 2027, so that's not the issue. But thanks for pointing this out - might help someone else reading this thread!

I'm going through the exact same nightmare right now! Been stuck in ID.me verification hell for over a week. What's really frustrating is that the error messages are so vague - just "verification unsuccessful" with zero explanation of what's actually wrong. One thing I discovered that might help - if you're using Chrome, try switching to Firefox or Safari. I read somewhere that ID.me has compatibility issues with certain browser versions. Also, make sure you're not using any browser extensions that might interfere with the camera or photo upload. Another tip from my research: make sure your full legal name in your DEO account matches EXACTLY what's on your ID, including middle names or initials. Even tiny discrepancies can cause rejections. I'm planning to try the desktop approach tomorrow morning with natural lighting like others suggested. This whole system is absolutely broken and it's devastating that our basic survival depends on getting through this mess. Hang in there - from what I'm reading here, persistence eventually pays off for most people!

•Thank you for mentioning the browser compatibility issue! I've been using Chrome this whole time and didn't even think about that. I'll definitely try Firefox tomorrow when I attempt again. Also really good point about the name matching exactly - I think mine might have my middle initial in DEO but my full middle name on my license. That could totally be causing issues! It's so maddening that they don't tell you what's actually wrong. Really appreciate you sharing what you've learned through your research. Hope we both get through this soon!

•Yes, the browser thing could definitely be part of the problem! I've been using Chrome too and didn't even consider that might be causing issues. I'm going to try Firefox first thing tomorrow morning. And you're absolutely right about the name matching - I just logged into my CONNECT account to check and I think I have my middle initial listed there but my full middle name is on my driver's license. That tiny difference could be exactly what's causing all these rejections! It's ridiculous that they don't give you any specifics about what went wrong. Thank you for doing all that research and sharing it - this gives me some actual concrete things to try instead of just randomly uploading the same photos over and over. Crossing my fingers we both get through this nightmare soon!

I went through this exact same ID.me nightmare about 6 months ago and it was absolutely devastating. After failing verification probably 15+ times, here's what finally worked for me: 1. Used a different device entirely - borrowed my neighbor's iPad instead of my phone 2. Made sure my face was completely centered in the selfie frame 3. Held my ID at a slight angle to avoid any glare from overhead lights 4. Most importantly - I discovered my CONNECT account had my nickname "Mike" but my driver's license shows "Michael". Once I updated my DEO profile to match my legal name exactly, it worked on the first try. The video verification is a complete joke - I waited 6 hours one day and never got connected. Don't waste your time with that unless you literally have nothing else to do. Also, once you do get verified, check your CONNECT account every few hours because sometimes the system doesn't update automatically. I had to call DEO and specifically ask them to "refresh" my verification status. The whole system is designed to make people give up, but don't let them win. Your benefits are rightfully yours. Keep pushing through - you WILL get there eventually!
