EDD PFL payment schedule confusion after pregnancy disability ended - when will next payment arrive?
I just transitioned from pregnancy disability to baby bonding PFL last month. My PFL payments started right when my disability ended (yay no gap!) but I'm super confused about the payment schedule now. I've only received payment for 11 days so far (covering from when my disability ended until yesterday). \n\nDoes anyone know if I'll keep getting payments every 2 weeks like clockwork now? Or is it some weird schedule based on when I first applied? I'm trying to budget for baby expenses and really need to know when that next deposit will hit my account. My rent is due on the 15th and I'm getting anxious!\n\nAlso, do they pay for weekends in the PFL calculation? My disability payments didn't include weekends, but I've heard PFL might be different?

Congrats on the baby! The PFL payments typically come every 2 weeks after your first payment. They'll send the money about 10-14 days after each certification period. So your next one should arrive in about 2 weeks from your first payment.

Thank you! That helps. So if my first payment came on April 2nd, I should expect the next one around April 16th? That would be perfect timing for my rent.

PFL DOES include weekends!! thats the difference with disability. you get paid for all 7 days of the week not just work days. check ur benefit calculator in ur online account, should show u exactly when next payment is coming

Omg that's awesome about the weekends! I didn't realize that was different from disability. I'll check my account but honestly the calculator thing confuses me so much.

To clarify what others have said, EDD PFL operates on a continuous calendar, meaning all 7 days of the week are counted and paid. Your payment schedule should be every two weeks from your first payment, but it can vary slightly (1-3 days) depending on EDD processing time.\n\nAfter your initial transition payment of 11 days, you should receive standard 14-day payments in your subsequent benefit periods. Each bi-weekly payment will be for exactly 14 days of benefits (unless you're approaching the end of your 8-week claim).\n\nThe EDD online portal should show your next payment date under the

This is super helpful, thank you! I just checked my portal and it doesn't show the next payment date yet. I guess that means it's still more than 10 days away. That's cutting it close for my rent payment, but at least now I know to plan accordingly.

My experience was TOTALLY different. After my transition from disability to PFL, my payments were completely irregular. First came after 9 days, then 16 days later, then 13 days after that. The EDD system is so broken!!!! I had to call them FIVE TIMES to fix issues with my claim. Each time they said something different!! One rep told me weekends count, another said they didn't. MAKE SURE YOU DOCUMENT EVERYTHING and don't trust what they say.

I understand your frustration, but I want to clarify that the official EDD policy is that PFL does pay for all 7 days of the week including weekends. If a representative told you otherwise, they were incorrect. Payment irregularities usually happen when there are certification issues or when the system flags something for review. For a standard claim without issues, the payment schedule should be regular and predictable.

I just went through this exact transition in February! So after your initial partial payment (the 11 days you mentioned), your next payment should come exactly 14 days after the end date of that first payment period. So if your first payment covered through April 5th, your next payment should arrive around April 19th (they process it on the 19th but it might take 1-3 days to hit your account depending on your bank).\n\nAlso, yes, PFL definitely pays for weekends unlike disability! That confused me too at first lol.

Thanks for sharing your experience! That makes more sense - so it's not necessarily 14 days from when I received the first payment, but 14 days from the end of the period the first payment covered. Crossing my fingers it comes in time for rent!

If you need to contact EDD to confirm your next payment date, I'd recommend using Claimyr (claimyr.com). I was in the same boat waiting for my PFL payment and couldn't get through on the regular line after trying for 3 days. Used their service and got connected to an EDD rep in 20 minutes who confirmed my payment date and even expedited it when I explained my rent situation. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM?si=6N1iCQ3a8Cdb2Ay5

Does this actually work?? I've been trying to reach EDD about my PFL payment for 2 weeks with no luck. Might try this if it really works.

Yes, it worked for me! Saved me from having to call 30+ times. The EDD rep I spoke with was super helpful once I actually got through to someone. They explained that my payment was delayed because of a system flag on my account that needed manual review.

Make sure you keep certifying properly every two weeks! This is super important. If you miss a certification period, your payments will definitely be delayed. I learned this the hard way 😭

Wait, I thought PFL didn't require bi-weekly certifications like unemployment? My understanding was that once approved, the payments just come automatically for the 8 weeks. Now I'm worried I missed something!

You're correct - standard PFL baby bonding claims do not require bi-weekly certifications like unemployment. Once your claim is established and approved, payments should be automatic throughout your 8-week benefit period. There may be some confusion with SDI (pregnancy disability) which sometimes requires additional documentation, or with PFL for caregiving which can require certification from a healthcare provider.

3 hours on hold?! That's insane. I really hope I don't have to deal with that. Did your payments come regularly after they fixed the system issue?

UPDATE: Just wanted to let everyone know that my payment actually came through today! It was exactly 14 days after the end date of my first partial payment period, just like many of you said. And yes, they did pay for the weekends too!\n\nThank you all for your help and advice. Such a relief to know I can plan for these payments every 2 weeks now. I can actually budget properly for the rest of my baby bonding time!

That's great news! I'm so glad it worked out and came in on schedule. It's such a relief when the system actually works like it's supposed to, isn't it? Enjoy your baby bonding time! 💜

So happy to hear your payment came through on schedule! This thread has been super helpful - I'm currently 7 months pregnant and planning to take both disability and PFL after my baby arrives. It's reassuring to know that the transition can be smooth and that PFL includes weekends. I'm definitely bookmarking this conversation for when I need to make the switch from disability to baby bonding. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences!

•That's so exciting that you're expecting! This thread really was helpful for me too when I was trying to figure out the whole system. One thing I'd recommend is to start familiarizing yourself with the EDD online portal early - it can be confusing at first but it's really useful for tracking your payments and claim status. Also, make sure you apply for PFL as soon as your disability period ends to avoid any gaps. Good luck with your pregnancy and future baby bonding time! 🍼

•Congratulations on your pregnancy! I'm currently going through the PFL process myself and this thread has been incredibly helpful. One tip I'd add is to keep detailed records of all your dates - when your disability starts/ends, when you apply for PFL, etc. It makes it so much easier to track everything and catch any potential issues early. Also, don't be afraid to call EDD if something seems off with your payments - even though the wait times can be brutal, it's worth it for peace of mind. Wishing you a smooth pregnancy and an easy transition when the time comes!
