PFL to SDI transition nightmare: Overpayment form delay holding up my extension. Help!

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with my PFL and SDI benefits. I called last week to request an overpayment form, but I still haven't received it. The problem is, SDI won't process my extension until PFL stops and I submit this overpayment form. On top of that, I'm worried about the communication between PFL and SDI regarding my status change. Has anyone else dealt with this kind of delay? Any advice on how to speed things up?

Ugh, bureaucracy at its finest 🙄 I've been there, friend. Have you tried calling them again? Sometimes you gotta be persistent to get results.

Yeah, I've been trying to get through but the hold times are insane. It's like they don't want us to actually talk to anyone!

Pro tip: call right when they open. You might have a better chance of getting through before the lines get jammed.

lol good luck with that. i swear they have like 2 people working the phones 🤡

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work? How long did you have to wait?

It worked for me! I waited about an hour, but I was able to do other stuff while the service was on hold. When an agent picked up, my phone rang and I was connected.

20 bucks tho? Thats kinda steep just to talk to someone who should be available for free 😒

I get it, but for me, it was worth it to finally get my issue resolved. Time is money, ya know?

Here's what you need to do: 1. Document everything. Keep a log of all your calls, who you spoke to, and what was said. 2. Send a written request for the overpayment form via certified mail. This creates a paper trail. 3. Contact your local state representative's office. They often have liaisons who can help cut through red tape. 4. File a formal complaint with the department if the delay continues. 5. Consider reaching out to PFL and SDI separately to ensure they're communicating properly about your case. Remember, persistence is key. Don't let them give you the runaround!

Wow, thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'll definitely start implementing these steps right away.

This is solid gold advice right here 💯 Especially the part about contacting your state rep. They can work miracles sometimes!

Quick question - did you check your spam folder? Sometimes important emails from gov agencies end up there. Just a thought!

Good idea, but I just checked and nothing there. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Not to be that guy, but have you tried going to their office in person? Sometimes face-to-face interaction can speed things up.

This! I had a similar issue and going in person was the only thing that worked. Bring all your paperwork with you!

idk man, last time i went to the office the line was out the door and i waited 4 hours just to be told to check the website 🙃

Oof, dealing with PFL and SDI at the same time sounds like a nightmare. Sending good vibes your way, OP! 🙏

I've been through this exact situation! The key is to be super persistent and try multiple channels at once. While you're waiting for the overpayment form, I'd suggest calling both PFL and SDI to make sure they have each other's contact info and are aware of your transition timeline. Also, ask for a supervisor when you do get through - they sometimes have more power to expedite things. In the meantime, keep detailed records of every interaction and consider filing a formal complaint if it drags on much longer. The system is frustrating but you'll get through it! 💪
