Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a situation and could use some advice. I was laid off a couple years back and have been self-employed since then. Recently, my partner and I welcomed a newborn into our family. I'm wondering if I might still be eligible for SDI or paid family leave, given my employment history. Has anyone been through something similar or know how this works? Any insights would be really appreciated!
Hey everyone, I had a phone interview about my unemployment extension about 2 weeks ago. They said they'd review my claim, but I haven't heard anything back yet. Anyone know how long it usually takes to get an update on the renewal status? I'm getting a bit anxious here.
I heard they're super backlogged bc of all the fraud cases they're dealing with. Might be why it's taking so long for legit claims too.
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle here. I filed for disability due to maternity leave a while back, and I haven't received any payments in quite some time. I'm starting to get really worried about my financial situation. Has anyone else experienced long delays with their disability payments? Any advice on how to check the status of my claim or speed up the process would be greatly appreciated!
Have you tried reaching out on social media? Sometimes tweeting at the official EDD account can get their attention. Worth a shot!
Hey everyone, I'm dealing with a frustrating situation with EDD and BOA. My dad had unemployment funds in his BOA account, but when EDD switched to Money Network, they told everyone to withdraw their money. Problem is, BOA locked his account for no reason, and he can't get his funds out. We've been to BOA in person multiple times to verify his identity, but they keep giving us the runaround. We finally got transaction statements, and it looks like EDD took the money back! We've called EDD, but they're not resolving anything. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any advice on how to get a status update or actually talk to someone who can help?
have u tried going karen on them? sometimes u gotta be the squeaky wheel to get the grease ๐คทโโ๏ธ ask for supervisors, threaten to go to the media, make a scene (politely) at the bank. it sucks but sometimes it works
This is why we need a complete overhaul of the unemployment system. It's a joke that people have to jump through so many hoops just to get the benefits they're entitled to. Sorry you're dealing with this, OP.
Has anyone else had their unemployment funds taken away by the EDD without any notice? My dad just found out that the money he had in his Bank of America account from unemployment benefits was taken back by the EDD. We never received any letter or explanation about why this happened. We're trying to figure out how to get a statement and what the process is for claiming those funds back. We talked to a rep but they couldn't resolve the issue. Any advice?
I wonder if this is related to that big fraud case from last year? Maybe they're doing some kind of audit?

have you considered setting up an LLC and paying yourself as an employee? might be a way to get back into the system for future benefits. just a thought ๐ญ

AuthorInteresting idea! I'll have to look into the pros and cons of that. Thanks for the suggestion!
