EDD PFL payment date confusion - will funds hit card tonight or tomorrow?

I just transitioned from pregnancy disability to PFL for baby bonding and EDD's website is saying my first payment date is August 3 (that's today). I'm used to my disability payments hitting my BoA card around 9pm, but I'm not sure if PFL follows the same schedule? Does anyone know if PFL deposits work the same way as disability? Getting anxious because I've got some bills coming up and need to know exactly when the money will be available to use! TIA

PFL and disability payments work exactly the same way! If the EDD website shows August 3 as your payment date, it should be available on your card by 11:59pm tonight. Most people (myself included) see it hit their BoA card between 8-10pm, but occasionally it can be later. The good news is that once you're in the system, future payments tend to arrive on a regular schedule every two weeks. Are you getting the full 8 weeks of baby bonding?

Thanks for the info! Yes I'm taking the full 8 weeks. I'm just extra nervous because this is my first PFL payment after transitioning from disability. My last disability payment hit right at 9pm so I was hoping PFL would be similar. I'll keep checking my card tonight then!

mine always hit at DIFFERENT times so dont stress if its not exactly 9pm. sometimes it was 8:30pm sometimes 11pm!!! the edd computer system is so old and glitchy so nothing is consistent lolol. but if the website says august 3, you WILL get it today for sure.

This is 100% accurate. My deposits hit anywhere between 6pm-midnight during my PFL claim last year. The payment date on the website is accurate but the exact time varies. I used to obsessively check my BoA account every 15 minutes lol.

Does anyone know if the BofA card takes a day to process even after EDD releases the money? With my SDI, sometimes the website would say payment issued but I couldn't access it until the next morning. The EDD/BofA system is so confusing!!

No, once it hits your BoA card, the funds should be immediately available. There's sometimes a delay between when EDD processes the payment and when it hits the card (usually just hours), but once it's on the card, you can use it right away. PFL and SDI use the exact same payment system and card.

When I had my baby last year, my PFL payments ALWAYS came exactly at 10:15pm no matter what. Every two weeks, like clockwork. My disability was all over the place timing-wise, but PFL was super consistent. Maybe they process PFL payments in batches at specific times? Just sharing my experience!

That's weird because mine was literally the opposite! My SDI came consistently at 9pm but my PFL was random times. I wonder if different claim offices process them differently?

Dont worry - if the EDD website says payment date is Aug 3, the money WILL be available today. But when I was on maternity leave last fall I was having HUGE issues with my payments - they kept getting delayed and I had to call EDD constantly. I finally used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an actual human at EDD and they fixed everything right away. They have this demo video (https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM?si=6N1iCQ3a8Cdb2Ay5) that shows how it works. Honestly saved me so much stress during what was already a stressful time with a newborn!

I've heard of Claimyr! Haven't needed it yet since this is my first payment, but good to know it's there if I run into issues. Hopefully everything goes smoothly with my payments!!

Anybody else notice that their first PFL payment was for a different amount than what they were expecting? Mine was like $267 less than my disability payments were. I freaked out but then realized they take taxes out differently for PFL vs disability. Just a heads up since you're transitioning from disability to PFL.

Omg thank you for mentioning this!! I had no idea the tax withholding might be different. I'll keep an eye on the amount tonight. I wish EDD explained these things better in their materials.

Just to clarify - the tax withholding options are the same for both SDI and PFL, but if you didn't specify your withholding preferences when you applied for PFL, it defaults to 10% federal tax withholding with no state tax withholding. You can change your tax withholding preferences through your online account if needed. The benefit amount calculation itself should be identical between SDI and PFL.
