I had the exact same issue with showing duplicate accounts! What worked for me was contacting support directly (not ) to merge or delete the duplicate account. You can reach them through their help center at help.id.me. They were able to clean up my account within 24-48 hours, and then I could proceed with the verification. It's definitely frustrating, but don't give up on the online option just yet - the phone/mail route takes much longer. Good luck!

EDD base period confusion - laid off 4 days short of a year, will I qualify?

Recently found out I'm being laid off from my retail management position, but they've offered to keep me on temporarily to cover someone's maternity leave. Here's where I'm confused about EDD eligibility: My employment timeline: • Started: June 13, 2022 • Potential last day: June 9, 2023 (4 days short of a full year) I thought EDD required a full year of employment to qualify, but then I read something about a "base period" that confused me. Does anyone know if I need exactly 12 months, or is June 9th enough? Would staying until June 13th make any difference for my benefits eligibility? Also, my records show my previous benefit year ended September 24, 2022 (from a different job). Not sure if that affects anything now. This timing is frustrating since I'm literally missing the 1-year mark by 4 days! Any advice on EDD requirements would be super helpful.

My cousin works for EDD and says the biggest mistakes people make are: 1) Not filing as soon as they're laid off 2) Not doing the work search requirements properly 3) Making certification mistakes So even though you're working until June, you should file your claim the SAME DAY as your last day of work. Don't wait. And make sure you understand the work search requirements - you need to be looking for work and documenting it each week.

This is really helpful! I'll definitely file right away. For the work search requirements, do you know how many job applications they expect per week? And do I need to keep any specific documentation?

0 coins

They dont specify exactly how many but my cousin says at least 3 job contacts per week is safe. Keep records of where you applied, contact info, position, date, etc. EDD can audit you later and request proof of your job search.

Just wanted to add one more important point that might help you plan better - if you do decide to stay those extra few days until June 13th, it won't hurt your EDD eligibility at all since it's still a layoff situation. But consider that those 4 extra days of pay might actually push some earnings into Q2 2023, which could potentially help your benefit calculation if you end up filing a future claim down the road. The main thing is getting that layoff documentation in writing from HR, regardless of your exact end date. And remember, you can't file your claim until your last day of work, so if you stay until the 13th, that's when you'd file. Good luck with everything! Sounds like you'll qualify without any issues based on what others have explained about the base period requirements.

EDD Login Issues - Both Me and Relative Can't Access Accounts

Hey everyone, I'm having trouble logging into my account and I'm not sure what to do. My relative is also experiencing the same issue. Has anyone else run into this problem recently? Any advice on how to get back in would be really appreciated!

lmao watch them fix this right after my benefits run out 🙃

Oof, I felt that in my soul 💀

I'm going through the exact same thing right now! Been locked out for 3 days and it's driving me crazy. I tried calling but kept getting the busy signal. Has anyone had any luck with the online chat feature, or is that broken too? Really hoping they get this sorted out soon because I need to certify this week 😰

EDD appeal status changed from APPEAL to PAID - did I win my overpayment case?

Hey everyone, I'm in a weird limbo with my EDD appeal right now. I had my hearing about 8 days ago (was super nervous but it went okay I think). The judge said they'd mail the decision within 10 business days. Here's the thing - I just logged into my UI Online account and noticed the 2 weeks that had previously been labeled as "APPEAL" (these were weeks they claimed I had an overpayment of $4,200) now show as "PAID" status. They've been in appeal status for months! Does this status change from APPEAL to PAID likely mean my appeal was successful? I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much, but this seems like a good sign, right? Has anyone had this happen before receiving their official appeal decision? I'm checking my mailbox obsessively but nothing yet.

Update: I GOT THE LETTER TODAY! The appeal was approved!!! The judge ruled that I had provided sufficient evidence that I reported my income correctly and the overpayment was due to an EDD processing error! I'm so relieved I could cry. Thanks everyone for your input and support during this stressful time. For anyone going through appeals - document EVERYTHING and bring all your evidence to the hearing!

That's fantastic news! So happy for you! Now you can finally put this stressful chapter behind you. And great advice about documentation - that's absolutely key to winning these appeals.

YESSS!!! 🎉 See, I told you the PAID status was a good sign! Congratulations!!

Congratulations! This is such wonderful news and really gives hope to those of us who might face similar situations in the future. It's great that you kept us updated with the outcome. Your experience with the status changing from APPEAL to PAID before getting the official letter is really valuable information for this community. I'm sure many people will find your story helpful if they're going through their own appeals process. Enjoy that relief - you definitely earned it after all that stress!

Can I qualify for EDD if my job switches me from night to day shift when I have childcare issues?

My employer just announced they're eliminating the entire overnight shift I've been working for the past 15 months. Everyone is being forced to transfer to daytime hours starting next month. The problem is, I'm a single dad and I specifically took this overnight position because I care for my 3-year-old daughter during the day. My ex has her on weekends, but I'm responsible weekdays. I absolutely cannot afford daycare 5 days a week on my salary - we're talking $1,400+ monthly for decent care in my area. I've asked HR about keeping some night hours but they said the decision is final - night operations are completely shutting down. If I'm forced to quit because I physically cannot work these new hours due to childcare responsibilities, would I qualify for unemployment benefits? Has anyone dealt with something similar? I've never applied for unemployment before and I'm stressing about how I'll support us if I can't get benefits.

UPDATE: I had a follow-up meeting with HR today. They confirmed there are absolutely no exceptions to the shift change - all overnight positions are being eliminated company-wide. They did offer me a $2/hr raise to help with childcare costs, but that's nowhere near enough to cover $1,400+ monthly for daycare. I asked about part-time or flexible scheduling and was told those options aren't available either. I've documented everything from our conversation. I'm going to submit my resignation next week and apply for unemployment immediately. Based on everyone's advice, I'm going to be very detailed about the childcare hardship in my application. Thanks again for all the guidance.

You've done everything right so far. When you file your claim, make sure to check "voluntarily quit" and then provide this exact explanation about the shift change and childcare situation. Use clear, factual language without emotional content. Mention that you attempted to resolve the issue with your employer through multiple documented conversations. I'd suggest filing your claim online the same day as your last day of work, and be prepared for an eligibility interview within a few weeks. Good luck!

I'm really glad you documented everything with HR and tried all possible accommodations first - that's going to be crucial for your claim. The fact that they offered a $2/hr raise actually works in your favor because it shows they acknowledged the hardship but their "solution" was completely inadequate for the actual cost of childcare in your area. When you file, definitely emphasize that the $1,400+ monthly daycare cost would exceed what the raise could cover, making it financially impossible to continue working the new shift. EDD will likely calculate that a $2/hr raise (roughly $350/month full-time) against $1,400+ childcare costs clearly demonstrates the unreasonable burden. Make sure to keep copies of any written communication about the shift elimination and the inadequate accommodation offer. You've built a really strong case for "good cause" - the circumstances were beyond your control and you exhausted all reasonable options to preserve your employment.
