PFL Bonding Time: What to say when calling about my letter?
Hey everyone, I just got a letter about paid family leave and I need to call them to get it sorted out. Anyone have experience with this? What should I say when I get someone on the phone? I'm planning to ask for bonding time with my new baby.

Congrats on the new addition! π When you call, make sure you have all your ducks in a row. Here's what I'd recommend: β’ Tell them right off the bat you're calling about bonding time for paid family leave β’ Have the exact dates you want to take leave ready β’ Be prepared to confirm your employment status β’ Mention any paperwork you've already submitted or have ready to go Good luck and enjoy those baby snuggles! π

β’Thanks so much! This is super helpful. Do you know if I need to have my employer involved in the call at all?

β’Nah, you shouldnt need your employer on the call. They'll probably just ask for some basic info about where you work. But having your boss's contact info handy might be good just in case!

β’I found a way to get through! There's this site called claimyr.com that has a calling tool. It dials the phone menu, stays on hold, and then connects you when a real person picks up. It costs $20 but totally worth it imo. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

β’I used it last month and it worked great. Saved me hours of hold time.

β’Idk seems kinda sketchy to pay for something that should be free π€

β’I get the skepticism, but honestly, my time is worth more than $20. Plus, I got my issue resolved in one call instead of trying for weeks. Just sharing what worked for me! π€·ββοΈ

make sure you know exactly how much time youre asking for. they might try to lowball you if youre not specific

Anyone know if the rules have changed recently? I heard something about new legislation but Im not sure if it affects bonding time.

β’I think there was a bill passed last year that extended the amount of time you can take, but I'm not 100% sure. Might be worth asking when you call!

β’Yeah, pretty sure it went from 6 weeks to 8 weeks for bonding time. But double check when u call cuz I might be mixing it up with something else lol

Pro tip: keep a notebook handy during the call and write down EVERYTHING. names, dates, claim numbers, etc. youll thank me later π

β’Preach! π We're so behind other countries when it comes to family leave. It's embarrassing.

β’For real. My cousin in Canada got a whole year off, fully paid. Meanwhile we're over here begging for a few weeks π€‘

Don't forget to ask about partial leave options! You might be able to work part-time and still get some benefits. Could help stretch out your time with the baby.

Anybody else notice how the hold music is always some weird jazz fusion? Like, who picked that? π·π€
