Got PFL automatic payment notice - what to do to avoid overpayment?

Hey everyone, I just got a notice of automatic payment for PFL in the mail and I'm kinda freaking out. I wanna make sure I don't mess anything up or end up with an overpayment. Has anyone dealt with this before? What should I do? I'm thinking about calling them to follow up, but I'm not sure what to ask or how to prepare. Any advice would be super helpful!

Okay, take a deep breath. Here's what you need to do: • First, read that notice carefully. Like, really carefully. Look for any specific instructions or deadlines. • Get all your claim info together. You'll need your PFL claim number and any recent letters you've gotten from them. • When you call, be ready to ask: - What exactly do I need to do about this notice? - Do I need to send in any paperwork? - How can I make sure I don't get overpaid? • Be super clear when you talk to them. Tell them right away you're calling about the automatic payment notice for PFL and you need help figuring out what to do next. • After the call, make sure you do whatever they tell you to do. Send in forms, verify stuff, whatever it is. Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

Wish I had this list when I got my notice 😩 Would've saved me so much stress

Thank you so much! This is really helpful. I'm gonna get all my stuff together and make that call tomorrow. 🙏

ugh, dealing with PFL is such a headache. i swear they make it confusing on purpose 🙄

For real tho! It's like they speak a whole different language sometimes 🤣

Yep, welcome to bureaucracy 101. Where nothing makes sense and everything takes forever 🐌

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone without waiting forever. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work?

Yeah, it actually does! I was skeptical at first too, but I was desperate after being on hold for hours. It saved me so much time.

$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken 😡

I get it, but for me, it was worth it. My time is valuable too, and I couldn't afford to sit on hold all day.

Whatever you do, DOCUMENT EVERYTHING. Keep copies of all notices, write down who you talk to and when. Trust me, it'll save your butt if theres any issues later.

Has anyone else noticed that the PFL system seems even more messed up lately? I've been trying to sort out an issue for weeks now 😫

omg yes! i thought it was just me. its been a total nightmare

I heard they updated their computer system recently. Probably explains all the chaos 🤦‍♂️

Pro tip: if you can, try to get everything in writing. Email is your friend here. That way you have a paper trail if things go sideways.

That's a great idea, thanks! I'll definitely try to get as much as I can via email.

Anybody know if theres a way to check your PFL status online? Feels like that would make all of this so much easier

There is! Go to the EDD website and look for the 'Benefit Programs Online' section. You can check your claim status there.

OMG thank you! How did I not know about this? 🤯

Don't panic! I went through the same thing last month. The automatic payment notice basically means they're going to start sending you payments based on your claim, but you definitely want to make sure everything is correct first. Here's what worked for me: • Call them ASAP (early morning works best, like 8am) • Have your claim number ready • Ask them to walk through exactly what the automatic payments will cover • Make sure your bank info is correct if you're doing direct deposit • Ask if there's anything you need to report or update The key is being proactive about it. I caught an error in my claim amount by calling right away, which saved me from having to pay back an overpayment later. Better to spend 30 minutes on the phone now than deal with a mess later! You got this! 💪

This is exactly what I needed to hear! Thank you for breaking it down step by step. The part about catching errors early really resonates with me - I'd much rather deal with it now than have to pay money back later. Definitely calling first thing tomorrow morning! 📞
