ID.me rejecting my documents for NY unemployment - funds on hold
I'm at my wit's end with ID.me for my NY unemployment claim! I've submitted my driver's license and social security card THREE times and they keep rejecting them saying 'documents unclear' but they look perfectly fine to me. My payments have been on hold for 2 weeks now and I've got rent due next week. Has anyone managed to actually speak to a human at ID.me? Their chatbot is useless and just keeps telling me to resubmit. Is there a phone number that actually works? I'm desperate here.

•I've tried different lighting, different backgrounds, everything. Still getting rejected! Did you ever talk to an actual person there?

ID.me verification issues are super common with NY unemployment claims right now. I had the exact same problem last month. For document photos, make sure you're: 1. Using a plain white background 2. Taking photos in natural daylight (not lamp light) 3. All four corners are visible 4. No glare or shadows 5. No fingers visible in the photo Also, their system gets overwhelmed around the 1st and 15th of the month, so try submitting late at night or very early morning.

•Thanks for the tips! I've done all those things except maybe the timing. I'll try submitting at like 2am tonight. But is there ANY way to speak to an actual human there? I feel like I just need someone to look at my case.

I HATE ID.ME SO MUCH!!!! They rejected my docs 6 TIMES before finally accepting them. The system is BROKEN! And NY unemployment doesn't care at all that we're stuck without money because of their stupid verification system. It's all by design to make it harder to get benefits we DESERVE!!

After struggling with ID.me for my NY unemployment verification for almost 3 weeks, I finally got through to a real person by using their video verification option. Don't waste time with the document upload - go straight to the "Verify your identity in a video call" option on their website. The wait time was about 45 minutes for me but at least I got it resolved in one session. Alternatively, I've heard people having success getting through to NYSDOL directly using Claimyr.com to bypass the phone wait times. There's a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE - might be worth trying if you need to speak with someone about getting your account unlocked once ID.me is sorted.

•THANK YOU! I didn't even know there was a video call option. I'll try that today. And I'll check out Claimyr if I need to talk to NYSDOL after. Hopefully this gets resolved soon - I really need those payments released.

I work in benefits assistance, and ID.me issues are currently the #1 problem for NY unemployment claimants. Some technical details that might help: 1. ID.me has a specific video verification option that bypasses document verification completely 2. For fastest service, try video verification between 8am-10am ET 3. You'll need two forms of ID ready for the video call 4. Once verified, payments typically release within 48-72 hours After verification, NYSDOL still needs to process the release. If payments don't resume within 3 business days after successful ID.me verification, you should contact NYSDOL directly to confirm there are no other issues with your claim.

•This is incredibly helpful, thank you! I've scheduled a video verification for tomorrow morning at 9am. Fingers crossed this resolves it.

So when I had this problem in January, I spent 3 days trying to upload documents before giving up and trying the video chat. But even then I was stuck in a 2 hour queue before it disconnected me! What actually worked was finding their social media support on Twitter (now X). I DM'd them my case details and got a response within a few hours. They escalated my case and had me verified by the next day. Much faster than any other method I tried!

•That's a smart idea! I'll try the video verification first thing tomorrow, but if that doesn't work I'll definitely try the social media route. Thanks for the tip!

I had the same issue last year with my NH unemployment but I think ID.me works the same everywhere. The thing that I learned is that it's not really about the quality of the photos as much as making sure ALL the information is clearly visible. Like the ENTIRE document needs to be in frame, even the little tiny print at the bottom that nobody ever reads. And make sure the doc isn't expired! That was my problem and they never actually told me that was why they were rejecting it lol

•My license is definitely not expired, but I do wonder if I'm cutting off some small print. I'll double check that when I scan them again. Thank you!

Just want to follow up - did you try the video verification option? Were you successful? Many people don't come back to update, but it really helps others who find this thread later with the same problem.

•Yes! The video verification worked! I had to wait about an hour, but once I got connected to a representative, the whole process took less than 10 minutes. They verified my identity on the spot and my NY unemployment payments were released two days later. Definitely recommend the video route over document uploads for anyone else having this issue!

Glad to hear the video verification worked for you! I'm dealing with the same issue right now - been waiting 3 weeks for my documents to get approved through the upload method. Just scheduled my video call for tomorrow morning after reading all these helpful tips. It's ridiculous that we have to jump through so many hoops just to get our own unemployment benefits, but at least there seems to be a solution that actually works. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences!
