EDD direct deposit delayed - Labor Day holiday impact? Anyone else waiting?

I was supposed to get my EDD payment via direct deposit today but nothing has shown up in my account. I certified on Sunday like normal and it usually shows up by Tuesday morning. Could the Labor Day holiday be delaying things? My UI Online account shows 'paid' status but the money isn't in my bank yet. Getting worried since I have bills due tomorrow. Is anyone else experiencing delays with their direct deposit? When should I start panicking?

Hey everyone - just wanted to update that my payment just hit my account this morning (Wednesday) at around 5am. So exactly one day later than normal due to the holiday. Hope everyone else got theirs too!

Mine came through too! Thanks everyone for the help and reassurance. Definitely learned something new about how the system works.

Glad to see everyone's payments came through! This is such a common issue that happens every holiday - I've been dealing with EDD for over a year now and it catches me off guard every single time. You'd think they'd send out some kind of notice or at least put a banner on the website warning people about holiday delays. Would save everyone so much stress and anxiety! For future reference, I always check the federal holiday calendar at the beginning of each month so I know when to expect delays.

EDD payment showing 'paid' online but no direct deposit yet - anyone else?

I certified for my UI benefits Sunday night (11/24) and checked my EDD account this morning - it shows 'paid' status already which is good news. But it's already noon and nothing has hit my bank account yet. I normally see the money in my account by 10am on Mondays without fail. Has anyone else who certified yesterday experiencing the same delay with their direct deposit? Starting to get a little worried since I have rent due in a few days and was counting on this money being available today. Is this just a banking holiday delay that I'm not aware of or should I be concerned something's wrong with my claim? EDIT: Never mind, money just landed in my account at 10:40am today! Just a slight delay, everything's fine. Posting this update in case anyone else was worried.

Glad to hear your payment came through! For future reference for anyone reading this thread: EDD payments typically follow this timeline: 1. Certification processing: 24-48 hours after you certify 2. Status changes to "paid" in UI Online: Usually same day or next day after processing 3. Bank of America processes the transfer: 24 hours 4. Your bank processes the incoming deposit: 24-48 hours depending on your bank So from certification to deposit can take 2-4 days in normal circumstances. Holiday weekends, system maintenance, or high volume periods can add delays. As long as your status shows "paid" in the portal, the money is on its way!

This is super helpful information! Thank you for laying out the complete timeline. I've saved this explanation for future reference.

I'm new to the EDD system and just certified for the first time this past Sunday. Reading through everyone's experiences here is really reassuring! I was getting worried when I didn't see my deposit this morning, but it sounds like delays of a few hours are totally normal. My status shows "paid" so I guess I just need to be patient. Thanks everyone for sharing your timelines - it's so helpful to know what to expect as someone who's never dealt with this before!

Does anyone know if edd has a duty to notify claimants of interview for eligibility issues discovered at beginning of benefit year yet waited 18 mos after last payment . Subsequently they called and number was disconnected so they made determination to my acct for a staggering 25000$+ filed summary judgment to levy and garnish . I had no idea until I filed for ui recently. Just wondering if I can raise due process violation with superior court …

@Jennifer Bazzano That s'a really tough situation. Generally, EDD is supposed to provide proper notice for interviews and determinations, and due process violations can definitely be challenged in court. The 18-month delay between your last payment and their action does seem problematic. I d'strongly recommend consulting with an employment law attorney who handles EDD cases - many offer free consultations and can advise if you have grounds for a due process challenge. You might also want to contact your local legal aid society for help. Don t'ignore this - overpayment determinations can often be appealed or negotiated down, especially if proper procedures weren t'followed.

EDD claim stuck for 2+ months - zero activity despite supervisor promise to 'recompute'

I submitted my UI claim back in early January and the system seems to have completely forgotten about me. My online dashboard shows absolutely nothing - $0 paid, $0 balance, no weeks available to certify. It's like my claim doesn't even exist! I finally got through to someone after dozens of calls about 2 weeks ago, and the rep said he would 'make two weeks available for certification' but that 'supervisors needed to recompute' something first. Well, nothing has changed online, and I've sent multiple emails and made more phone calls with zero response. This is getting ridiculous! I've got bills stacking up and zero income for over 2 months now. How long are other people waiting these days? Is EDD always this dysfunctional or am I just especially unlucky?

anyone else notice edd is WAY worse in 2025 than before?? my first claim in 2023 was processed in like 10 days. now everyones waiting months??? what happened??

They've been cutting staff while claims are increasing. Classic government logic - reduce resources when demand goes up! I read somewhere they laid off a bunch of the temporary workers they hired during the pandemic, but claim volumes are rising again with all the tech layoffs and economic issues. So now we all suffer with worse service than ever.

I'm dealing with something very similar right now - filed in mid-January and my claim has been in limbo for 6 weeks. Same exact situation: $0 balance, no weeks to certify, dashboard looks completely empty. When I finally got through to someone last week, they told me there was a "pending issue" that required supervisor review but couldn't give me any timeline or specifics about what the issue actually was. What's really frustrating is that I have all my documentation ready - W2s, final paystub, separation letter - but there's nowhere to submit it because they haven't requested anything! I'm starting to think these "recompute" delays are just their way of managing the workload by making people wait indefinitely. I'm going to try some of the suggestions here, especially contacting my assembly member. At this point I've exhausted all the normal channels and need to escalate this somehow. The financial stress of waiting this long with zero income is really taking its toll.

EDD unemployment after severance - can I file when layoff payments end?

I just found out my company is restructuring and I'm being laid off in a weird way. They're keeping me on payroll with regular pay until the end of March 2025, then offering a severance package after that. I'm trying to plan ahead since I have mortgage payments and two kids in college. My questions: 1. Can I apply for UI benefits once my regular paychecks stop in March, or do I have to wait until after I receive the severance package? 2. Will the severance amount reduce my weekly benefit amount or just delay when I can start collecting? 3. Does it matter if I accept the severance as a lump sum or spread out payments? I've never been on unemployment before and I'm honestly confused about the timing here. Any advice would be really appreciated!

To clarify a few points based on the discussion: 1. You can and should file for UI immediately after your regular paychecks end in March 2025. 2. How your severance affects your benefits depends on: - How your employer classifies and reports it - Whether it's a lump sum or installments - The specific language in your severance agreement 3. When you file, you'll need to report the severance package. Be prepared to provide your severance agreement documentation if requested. 4. Most importantly, be completely truthful in your application and certification. Misreporting, even accidentally, can lead to overpayment demands and penalties. Given the complexity of your situation, speaking directly with an EDD representative is your best course of action.

Thank you so much for this clear summary! I'm going to ask HR for the exact wording of how the severance will be classified before I file. And I'll definitely be honest about everything - not worth the risk of penalties down the road.

Good advice from everyone here! I'd also suggest documenting everything - keep copies of your layoff notice, severance agreement, and any communications with HR about the timeline. When you do file your UI claim, having all this paperwork ready will make the process smoother. One thing I learned from my own experience: if your severance is spread over multiple weeks, you might want to ask your HR department exactly how they'll be reporting those payments to EDD. Some companies report it as "wages" which can reduce your weekly benefits, while others report it as "severance pay" which has different treatment. Also, don't stress too much about the complexity - EDD deals with severance situations all the time. As long as you're honest and provide all the required documentation, they'll figure out how to handle your specific case. Just make sure to report everything when you certify for benefits!
