EDD Baby Bonding application disappeared after Disability ended - no updates for 3 weeks
Hi everyone! I'm getting really stressed out about my PFL benefits. My disability insurance for pregnancy ended on 3/7/2025, and I submitted my baby bonding application right away. The EDD confirmation said they should receive it by 3/21, but it's been over 3 weeks now and absolutely NOTHING has happened. No updates, no emails, no letters, and my online account doesn't show any baby bonding claim at all! I've tried calling every day this week (like 20+ times) but can't get through to anyone. I'm starting to panic because I have no income right now. Should I just submit another application online? Will that mess things up if they're already processing my first one somewhere in their system? Has anyone dealt with this transition gap before?

Don't submit another application yet! That might flag your account for fraud investigation and delay things even more. The transition from pregnancy disability to PFL baby bonding is often glitchy in their system. Your best bet is to keep calling the main PFL number (855-342-5465) first thing in the morning right when they open. Also, double-check your UI Online account to make sure you're looking in the right section - sometimes baby bonding claims don't show up in the same area as disability.

•Thanks for the advice. I've been checking both sections of my UI Online account and there's nothing about baby bonding in either one. It's like my application vanished into thin air! I'll keep trying the morning calls, but I'm getting desperate as the bills are piling up.

•5 WEEKS?! I can't wait that long without income. Did you do anything special to finally get it processed? Or did it just randomly appear one day?

I've been through this frustrating transition twice now. Here's what's likely happening: When you switch from SDI to PFL, your claim has to go through a manual review process where they verify your disability end date matches your PFL start date. This can take 3-4 weeks normally, but if there's ANY discrepancy in dates, it gets flagged for further review. I recommend: 1. Check if your doctor put the exact same end date on your disability release form as you put on your PFL application 2. Call the dedicated PFL technical support line at 833-978-2511 instead of the main line 3. Make sure your baby's birth certificate info is correctly entered Also, verify your identity documents are up to date in the system, as sometimes that's what causes the delay.

•Thank you so much for the detailed advice! I never received a dedicated PFL tech support number from EDD - just the main line that I can never get through on. I'll try calling that number tomorrow. Do you happen to know if they can check on paper applications over the phone? I mailed mine in rather than doing it online.

Sorry you're dealing with this! When I had my baby in 2024, I waited 6 weeks for my baby bonding to start after disability ended. It was a nightmare! My husband ended up having to ask his parents for a loan just to cover our mortgage. The worst part is how impossible it is to reach anyone at EDD to even find out what's happening with your claim!

•Oh no, that's awful! I'm a single mom so I don't have a partner's income to help out. I might have to ask my sister for a loan at this point. I just wish there was SOME way to find out if they even received my application.

After trying for weeks to get through to EDD about my missing baby bonding claim, I finally used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to an actual EDD agent in about 15 minutes. The guy on the phone was able to see that my paper application had been received but was sitting in a processing queue. He manually added notes to expedite it and my claim was active within 48 hours. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM?si=6N1iCQ3a8Cdb2Ay5 - definitely worth checking out if you're desperate to talk to someone at EDD.

•Is this legit? Seems sketchy that you have to pay a service just to talk to a government agency we already pay taxes for. Has anyone else tried this?

•At this point I'm willing to try anything if it means getting my claim processed. I'll check out that video - thanks for sharing!

The transition between SDI and PFL is tha WORST part of the entire maternity leave process!! My personal theory is that EDD does this on purpose to make fewer people apply for the full benefits they deserve. When I called after waiting 4 weeks they claimed they "never received" my paper application even though I sent it certified mail with tracking showing they signed for it!!! Had to reapply and wait ANOTHER 2 weeks.

•While there are certainly bureaucratic issues with EDD, I don't think there's an intentional delay policy. It's more likely understaffing and outdated systems. But you're right that sending everything certified mail with tracking is essential - everyone should do this for all EDD correspondence.

•Maybe not "intentional" policy but they sure don't seem motivated to fix a problem that's been happening for YEARS. My sister had the exact same issue in 2023!

UPDATE FOR EVERYONE: EDD just announced they're experiencing a processing backlog for PFL applications submitted in March 2025 due to a system upgrade. The current processing time is 4-6 weeks instead of the usual 2 weeks. This information isn't on their website yet, but I confirmed it with an EDD representative yesterday. They're advising claimants not to submit duplicate applications as this will further delay processing.

•Thank you SO MUCH for sharing this update! At least now I know it's not just my application that got lost. Still frustrating but it helps to understand what's happening. I wish EDD would communicate these things clearly instead of leaving everyone in the dark.

Quick update: I took the advice about using Claimyr to get through to EDD and it actually worked! The representative confirmed they received my paper application on 3/22 but it was stuck in the backlog mentioned above. She added notes to expedite it since I'm approaching week 4 with no income. She said I should see it appear in my online account within 5-7 business days. Fingers crossed this actually resolves things!

•Great news! This is exactly why getting through to an actual representative is so important - they can see things in the system that aren't visible in your online account and can often add notes to prioritize processing. Make sure to check your account daily and follow up if you don't see movement within the timeframe they promised.

•That's awesome to hear! Glad you were able to get some answers. The uncertainty is often the most stressful part.

I'm so sorry you're going through this stress! I just went through something similar last month. My baby bonding application also seemed to disappear after my disability ended, and I was panicking about having no income. After reading through all these comments, it sounds like the March 2025 system upgrade backlog is affecting a lot of us. One thing that helped me was documenting everything - I kept a log of every call attempt, confirmation numbers, and any correspondence. When I finally got through to someone, having all those details ready made the conversation much more productive. Also, if you haven't already, try calling right at 8 AM when they open - I had better luck getting through then. The waiting is absolutely awful when you have bills to pay, but it sounds like your application is in the system and just stuck in processing. Hang in there!
