EDD PFL payment schedule - when will next baby bonding payment arrive after first deposit?

My husband just received his first baby bonding PFL payment on April 24th (we have a 2-month-old). Super relieved it finally came through! But now I'm confused about when to expect the next payment. Is it exactly 14 days later regardless of weekends? Or does it follow some other schedule? Just trying to plan our monthly budget since I'm still on unpaid maternity leave from my job. Has anyone gone through the baby bonding payment cycle recently and can share how consistent the timing was between payments? Thanks in advance!

PFL payments generally come every two weeks (14 days) after your first payment, so he should expect the next one around May 8th. However, if that falls on a weekend, it might post to his account the Friday before or Monday after, depending on his bank's processing. The schedule stays pretty consistent throughout the entire claim period as long as he continues certifying on time.

Thank you! That's super helpful. Do you know if he needs to do anything specific to keep the payments coming, or is it automatic once approved? The EDD website is so confusing to navigate!

When my husband did baby boding last year the payments were all over the place! First one came on time but the second was 5 days late and the third came early??? EDD is so unpredictable lol

0 coins

Oh no, that's exactly what I'm worried about! Was there anything that caused the irregular timing or just EDD being EDD?

0 coins

For my baby bonding PFL they were actually really consistent - every 2 weeks like clockwork. BUT that was only after I cleared up an identity verification issue they never told me about. Is your husband getting paper checks or direct deposit? Direct deposit was WAY more consistent for me.

Not the OP but direct deposit was super inconsistent for me! My payments would randomly take 3-4 days to hit my account even after the EDD website showed

Unlike maternity leave disability (which has a waiting period), PFL baby bonding payments should come exactly 14 days apart. The caveat is that he must continue to certify every two weeks to maintain benefit eligibility. Make sure he's checking his UI Online account for any certification requirements or messages. Missed certifications can delay payments by weeks.\n\nFor reference: PFL benefits get processed on a biweekly schedule. If April 24th was his first payment date, then his next payment should process on May 8th, then May 22nd, and so on. If his claim was approved for the full 8 weeks of baby bonding, he should receive 4 payments total.

Thank you for the detailed info! He was told he'd get 8 weeks total, so 4 payments makes sense. I'll make sure he checks for those certification requirements - we definitely don't want any delays!

I'M GOING THROUGH THIS EXACT THING RIGHT NOW!!!!! My first payment came on time but my second payment is now 6 DAYS LATE and I can't get through to anyone at EDD!!! I've called like 50 times and keep getting disconnected or told the queue is full. This is so frustrating when you're trying to pay bills with a newborn at home!

I was in the same boat last month and finally got through to EDD using Claimyr. It's a service that connects you with an EDD agent without the endless calling. Costs money but saved me days of frustration. Their website claimyr.com has a video demo showing how it works: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM?si=6N1iCQ3a8Cdb2Ay5. The agent told me my payment was delayed because my certification had a \

OMG thank you!! I'll try this tomorrow - at this point I'm desperate enough to try anything to get this resolved!

My baby bonging benefits came every other Thursday. So if ur husband got paid on a Wednesday (April 24) that seems strange? Maybe check his account to make sure hes getting the full amount hes supposed to. My sister got her's split into weird payment chunks because of some calculation issue.

PFL payments don't always follow the same weekly pattern for everyone. It depends on when your claim was processed and approved. The biweekly cycle starts from your first payment date, not a fixed calendar schedule across all claimants. That's why some people get paid on Tuesdays, others on Thursdays, etc.

wait is your husband on baby bonding or pregnancy disability? they work differently! my wife got pregnancy disability first (before birth and 6 weeks after) which paid every two weeks, then baby bonding (additional 8 weeks) which also paid every two weeks but on a different schedule. so confusing!

He's definitely on baby bonding PFL - I handled the pregnancy disability part for myself already (that was its own nightmare lol). But good point about them being on different schedules!

One additional important thing: make sure your husband enables email and text notifications in his UI Online account. That way he'll be immediately notified about certification requirements or any issues with his claim. Also, the EDD payment schedule can be affected by holidays. If a processing date falls on a holiday, the payment may be delayed by 1-2 business days.

Great tip! I'll have him check those notification settings right now. There is a holiday coming up (Memorial Day) so that's good to be aware of too.

My husband's baby bonding payments in 2025 have been coming exactly 14 days apart. He got his latest deposit yesterday actually! The key thing that worked for us was making sure he certified for the benefits the moment the certification period opened up (you can see this date in the UI Online portal). If we waited even a couple days to certify, it seemed to push the payment timing back.

This!!!!! Certify RIGHT AWAY when it lets you or else the whole schedule gets messed up. I learned this the hard way lol

Just wanted to add my recent experience - my wife and I both took baby bonding PFL this year for our twins (born in February). Her payments have been like clockwork every 14 days, but mine got delayed by almost a week on the second payment because I forgot to update my mailing address after we moved. Even though we have direct deposit, apparently they still needed the correct address on file. So make sure all your contact info is current in the UI Online system! Also, pro tip: screenshot your payment dates so you can track the pattern and know exactly when to expect each one.

Congratulations on your new baby! I just went through the baby bonding PFL process earlier this year and wanted to share what worked for me. The payments should come every 14 days from your first payment date, so May 8th sounds right for your next one. The most important thing is to certify immediately when the certification period opens - I set a phone reminder for this because even a day or two delay can mess up your payment schedule. Also, double-check that your husband has direct deposit set up correctly and that all his contact info is current in the UI Online portal. I had one payment delayed because my bank info wasn't updated properly. Keep screenshots of each payment date so you can track the pattern and plan your budget accordingly. The good news is once you get into the rhythm, it's pretty predictable!

Thank you so much for all the helpful tips! I'm definitely going to have my husband set up those phone reminders for certification - that seems to be the key thing everyone is mentioning. The screenshot idea is brilliant too, I hadn't thought of that but it would really help with budgeting. Did you find the UI Online portal easy to navigate for tracking everything? I'm worried about missing something important since this is all new to us!

I'm currently going through baby bonding PFL right now and can confirm the 14-day schedule is pretty accurate! My first payment came on April 10th and the second arrived exactly 14 days later on April 24th. The key things that have helped me stay on track: 1) Set up direct deposit if you haven't already - it's way more reliable than paper checks, 2) Enable all notifications in UI Online so you get alerts about certification deadlines, and 3) Certify the moment your certification period opens (usually Sunday night). I also keep a simple calendar note with expected payment dates so there are no surprises. One thing to watch out for - if there's ever a delay, check your UI Online inbox for messages. Sometimes EDD needs additional documentation or has questions that can hold up payments. Good luck with your new baby!

This is such helpful confirmation! I'm feeling much more confident about the timing now. Quick question - when you say "certify the moment your certification period opens (usually Sunday night)" - does that mean every Sunday night or just specific Sundays? I want to make sure my husband doesn't miss any deadlines since we're still figuring out this whole system. Also, did you notice any differences in payment timing around holidays or weekends?

Just wanted to share my recent experience to help ease your worries! I'm currently on baby bonding PFL for my 3-month-old and the payments have been very consistent - every 14 days like clockwork. My first payment was March 15th, then March 29th, April 12th, and just got my fourth (and final) payment on April 26th. The key things that kept everything smooth: always certify within 24 hours of the certification period opening, keep your UI Online account info updated, and definitely use direct deposit if possible. I also recommend checking your UI Online inbox regularly for any messages from EDD - they sometimes request additional info that can delay payments if you don't respond quickly. One heads up: my third payment was delayed by 2 days due to a bank holiday, but it did come through. Overall the process was much more predictable than I expected! Congrats on your new baby and don't stress too much - sounds like your husband is already on the right track with that first payment coming through.

This is so reassuring to hear from someone who just completed the full cycle! It's really helpful to see the actual dates laid out like that - it gives me a much clearer picture of what to expect. I'm definitely going to make sure my husband sets up direct deposit if he hasn't already, and I love the idea of checking the UI Online inbox regularly. That's something I wouldn't have thought to do proactively. Thanks for mentioning the bank holiday delay too - good to know that can happen but the payment still comes through. Congratulations on completing your baby bonding leave, and thanks for taking the time to share your experience with us new parents! 🙏

Hey Diego! Congrats on your new baby! 🎉 I just went through this exact same situation a few months ago when my daughter was born. Your husband should expect his next payment around May 8th (14 days after April 24th), and then every 14 days after that. The timing has been really consistent for me - I got all 4 payments exactly 2 weeks apart. Just make sure he keeps up with the biweekly certifications in his UI Online account - that's super important! I set calendar reminders for myself because missing even one certification can mess up the whole payment schedule. Also, if you haven't already, definitely set up direct deposit if possible. It's way more reliable than waiting for paper checks. The whole process was actually much smoother than I expected after reading all the horror stories online. You're doing great navigating this system with a 2-month-old - it's a lot to keep track of! Feel free to ask if you have any other questions about the process.

Thank you so much Olivia! This is exactly the kind of reassurance I needed to hear from someone who just went through this process recently. Setting up calendar reminders for the certifications is such a smart idea - I'm definitely going to suggest that to my husband right away. It's good to know the timing really can be that consistent when everything goes smoothly. I feel much more confident about planning our budget now knowing what to expect. Thanks for being so welcoming and helpful to us newcomers to this whole system! 😊

As a new parent myself who just started the PFL baby bonding process, this thread has been incredibly helpful! My wife and I are expecting our first payment next week and I was so confused about the timing. Reading everyone's experiences really puts my mind at ease - it sounds like as long as we stay on top of the certifications and keep our account info updated, the 14-day schedule should be pretty reliable. I'm definitely going to set up those calendar reminders that several people mentioned. Thanks to everyone for sharing your real experiences rather than just pointing to the confusing EDD website! It's so much better to hear from actual parents who've been through this process recently.

Welcome to the PFL journey! It's so nice to connect with other new parents going through this process. I'm actually brand new to this community too - my partner and I just had our baby last month and are still figuring out all the ins and outs of the California PFL system. This thread has been such a lifesaver! I was feeling so overwhelmed by all the EDD paperwork and deadlines, but seeing everyone's real experiences makes it feel much more manageable. The calendar reminder tip is genius - I'm setting those up right now. Wishing you and your wife all the best with your first payment next week! Hopefully we can all support each other through this process as new parents. 👶

Hi everyone! I'm new to this community and currently navigating my first PFL baby bonding claim for our 6-week-old. This thread has been SO helpful - thank you all for sharing your real experiences! I wanted to add that I just called EDD this morning (after reading some tips here about best times to call) and the representative confirmed that the 14-day payment schedule is standard, BUT she emphasized that any missed or late certifications can throw off the entire timeline. She also mentioned that if you ever see "pending" status for more than 3 business days after your expected payment date, that's when you should definitely call in to check for any issues. One thing I learned the hard way - make sure to screenshot your certification confirmation page each time you submit it. I had a technical glitch last week where the page didn't load properly after I submitted, and having that screenshot helped when I had to call EDD to verify it went through. Thanks again to everyone sharing their experiences - it really helps us new parents feel less alone in this process! 🙏

Thank you so much for calling EDD and sharing what you learned! The tip about screenshotting the certification confirmation page is brilliant - I would never have thought of that but it makes total sense given how glitchy government websites can be. I'm definitely going to start doing that right away. It's also really helpful to know that "pending" status for more than 3 business days is the threshold for when to call - gives me a clear guideline instead of just worrying and wondering. As another newcomer to this community and the PFL process, I really appreciate you taking the time to share these practical tips. It's amazing how much we can help each other navigate this system! Congratulations on your new baby and thanks for being so generous with the information you gathered. 💙

Hi Diego! As a new parent who just started my PFL baby bonding claim last month, I wanted to share what I've learned so far. My first payment came through on April 15th and my second arrived exactly 14 days later on April 29th - right on schedule! The key things that have kept everything smooth for me: 1) I set up direct deposit immediately (way more reliable than checks), 2) I enabled all email/text notifications in my UI Online account, and 3) I certify within hours of the certification period opening (usually Sunday evenings). One tip that's been super helpful - I created a simple spreadsheet tracking my expected payment dates so I can plan our budget while my wife is also on unpaid leave. It's been surprisingly consistent once I got into the routine! The certification reminders are crucial though - I almost missed one because I was sleep-deprived from night feedings. Good luck with your upcoming payments and congrats on your little one! This community has been such a great resource for navigating the PFL system. 👶

Hi Issac! Thank you for sharing your experience - it's so helpful to hear from someone who's actively going through this right now! The spreadsheet idea for tracking payment dates is fantastic - I'm definitely going to set that up this weekend. It sounds like you've really figured out the system well. I'm curious about the certification timing - when you say "usually Sunday evenings," is that every other Sunday or does it vary? I want to make sure I understand the pattern correctly so we don't miss anything. Also, I totally relate to the sleep-deprivation concern - it's so easy to forget important things when you're running on no sleep with a newborn! Thanks for taking the time to share these practical tips, and congratulations on your little one too! This community really is amazing for helping new parents navigate all of this. 😊

Hi Diego! Welcome to the community and congratulations on your new baby! 🎉 I'm also a newcomer here - just started my own PFL baby bonding journey a few weeks ago. Reading through all these responses has been incredibly reassuring! I was so anxious about the payment timing too, but it sounds like the 14-day schedule really is pretty reliable when everything goes smoothly. Based on what everyone is sharing, it looks like May 8th should be your next payment date. I'm definitely taking notes on all the tips here - especially about certifying immediately when the period opens and setting up those calendar reminders. The sleep deprivation is real with a newborn, so having those automated reminders seems crucial! One question for the group - has anyone had experience with what happens if you need to contact EDD about a delayed payment? I want to be prepared just in case. Thanks again to everyone for being so welcoming and helpful to us new parents figuring this all out! This community seems amazing. 💙

Hi Connor! Welcome to the community and congrats on your new little one too! 🎉 It's so nice to connect with other new parents going through this PFL process at the same time. I'm also pretty new here but have already learned so much from everyone's shared experiences. Regarding your question about contacting EDD for delayed payments - from what I've read in this thread, it sounds like a few people have had success using that Claimyr service that @Mateo Perez mentioned earlier, especially when you can t'get through on the regular EDD phone lines. The consensus seems to be that if your payment shows pending "for" more than 3 business days past the expected date, that s'when you should definitely reach out. I m'definitely following all the same advice everyone s'sharing - setting up those certification reminders, screenshotting confirmations, and keeping that payment tracking spreadsheet. It s'amazing how much practical wisdom this community has! Thanks for asking such a great question that we re'all probably wondering about. Looking forward to navigating this journey alongside you! 💙

Hi Diego! Congratulations on your new baby! 🎉 I'm also new to this community and just starting my own PFL baby bonding claim journey - our little one is 5 weeks old and I'm hoping to get my first payment soon. Reading through all these responses has been incredibly helpful and reassuring! It sounds like the 14-day payment cycle is pretty consistent once you get into the rhythm. Based on everyone's experiences, May 8th definitely seems like the right expectation for your husband's next payment. I'm taking notes on all the great tips shared here - especially about certifying immediately when the period opens (seems like that Sunday evening timing is crucial), setting up direct deposit if you haven't already, and keeping screenshot records of certifications. The calendar reminder idea is genius too - with newborn sleep deprivation, automated reminders seem essential! One thing I found helpful was creating a simple note in my phone with the expected payment dates based on the 14-day cycle, just like some others mentioned. It really helps with budgeting when you're both on leave. Thanks to everyone for being so welcoming and sharing real experiences rather than just pointing to confusing government websites! This community is such a valuable resource for new parents navigating the PFL system. Looking forward to learning from everyone as we all go through this process together! 💙

Hi CosmicCadet! Welcome to the community and congratulations on your little one too! 🎉 It's so wonderful to connect with other new parents who are just starting this PFL journey. Your 5-week-old is right around the same age as so many of ours here - there's definitely something comforting about going through this process alongside others at the same stage! I love that you're already being so proactive about taking notes and preparing. The phone note idea for tracking expected payment dates is really smart - I'm going to steal that tip! It's amazing how much planning and organization becomes necessary when you're dealing with government systems while sleep-deprived. From everything I've read in this thread, it sounds like you're setting yourself up for success by getting direct deposit ready and understanding the certification timing upfront. Hopefully your first payment comes through smoothly and you can join the "every 14 days like clockwork" group that several people here have described! Thanks for adding your voice to this conversation - the more new parents we have sharing experiences and tips, the better we can all navigate this system together. Wishing you the best with your upcoming first payment! 💙

Hi Diego! Welcome to the community and congratulations on your new baby! 🎉 I'm also a newcomer here - just joined recently after starting my own PFL baby bonding claim for our 7-week-old daughter. Reading through everyone's experiences has been so incredibly helpful and reassuring! It sounds like your husband should definitely expect his next payment around May 8th based on that April 24th first payment date. The 14-day cycle seems to be pretty consistent for most people once you get into the routine. I'm definitely taking notes on all the amazing tips shared here - the certification reminders, direct deposit setup, screenshotting confirmations, and keeping a payment tracking system all sound crucial. The sleep deprivation with a newborn is so real, so having those automated systems in place seems essential to avoid any missed deadlines! One thing I've learned from lurking in other PFL discussions is to also double-check that all your contact information is current in the UI Online portal - apparently even small things like an outdated address can cause delays even with direct deposit. Thanks to everyone for being so welcoming and sharing real, practical experiences rather than just pointing to confusing government websites! This community is such a valuable resource for new parents trying to navigate the EDD system. Looking forward to learning from all of you as we go through this process together! 💙

Hi GalacticGuru! Welcome to the community and congratulations on your little one! 🎉 It's so great to connect with other new parents who are navigating this PFL process at the same time. Your daughter is just a bit older than some of the other babies mentioned here - it's amazing how many of us are going through this journey together right now! That's such a great point about double-checking contact information in the UI Online portal. I wouldn't have thought that an outdated address could cause issues with direct deposit, but it makes total sense that EDD would want everything to match up perfectly. I'm definitely going to have my husband verify all of that information this weekend. I'm feeling so much more confident about the whole process after reading everyone's experiences in this thread. It's incredible how much practical wisdom this community has compared to trying to decipher the official EDD website! The combination of setting up direct deposit, enabling notifications, certifying immediately when the period opens, and keeping good records seems to be the winning formula. Thanks for adding your voice and tips to this conversation - the more new parents we have sharing real experiences, the better we can all support each other through this system. Wishing you smooth sailing with your PFL payments! 💙
