PFL baby bonding claim stuck in 'pending processing' limbo - typical wait times?
I submitted my baby bonding PFL claim 17 days ago and it's still showing 'pending processing' when I check online. This is my first time applying for baby bonding leave (my daughter was born 3 weeks ago) and I'm getting anxious about when the payments might start. My SDI pregnancy disability benefits ended last week, so I'm in that gap with no income coming in. How long does the 'pending processing' status typically last? My HR department told me 7-10 business days but it's been longer than that already. I uploaded all my documents including my daughter's birth certificate through the online portal. Should I be concerned that something is wrong with my application? Anyone with recent baby bonding claim experience who can tell me what to expect?

•Thanks! Did you have to call them at all or did it just automatically update? I'm nervous about bills coming due soon.

The processing times for baby bonding claims have been much longer in 2025 than usual. I submitted my claim in January and it took almost 4 weeks to process even though all my documents were in order. The EDD website says 14 days, but that's definitely not accurate right now. One thing to check - did you submit your claim on the day after your pregnancy disability ended or was there a gap? If there was any gap between SDI ending and PFL starting, that could cause additional delays. Also, make sure you completed the DE2508 form correctly, especially the dates section. Any discrepancies between your last SDI payment date and your PFL start date can flag your claim for manual review, which adds time.

•I submitted it the same day my SDI claim ended, so there shouldn't be a gap. I triple-checked the DE2508 form before submitting. So frustrating that their website says 14 days when it's clearly taking much longer for everyone!

I HATE that they call it "pending processing" because it tells you NOTHING about what's actually happening!!! My claim sat like that for 6 weeks in November and when I finally got through to someone they said they were "waiting for employer verification" but had never actually sent anything to my employer!!! The whole system is designed to make you give up and not get your benefits. My advice: call them EVERY DAY until someone fixes it. You paid into this system, you deserve your benefits!!!!!

•This is EXACTLY what happened to me too!! My claim was stuck for over a month because they were "waiting for verification" but never actually requested it from my company. The left hand doesn't know what the right is doing over there.

Just had my baby in January and went through this whole thing. For me it was pending for 24 days then suddenly changed to paid. Just keep checking your account. also make sure all ur documents show as received in the portal some people have issues with that too. congrats on ur baby btw!

If you're anxious about the wait (and who wouldn't be with bills due!), I'd recommend trying to get through to a representative. The standard processing time should be 14 days, but with the current backlog, many claims are taking 3-5 weeks as others have mentioned. A few things that could help: 1. Check if all your documents show as "received" in the EDD portal 2. Verify that your employer completed their portion properly 3. Make sure there are no date mismatches between your SDI end and PFL start If you need to reach EDD by phone, I had success using a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) after trying to call on my own for days. They basically hold your place in line and call you when they have an agent. Saved me hours of hold music with my newborn screaming in the background! They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM?si=6N1iCQ3a8Cdb2Ay5 Either way, don't worry that your claim is lost - the system is just incredibly slow right now.

•Thank you for the detailed response! I just checked and all my documents do show as "received" in the portal. I didn't know about that Claimyr service - that might be worth trying because I've been calling the regular number and can never get through.

•i used claimyr too when my disability was taking forever to process. it worked but i had to pay like $20 or something. still worth it cause i got through in like 30 mins instead of calling for days

Just wanted to say I'm going through the exact same thing right now with my baby bonding claim! It's been pending for 22 days and I'm stressing out about bills too. This thread is making me feel a little better knowing it's just slow for everyone and not something wrong with my specific claim. Has your status changed at all since you posted?

•No change yet - still showing pending processing. I'm going to try calling them tomorrow morning. I'll update here if anything changes!

When I did my baby bonding last year, I learned that many EDD agents don't actually understand the transition from pregnancy disability to PFL bonding time. I had to call THREE times before finding someone who knew how to properly process the claim. One thing that helped me was having ALL the following info ready when I called: 1. My SDI claim number 2. My PFL claim number (different numbers!) 3. Exact date my SDI ended 4. My baby's birth certificate info 5. My employer's contact info Sometimes they just need to press a button on their end to push it through. Good luck!

UPDATE: My claim was just approved! It took exactly 23 days from submission to approval. I did end up using that Claimyr service to get through to EDD yesterday. The rep I spoke with said there was nothing wrong with my claim, it was just in the queue waiting to be processed due to high volume. She did mention that having my employer verify the info quickly helped (my HR department is pretty on top of things). So for anyone else waiting - hang in there! The system is just overwhelmed right now.

Congrats on your baby and glad to hear your claim finally went through! I'm a new parent myself and just submitted my PFL baby bonding claim last week. Reading through all these experiences is both reassuring and nerve-wracking - it sounds like the 3-4 week wait is pretty standard right now despite what their website says. One question for anyone who's been through this recently - did you get any kind of confirmation or notification when your status changed from pending to approved, or do you just have to keep checking the portal daily? I'm trying to figure out if I should set up some kind of daily reminder to check or if they'll actually let me know when something changes. Also @Malik Jackson thanks for mentioning the Claimyr service - I hadn't heard of that before but might be worth trying if mine gets stuck too long. The regular EDD phone line seems impossible to get through on.
