Applying for SDI - What documents do I need? Any tips?

Hey everyone, I'm in the process of applying for disability and I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed. Has anyone gone through this recently? What documents did you need to gather? Any tips or advice would be really appreciated!

I found a way to solve disability application document requirements, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_AjEA-m-PeY

I just went through this last month! It can be a real headache, but hang in there. Here's what I needed: - Medical records from all your doctors - Work history for the last 15 years - List of all medications - Contact info for all your healthcare providers - Recent pay stubs or tax returns - Birth certificate and Social Security card Make sure you have everything organized before you start the application. It'll save you a ton of time and stress. Good luck!

Thank you so much! This is super helpful. Did you have any trouble getting all your medical records?

It took some time, but most doctors' offices were pretty cooperative. Just start requesting them ASAP because it can take a few weeks to get everything.

Don't forget to make copies of EVERYTHING before you send it in! The disability office is notorious for 'losing' documents 🙄

ugh, i'm in the same boat. been trying to get through to someone on the phone for days. its impossible!

I feel you! The phone system is a nightmare. I found a way to get through tho. There's this site called claimyr.com that has a calling tool. It dials the menu, stays on hold, and then connects you when a real person picks up. Costs $20 but it worked for me. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

for real? that sounds too good to be true. has anyone else tried this?

I was skeptical too, but I gave it a shot last week. It actually worked! Saved me hours of hold time.

Yeah, I get the skepticism. I was desperate when I tried it. But it's legit. Just sharing what worked for me 🤷‍♂️

Pro tip: if you can, get a lawyer. They know all the ins and outs and can really increase your chances of approval. It's worth the investment.

Anyone else feel like the whole system is designed to make us give up? 😤 It's like they WANT us to fail.

Preach! 🙌 I swear they make it complicated on purpose. Stay strong tho, don't let them win!

It's all about saving money for the government. They hope people will just give up and go away. Don't fall for it!

Quick question - does anyone know if mental health conditions are treated differently in the application process? Asking for a friend...

They can be trickier to prove, but they're definitely valid reasons for disability. Make sure you have thorough documentation from a psychiatrist or therapist.

I got approved for PTSD, so it's definitely possible. Just be prepared for a potentially longer process and maybe consider getting a lawyer to help.

DONT FORGET TO APPEAL IF YOU GET DENIED! A lot of people give up after the first rejection, but many cases get approved on appeal. Keep fighting!

Oh wow, I didn't know that. How long does the appeal process usually take?

0 coins

It can take a few months, sometimes up to a year. But it's worth it if you really need the benefits. Just make sure you file the appeal within 60 days of your denial!

Thanks for starting this thread, Liam! I went through the SDI application process about 6 months ago and it was definitely overwhelming at first. One thing I'd add to the great advice already shared - make sure you're applying for the right program. SDI (State Disability Insurance) is different from SSDI (Social Security Disability). SDI is for short-term disabilities and you need to have paid into the system through payroll deductions. The good news is SDI applications are usually processed faster than federal disability claims. Also, don't be discouraged if you need to provide additional documentation - it's totally normal for them to request more info. You've got this! 💪
