Need help applying for EDD family leave - can't get through on phone!
Hey everyone, I'm trying to apply for family leave through EDD. Has anyone gone through this process recently? I'm having trouble getting through on the phone and could use some advice.

Ugh, I feel your pain. I applied for family leave last month and it was a nightmare getting through to anyone. Kept getting busy signals or disconnected. Took me like a week of constant calling to finally talk to someone.

•Same here. The whole system is a joke. How are we supposed to get help when we cant even reach them?

•Damn, I guess I did get lucky. This is ridiculous tho, they need to hire more people or something

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

•Yeah, I was skeptical at first too, but I tried it and it actually worked. Got through to an agent in about 2 hours without having to sit on hold myself.

•I get it, but for me it was worth it after wasting days trying to get through. Time is money, ya know?

Here's what you need to know about applying for family leave through EDD: • First, make sure you're eligible. You need to have paid into State Disability Insurance (SDI) to qualify. • Gather all necessary documents: medical certification, proof of relationship to the family member you're caring for, etc. • Apply online if possible - it's faster than mail. • Be prepared for a wait. Processing can take 2-3 weeks. • If you need to call, try early in the morning or late afternoon. Midday is usually busiest. • Keep detailed records of all your communications with EDD. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

•Thank you so much! This is really helpful. Do you know if I need to tell my employer before I apply?

•Yes, you should notify your employer before applying. They'll need to provide some information to EDD. It's best to give them as much notice as possible.

•Great info! Just wanted to add that the online application can be glitchy sometimes. If you have issues, try using a different browser or clearing your cache.

Has anyone had luck with the online application? I've heard mixed things about whether its faster or if you should just keep trying to call.

•Online was a nightmare for me. Kept getting errors and ended up having to call anyway. YMMV I guess

Pro tip: if you do get through on the phone, ask for a direct number or extension for follow-up calls. Some agents will give you one and it can save you a ton of time later.

Anyone know if the rules have changed recently? I applied last year and it seems like the process might be different now

•They made some changes to the online system in January, but the basic eligibility requirements are still the same AFAIK
